I finally got a chance to do some reconnoitering. I went to the Ibis and located the place beside the restaurant. I didn't go in as I was determined to find the "downstairs" place down the street. I walked past it or the placed marked on the map, several times but was not able to identify a place to go "downstairs". Quite disappointing.

On a higher note, I think I may have found a place that I have not seen previously reported. I was coming from the walking mall near the West Electronics mart and a guy was handing out fliers for a massage place. One of my colleagues that speaks Chinese read the flier and gave a look that gave me the impression that it was not a straight up massage place. I am going to try to get down there tomorrow night and see what happens.

I do not speak Chinese so that increases the degree of difficulty.

If anyone can help me locate the "downstairs" massage place near the Ibis, I would appreciate it.

Changan.

Following up a previous report citing Century KTV, I went looking for it on a Saturday night, and found that it had been renamed Changan nights. You can spot the logo from afar, and it's located on the corner of the lot.

Before I proceed, I should state that I am a total newbie to the monger scene in China, so I did not know what to expect. My research gave me reason to believe that FS could be had for 400 RMB, with 500-1000 for the room. I was a westerner with no Chinese stills, but I went in with a certain expectation of overpaying, because I really wanted to experience what a KTV was like. (YOLO!) On the other hand, I had my limits, so just to be safe, I left my credit card and bank card at the hotel and only took 2,000 RMB with me, as I thought that would be sufficient (boy was I wrong!

It was my first time visiting a KTV, so I entered hesitantly and followed a guard up to the third floor. I was immediately impressed by the palatial, classy atmosphere. A friendly young man was acting as a host to accommodate arriving guests and direct them to their private rooms. He seemed a little surprised to see a white guy in the establishment, but he was quite helpful and patient as I explicitly typed into my translator app what I was looking for. His enthusiastic response ensured that I was at the right place. On the way to the room, he led me down the halls, which were frequented by very young clientele and staff. All of the girls were dressed in fancy red prom-dresses and the service staff was dressed in black. The appearance of a westerner caused quite a stir among the staff, who had been apparently been boozing it up but I was treated like a celebrity, as they wanted to take selfies with me. The manager was a gentleman of about 45 years, and I worked out the prices and details with him. I told him that I only had 2,000 RMB and did not want to exceed that amount. After a couple of minutes it became very clear that there was almost zero English spoken at this establishment, but with my translator app, I was able to clarify my intentions. (FYI -the terms gao tai and ping tai, didn't seem to resonate).

They sat me on the couch, in what can only be described as the most regal 'entertainment' facility that I've ever visited with really fine furniture. Then they began escorting a line-up of girls for me to approve. Most were about a 6 on the 10 point scale, and a little chubbier than you would expect from Asian girls (they later said it was due to all the beer drinking in the establishment). But the first girl they brought in spoke passable English, so I selected her and a 2nd girl. The scene that followed was very confusing, as the KTV hostess arrived (who was about an 8 or 9 on the scale, but I don't think was available for service), followed by three or four other black-attire staff, one of which was really wasted. They ordered two 12 packs of beer on my tab, which all of them proceeded to drink (there were about 7 of us in the room!) and play drinking games such as rock, paper, scissor (they love this game) and a dice game called "big or small. " In this game, all players declare 'big' (rolls 4-6) or 'small' (rolls 1-3) before one player rolls the die. Drinks are assigned to whomever guessed incorrectly. Other Anyone who I really would not have been able to navigate this without the translation abilities of my new lady friend. After getting a good buzz on, we sang a couple of karaoke tunes.

While it didn't seem appropriate that staff were inflating my bill by drinking by alcohol, I did truly enjoy the party atmosphere that the staff brought to the room. However, the whole time I noticed that the girls were making small requests, like buying cigarettes and candy, to which I obliged. But without my approval, the black-attire staff starting bringing in appetizer plates and other foods. So, I was getting really nervous about them inflating the bill, so again I clarified with the manager my cash threshold. He said the room was $400.

I asked multiple times about paying for the room or the bill, but they didn't accommodate my request by feigning ignorance. I was very concerned about running out of cash.

I was getting touch-feely with the KTV girls, and I wanted to finish up before I ran out of cash, but I had no idea how to escalate to sex in this environment. The girls were tolerant of my wandering hands, but Do I just pull off her clothes? Ask her to join me in the bathroom? So after about 1. 5 hours, I asked the English speaking girl about going to 'another room. ' She seemed surprised that I knew what that meant, and sent the black-attire staff to buy a room key, saying that it would cost 150 RMB. Everyone was really drunk at this point, but the party atmosphere died down, my English speaking girl told me to pay the other girl 400, and the hostess 300, which I did, knowing that I was likely overpaying. However, it was clear that I had no leverage in any negotiations, as I spoke no Chinese and had to do any bargaining through this bar girls (not a very strong position for a monger to be in!

I again asked to pay for the room, but no one responded to my request. Then the girl led me out and down the hallway into a locker room with an attendant waiting. He gave me a locker key with a funny set of shiny golden shorts and shirt to put on. After changing, the girl led me to a plain but clean room with a bed. We undressed, and I bore witness to the most unruly case of Bush that I've ever encountered in my life! With armpit hair, too! I followed through, tolerating rehearsed cries of 'Oh, you so big, why you so big! But I was anxious to get this experience over with, at this point and finished up quickly. We went back to the locker room and got changed, whereupon I realized that we still hadn't discussed price. She was so drunk, that I thought she might forget the matter. Then, she proposed 1,000 RMB, which I know was way too much. After a few moment of heated negotiation (Fail: always agreed on price beforehand! We settled on 700 RMB, which was still too much. (Oh well, live and learn!

We returned to the room, where we were greeted by high fives from the black-attire staff who were still hanging out, enjoying my drinks and snacks. I told them I was ready to leave and the bill was delivered: 1,400 RMB, which I did not have. No problem, they said, credit cards. Whoops, we have a problem. They brought in more staff to discuss a solution, and after some discussion, which was very level-headed, and no one raised their voice or got angry (which could definitely have been a problem at a seedier establishment), a staff member finally agreed to take a cab to my hotel where I would deliver the remainder of the bill, which I did faithfully.

So overall, the total damage was: 300 for hostess, 400 for ping tai, 700 for gao tai, 1,400 for the room, beer, snacks, and 100 for the round-trip cab at the end of the night.

As Sir Humphrey would say (in the TV series "Yes, Minister") "very courageous".

Missing is your assessment: did you get value for money? (In your opinion, using your criteria, and your view of the worth of RMB, relative to your currency (back home).).

Speaking of KTV, I'm only going to be in Xian for Sat / Sun night next week, and was looking for a sure-thing KTV that could accommodate a solo foreigner with zero Chinese. Any recommendations?

TomInXian's report on Century KTV seemed very promising. Has anyone else been there?

I have been in Xi'an for a while. I am working with colleagues and rarely have time to myself.

I did some walking around myself. I don't find anything happening near my hotel.

I did take a stroll in the Jixiang area, West Jx street is as reported. The first street on to the right from Jx also has a few.

I tried talking to a few but I do not speak Chinese. Two gave the the "move along" sign. There were a group in a doorway that were giggling and looking away and then back again but I didn't work them much.

I did see something unusual today. I walked past a place the was well lit, very clean, very nicely decorated lobby, glass doors and had a sign in English "NSG Foot Massage".

The first time I walked by, around 6:30 PM, it looked to be open but I didn't see anyone inside. When I walked by again close to 8:00 PM I could see a line of 6 or 8 girls, all dressed the same. They were dressed nice, a little sexy, certainly not slutty, skirts and a little jacket over a shirt.

What is NSG Massage?

After many delays (due to contractual discussions) I have arrived in Xi'an.

The hotel was quite surprised that I arrived as they had lost my reservation and had no rooms available, except at a highly elevated price. LOL I did manage to work something out.

I am quite limited for the present as to my ability to explore as there are others from my company so dinner in required and there is much work to do. I will have time this weekend to start looking around.

The good news for me was the discovery that Xing Qing Lu is back. There are 3 places on the east side of the street, heading north from Hu Zhu Lu. Two offer only massage & HJ. If you are prepared to get down & dirty, the place nearest Hu Zhu Lu will make you happy.

I tried following the directions to find a FS place from previous posts. I was looking on the east side of Xingqing Rd just a bit north of Huzhu Rd. I tried the only place that wasn't selling restaurant equipment, next to the Post Bank. It had a flashing sign out front, but it ended up being a little motel (I think). When I went in and asked "quan tao?" the lady at the desk said "No. " I didn't see any other place around that area that looked at all promising, and I wasn't looking for a HJ, so I didn't try asking in any other place further north on Xingqing, which was probably a mistake.

I have RTFF, but so far mongering has been a bust for me here. I don't speak or read Chinese, so its tough going. I've got one more day. I'm going to try finding the place next to the Ibis hotel tomorrow. I'll report back then. BTW, anybody willing to help me figure out where I went wrong, I would really appreciate a PM.

Hope your visit to Xi'an went well. The trade has not closed up shop, but there just doesn't seem to be many people posting. I made that point a couple months ago when it seemed I was the only one on here.

I tried the place near Ibis, but I guess I gave the wrong password because I didn't find any action. I had heard from another brother that my favorite bathhouse was closed but upon further review, it is still in business. I have looked in many different places throughout the city for new opportunities, but I keep striking out. There are HJ places and even a couple BBJ shops, but I am more of a FS guy, preferably threesomes.

Post your results and maybe other will contribute.

Actually my trip was delayed. It was starting to look as though it was not going to happen at all and then I got a call today that it might be happening soon like in the next few weeks.
