I am soon travelling to Changsha. My meeting is however in Xiang Tan, a smaller city close to Changsha. Distance is said to be an hour by taxi. I assume I can expect to find a normal Chinese mongering environment in that city but which is better option:stay in Changsha and go Xiang Tan for the meeting or stay in that city and have an option visit Changsha in case of emergency?

Anybody been there? Any recommendations for a hotel and places?

Got roped into a new KTV next door to the Changsha Sheraton while out walking.

Only had been open 3 days they said.

300rmb sitting fee. Stage show with dancers, singers and pole dancing.

Pay as you go for drinks so felt safe. 180rmb for 6 beers.

#2. I called another number, and the woman told me that I would need to deposit some money in the ATM first. They said that they had prices to agree on for different levels of service. The range was from 500 to 800 (for a "model") for overnight. I told her that I wanted a 700RMB girl. I sent the specifics in Chinese in a text message (basically, I didn't want an old woman or a woman with pubic hair that was missing *for any reason* and if the woman had an abundant Bush, that would be nice, too). We had some miscommunication, and I thought that she wanted 150RMB deposited in the ATM and then I would give the balance upon seeing the girl. The reason that I was willing to do this is because I thought that this was their way of screening to make sure that I was not a police officer trying to raid them. (It made sense at the time.) So, I found out that the ATM did not accept 50RMB notes (It was the China Construction Bank. Often the Bank of China ATM *does* accept 50RMB notes). So, I put in 100RMB and called her back and told her that 100 was all I could get into the ATM (I was not willing to give 200). She said that she would need more.

I told her that there were two options at this point: 1) She could give me an addres, and I would go there and pay the money in person and claim the girl at that point; 2) She could send the girl with a driver and I would give the money to the driver and he could confirm with her at the point of service. She said that it "wasn't convenient." I bid her goodnight and considered that 100RMB spent learning a lesson. So, if 1, 000 brothers don't make the same mistake, then all is well. It only cost 1 mao for each lesson. I don't feel so bad.

Really, this should not surprise me. I remember years ago mentioning to a woman that I was going for an interview at a school (which was actually called "CC English") and gave her my number. Here in Changsha, a lot of hotels have cards with pictures of women. You can call them and a Mamasan will answer you and send you someone over to your room. These places are a bit more expensive than BBS, and my experience with these numbers has always been nearly universally bad. (My central issue has been that: I don't know if these girls come from BBS at twice the price. They also want taxi for for the first girl that send, who invariably looks like Yoda. I went to the website www.baidu.com, and entered the words "&38271; &27801; &20986; &21488; &23567; &22992;" (the characters are "chu / tai / xiao / jie" and mean "outcall hooker" or "out / platform / small / sister" and I got dozens of listings. Here is the interesting part. Most of them had already been taken down by the censors, but for some reason the numbers were such that you could read them well enough to call them. And do you know what? Someone answered. Only Chinese is spoken on those lines.

It's very likely that these numbers were of the same type that you find in a hotel room. The only difference is that: 1. You don't have to open a hotel room to find that they may (or may not) be there; 2. There's a good variety of numbers. (If the person on the line does not want to deal with a foreigner, then it is very easy to call another one) ; 3. A lot of these numbers in the hotel rooms have different number and ostensibly different advertisements, but in point of fact they go to the same Mommy. Once they find out that you are a foreingner (I have successfully pretended to be a Korean) , then they want to play price hockey. But if they pull that shit, in this case, then you have several different service providers from whom you can choose.

briefly:

i decided to go to zhuzhou because i remember that years ago it had a nice little series of places along one street where you could get good service for a good price. i have been back one time since i lived there (for a short time) working at a ghetto school, but the places had closed down. on that first time that i went back, i didn't find anything. i thought that may have been because i was rushed.

step #1. i took an illegal taxi from the train station in changsha (they have those leaving all the time). if we had been able to find 4 people, it would have worked out to 30 rmb per person, but the driver was willing to take the 3 of us (customers) for 40rmb each. the reason that i was willing to let go of the extra 10rmb was in order to save the time. i think we got in the car at 9pm, but only arrived in zhuzhou at 10:30 (i have found that it is better to get to mongering places about 9ish. that's neither too early nor too late.) this driver must have had the iq of a lemon. he had to go and pick up another passenger, and it took a lllooonnnggg time and took a lot of discussion and phone calls (even though the place was only about 3 miles from the train station). finally, we got on the road and got moving. keep in mind that this city is only about 50km from changsha. at the rate of 100km / hour (60mph) , it should take about 30 minutes to get there.

step #2. i went to look at the places that were said to be available (as posted on this board) , but they were not there. there were no bbs "to the right of huatian hotel." not one. there were two bbs there, and they had some so-so looking women there. i opened up a hotel room and invited a decent looking girl back to my room (it was, like. 200m from the bbs-that-was-not-to-the-right-of-huatian-hotel). but there were a couple of problems, and we didn't even get past the first step of negotiations. step #4. i got on the motorcycle with him, and we went some distance. this is where it got strange. we went to one particular street (that you would not have known contained houses of ill repute, because there was no marker of any type). there were several police at the mouth of the street (it was not an intersection and more like a 3 way that you had to pass these men to get through). there were, like. 7 of the police officers. but they didn't have the same uniforms as the other police that you see in your neighborhood. (they're not the people that you meet when you're walkin' down the street. they're not the people that you meet each day.) the driver talked us past them (it took surprisingly many words to get us through-i was later to find that they were checking for people's identification) , and then we went into a place. there were about 12 girls there- and they were all rather mature and well past their prime. some of them were pretty rough.
