Hey I have been to Taipei Night as well. It a rather interesting place since it is actually located beside the Worker's Culture Museum. Suzhou is quite clean (or dead). It is not easy to find one. Actions seem to be found inside hotels. With help from the locals, I tried one near Suzhou Museum. Like the city, the shop was quite clean, much better than those in Shanghai. The girl served me was a 20 year old from Anhui. I should have known better, but I followed at tout to a run down ktv, and in a lousy room they pulled in a rather unattractive girl. Going in I warned them that I did not bring more than 150 RMB, which when I repeated this to to the girl they had brought, rasied a note of fear in her voice that told me it was time to leave. They tried to pull the old, well we brought in so much stuff (lousy fruit trey, cup of tea, 'wine' for the girl, but I told them I did not want any of it when they brought it in, this was raising red flags). I should have caught on earlier, but it was at most 10 minutes before I was on my way out. When they pulled their trick, I started shouting and pushing the door open. Luckly I caught on pretty early and 150 is a small price to pay for the lesson. For the people who do not know China, I could really see how it could be much worse, language skill saved me a lot along with being fired up and shouting loudly but without hitting them. The police friend trick and not pushing for under 150 also was the right move. The wrong move was going with them when I saw the place was run down.

In general it sucked and I am mad at myself for falling for it as far as I did, but at least I can walk away without it denting my lifestyle. Dont follow touts anywhere, far too likely to be this trick.

I recently visited Suzhou. Having been burned once in a KTV bar several years ago, I was wary of venturing too far. Staying in the Castle Hotel (nice 4 star), I tried the massage parlour around the corner next to the KFC. Tried two times, once at the parlour and once in the room but no go.
