Was in San Jose three weeks ago and have plenty to share. I just wanted to chime in real quick on the Gran Via vs Presidente. I stayed at the Gran Via and have some bad news to share. If you choose to stay there, keep an eye on your belongings. Your stuff is not even secure in the safes. I had 60 dollars taken out of my safe on a day I went on the Poas volcano tour. There is no way I could be mistaken either. I have traveled the world and have particular practices. When I put my stuff in the safe I put it in a particular spot (pattern like) as to show if someone had gone through my things. Low and behold the things in my safe were not as I left them. I am not a drinker so it was not one of those "I was so wasted I spent more than i thought" nor was it any girl I was with because I set aside this money to hit the Del Ray the night I got back from the tour. I had the safe key in my possesion at all times but... It is a damn skeleton key... probably easily replicated. Other than that the price was right and rooms were nice. So if anyone chooses the Gran Via, do not be careless with your belongings especially your money. The owner stated that this is the first time he had heard of such a thing, but after talking to some monger guests who frquent the Gran Via, it came about that other guests had mentioned similar occurances but just did not bring it to the attention of the staff. I think it is the maids but did not catch anyone red handed and it becomes a your word against mine thing. So Mongers beware!

I'll have some reports of my escapades at a later date.

Just got back from my annual sabatical to Disneyland for guys, SJ. Spent a week there and as usual everything was fantastic.

October is a great time to go if you don't mind the rain. Lots of ladies, prices are just right. Never pay the asking price at the BM or KL. Can really negotiate at this time of the year. Try to get there between paydays. This also increases the prices. Most nights at BM and KL there was a 2-1 or 3-1 ratio. Had a great time also at Club Idem. Try Tanya there. Cute Tica with a great personality. But need some spanish to make it even better.

Hooked up with one Tica at BM for two nights. What an experience. Everything and anything was available. Paid $150 for 2.5 days and nights. Like a GFE. Sweet lovable and very passionate. You might want to look for Rebecca Julianna or Trini at BM. Both are keepers. Only go once a year, so really shopped while there. (Shopping isn't only looking, it's talking and laying it on the line what you want and expect) Don't be bashful, make sure she knows what you want and expect. If she doesn't meet your standards, just keep on shopping. It is a buyer's market and use it. Spanish is a major plus and will help even if you know a little. When you see something you like go to it immediately to keep fellow mongers away. If anyone wants any further info, just PM and I will give you more details. Try the GREEN SEASON!

Thanks for the tips, I guess the Presidente is for me, as I am fine with ONE girl (why disappoint TWO girls? LOL), and I like to put on the A/C. I have found Rio and Buenos Aires to be MUCH better than CR, but they have a RT fare now to CR for $300 from here, so I am gonna try it again.

I'll post in earnest once stateside, but wanted to share a rather unpleasant experience...

Last night, the Radison Europa refused entrance to our guests!

I hadn't heard of this before. The general manager of the hotel happened to be there and put the kabash on us. We even tried to sneak in after a drink in the bar.

The security guys seemed as amazed as we were. I spoke off and on to the staff and they indicated that you should book a party of 2 (which I can't do), wait until after 10pm (that's when the female staff goes off duty), and do not stop at the desk. Still, no guarantees.

Too bad because, besides that, it's a glorious hotel.

    Hey fellas,

Will be in town from October 21 for about 5 days.

    Quick questions:

    1) Is there anything in CR similar to the Termas-like experience you get from Rio?

    2) Do the chicas here generally kiss?

    Thanks in advance.

    Gentlemen,

Somewhere in the forum I read that it is easier to pay the Airport Tax on arrival and writer provided (I believe) a location outside of the Airport. I reviewed the forum but now cannot find this message.
Can someone guide me what is the best "option" to pay this tax and avoid long lines on departure?

Also where does one get the best rates of exchange, airport, hotel or banks?

    Gracias- firebird

    Norm,

As FL Cracker said go back a few pages as there has been a lot of posts on the subject. Just a thought on the pool thing. We are up in the mountains and it is the rainy season. You might not want to use the pool so much since it is cool not hot here.

There are some places with pools but if you are looking for the "Action" and hotels with no hassle policies on bring in girls you want to close to the center of town. There are places like La Gran Via, Presidente and Morazon. I recommend the Presidente for reasons stated before. They do have a suite with Jacuzzi and a free one on the top floor for all guests.

    Norm,

Swimming pools at downtown hotels are very rare. The Prez has a jacuzzi, but personally I'd be very reluctant to use a public jacuzzi at a monger hotel, if you know what I mean. If you're willing to stay a bit further from the Gulch, your swimming pool options increase. The Best Western Irazu (10-15 minutes from downtown on the way from the airport) has a nice swimming pool and is fairly guest friendly (I forget what the fee is).

The prez definitely does not have any chica fee, but does limit guests to one at a time. Another way around it is to find a buddy who will let you sign the second one in under his room number (assuming he is not planning to sign one in for himself at the same time). It ain't a good idea to sneak them in (or, for that matter, leave them alone in your room while you check in a second one) as it is really just for your protection.

Re: the Gran Via vs Prez comparison, I don't know much about the Gran Via, but can tell you this. The absence of an A/C is not as important as one might think given SJ's mild climate.

    Chuponalgas,

There's some good comparative posts on the Presidente vs. La Gran Via. I decided to stay at the Presidente, although its a little more expensive, and will check out the other hotels mentioned here for future reference. I'm going to be in San Jose on Oct. 19 for 5 days, if anyone is going to be around PM me.

    Chuponalgas,

I stayed at the Presidente and La Gran Via for a few days each in August/September to compare the hotels. The bottom line is that the Presidente is nicer, but Gran Via is cheaper, and different people have different opinions about whether the higher cost is worth it for the higher quality at the Presidente.

In both hotels, my room was clean, the desk staff was helpful, and the water temperature and pressure in the shower were fine. Gran Via has balconies, which the Presidente does not. The Presidente has air conditioning, which Gran Via does not. At Gran Via, you have to leave your key at the front desk whenever you leave the hotel. Since both hotels face Avenida Central, there was more noise than I would have liked late at night and early in the morning, but that's life.

I paid the (discount) rate of $36.50 plus tax per night at Gran Via, and the (discount) rate of $48.00 plux tax per night at the Presidente. I preferred the Presidente, but if money was tight on a return trip, I'd go back to Gran Via.

Sorry to nitpick, but I am bvored here at work. If anyone has the time, a comparison please, Presidente vs. Gran Via. Sounds like if you ask for the corporate rate, the Pres. is actually a lot cheaper?

    Hotel Presidente

Does not allow two girls at the same time which I tried.

If you want to get girls in,first get one girl in and wait for half hour,go down to the cafe meet the other girl and then get the other girl in.

They dont check when the girls leave.

They have a nice jacuzzi, which is clean. If you get a gfe it is nice and romantic. You do have to book in advance. Usually it is available all the time.

Last minute trip for TODAY. Arriving around 2pm. Staying at the Radison. Have the rest of the day and night to enjoy.

Will buy most of the rounds in return for a tour!
