    El Ricardo:

STD...that's a very sensitive subject. My opinion on this is to treat it as a "Yield" traffic sign. You acknowledge its existence, proceed with caution and prepare to stop. You simply don't give up driving just because there is an inherent danger of being killed. Too much pleasure is taken out of mongering, if you become extremely paranoid about STD.

I have been to Brazil, Argentina, Thailand, Costa Rica and never did a "chocha" inspection (as CR Plum did) ever. Being in the Medical Field, my sixth sense always pre-screen the chica before I am ready to take her to my place. Only thing I am paranoid about is general cleanliness. Showers, brushing, mouthwash etc. etc. That's why I always like to bring the girl in my room where I have all the controls. Brothels and MPs sometimes can be problem. The only dumpy place in CR, I partake is at 747. I have a favorita there and after the first time they stopped knocking on the door. She brings fresh towel, fresh sheets, joins me in the shower and complete the deed as cleanly as possible. 30 min session always end up being close to an hour. Never paid any extra for that. Never did or never will go bareback. Definitely prefer BBBJ, but will not insist on it. DFK depends on the chemistry with the girl. Am I shielded from being infected? Absolutely not! Do I worry about it while I am doing her? Absolutely not! Only thing ever happened that some of the girls started bleeding during the encounter. Stopped everything immediately. Let her leave at once (with payment). Change all bed linens and resumed mongering.

Let me amuse you guys with the following risk statistics:

    Risk Condition---------Life Days Lost

    Cancer -------------------980
    30% overweight-------1,300
    Heart Disease ----------2,100
    Cigarette Smoking -----2,250

    UNMARRIED MALE-------3,500

So, friends, if you want to live long....keep pounding....of course proceed with caution. Happy Mongering!!!

    Fellas,

Didn't mean to scare anybody from going to CR. I always have a good time and have been four times in the past 1 year. This last trip, I went by myself but met some friends briefly. While drinking and relaxing, I spent time reflecting on the hobby and doing a cost benefit analysis. In my opinion, the girl has to look really good to take a risk. That means to me nice clean teeth, smells good, clean clothes, not a drug addicted, not heavily used up and do not have any odd pimples downstairs (The pimples/sores mentioned in my previous post may have been not been an STD but they were there and I rather not take risks, since I and all my previous normal gf's have not had such a problem).

The NF does have a couple of okay looking girls but definetly not any stunners (in the four times I stopped in on each of my four trips). I'm sure based on my friends and others on this board descriptions that the level of service in NF is great and probably comparable to a good experience at the local AMP.

The Del Rey does have quite a few quality girls (and some stunning) but they are not always there. And yes, most of the stunners know there hot and tend to not provide the best girl friend type experience (similar to many good looking women in the US in general) but if your looking for love your in the wrong place. Given some are clock watchers and not ethusiastic, but you have a watch also (or a TV guide channel) and should make her work for the $.

The crowd at the Del Rey is a mix of all ethnicitys with most I met being from the US, Canada and Latin America. The crowd is mostly older men 40's plus but there are quite a few in their 30's and 20's (I being in the later). The senoritas are mostly in there early 20's with most having a least one kid, however, there are a few older ones, probably maxing out at about 35 or 40. The girls are mostly Ticas, Colombians, Domincans, Nicaraguans and Panamanians, in order of greatest # to least.

You guys are making me reconsider a short trip to Costa Rica with all of this talk of HIV, AIDS and Herpes. I was trying to decide between a little longer and more costly venture to Argentina and a short trip to Costa Rica because my time is a little limited right now. I have made a couple of ventures to CR in years past (perhaps 5 years since I was last there) and I had previously read that CR was attractive because the per capita number of STD cases down there was quite low. I realize there are risks in this hobby so I like to increase my odds by protection and staying away from the obvious risks.

So, what can you all tell me? Has the STD rate gone up there or are we just getting more sensitized to the possibility?

I am thinking of a trip down around the beginning of August? Anybody else down there during this time?
    thanks,
    ER

    Blind Lust,

If you find your way to BM you won't have to worry about ulgy or fat girls; almost all the girls are fine; it's just some are better than the others; alot of that has to do with personal preference

I am not an expert by any means as Costa Rica has been my only destination out side of the US. But I think it is a great spot to monger.

Is it the best city? No is it any worse that parts of Chicago or New Orleans? No and in some cases it is better.

I think the place and your experiences are more of what you make of them. What made my last trip more enjoyable were the fellow mongers from this site and others that I met and ate with and partied with.

Is there a possibility of a bad experience yes but no more than anywhere else. The massage parlors New Fantasy and Zona Blue provide great experiences. Do you always find a 10 working there? No but most of the 10's I have grabbed don't provide the GFE or memorable experiences I have had in CR. Don't get me wrong there are those 10's which in my last trip I had one that blew me away so to speak.

I don't think anyone would be disappointed with a trip to CR but I admit I am hooked on the place.

I am planning a return trip in October.

    Blind Lust:

I agree with Bandy. I did not have any problems with any girls at any of the places I visited during my 2 week stay in SJ. It is kind of odd to find a girl at BM for $30.00, it may happend but I may also win the lotery today, no I forgot to buy a ticket.

I highly recommend CR for all it has to offer. Getting there is not bad. Prices for everything are low. Gril selection is very good. All things considered I rather a trip to CR than many other places.

Samantha at BZ will cater to your needs.

    Happy huntings.

Here are some answers to your Q.

1- In CR the same US electrical outlets are used.

    2- Do not know

3- Crime does not compares with Mexico. It is mosly petty theft (pick pockets, grab articles and run, etc.) Do not put yourself in harms way by walking after dark alone.

4- There are two papers with web sites from CR: diarioextra.com and Nacion.com. They list everything for sale or rent etc..

5- There are no cheap electronics in CR. Bring your own.

6- Mercado Central is a huge conglomerate of stores. If you can not find it there it may not exist. Sarchi, a small town 1 hour away from SJ have a lot of hancrafted stuff (from $1.00 to xxx) it is worth the trip.

7- The exit tax office closes at 10:00 but extension of the visa is for 90 days max. You mentioned you are staying for 4 month check on that, you may have to ask for an extension or get out of the country for a couple of days and then return. I do not know much about extending your stay over the 90 days.

8- Most stores carry same US brands but there are always something you can not get (ie. good condoms). By the same token there are many fruits, vegetables, and other merchandise you can not get in the states.

I trully envy you, happy huntings.....

    Mr. Lust,

Yeah, it's not nearly so bad as Plum says and is actually pretty great at times in SJ. The Blue Marlin is a fairly small bar, and though it gets crowded with women and mongers sometimes, it's usually a lot of fun to be there. Around the bar there is a waiting area and some slot machines which you can hang out at if the crowd is too much.

There were always attractive women there when I was there-attractive by most all standards. And I never encountered what Plum described so elegantly in terms of scarring, warts, etc. His report sounds like another country to me. As for New Fantasy, it's not the Four Seasons hotel lobby, but then it's as nice as any MP in the US I've seen. There were several nice looking girls when I was there (see my report) and Bandy has it right about a steady flow of customers.

    Master Monger:

I'll try to answer a number of your questions. You can RTFF for even better (or more thorough) results:

    1) The outlets and power is just like the US. No converter necessary.
    3) This is a relative question. I did not find the crime to be bad at all there, and had no incidents. It all depends on what you are used to. Just use common sense like you would in a big city in the US. Don't wear expensive jewelry out in the open. In fact, why not leave it at home? I saw no guns, except in the hands of bank guards and security. I don't think it's a gun-crazy country like the US
    4) I don't think car rentals are that expensive, but I can't see why you'd want one given how cheap taxis are (always ask for the meter before getting in) and other forms of transit. Also, the roads to many places are quite bad. I recommend flying wherever you can. Sanza is a good way to go and quite cheap ($45 for a ticket to Manuel Antonio and only a 15 minute flight).
    7) RTFF for the exit tax in the airport. There is also a bank in SJ where you can pay the tax (it's near the Park Hotel). The airport works like most airports and has a marked baggage claim.
    8) Many known brands are available, and you shouldn't have a problem with this. Same is true at the grocery store and pharmacy.

    Good luck to you,

    Jim

    Bandy,

My previous post in response to CR Plum was more tongue-in-cheek thank anything. I recognized his post for what it was. The other issue I addressed (blind monger being swarmed by pigs) is in fact very real, but of course there are numerous benefits; free feels, etc. that you poor sighted guys never get. Still, it can be daunting! I'm in the process of booking hotel and air for early September; I'd like to be in the city for the Sept. 15th Independence Day celebrations. We'll see... heh heh. Thanks for the encouragement, friend. BTW--> Here's a shout to the local guys, Vegas Bob etc. I am of course looking for a guide/wingman. Help a blind brother out? Cheers, and please keep playing safely.

    Master Monger:

I am answering your questions as best I can, based upon my own research and not from personal experience. I've been reading this topic for months now, and I've gleaned some very useful info. I've quoted other sources where appropriate. I'm replying to your post both to help you save a little time, and to help you avoid the inevitable "RTFF" replies you may get from other mongers.

It strikes me as curious that you're planning to live in CR for four months, but didn't do any research about basic survival before now. This isn't a flame, per se. It's just that I am so anal retentive that I always research the living daylights out of a travel destination before buying the ticket, etc. and I'm always amazed by people who don't.

    1. CR uses the U.S. electrical standard; no adaptors needed. (World Radio/TV Handbook, 2002 edition)

    2. From what I have been told by some locals I have been corresponding with, safe deposit boxes are readily available at the larger metro banks, but they may be slightly more expensive to rent than in the U.S.

    3. According the the CIA World Book of Facts, most street crime is of the pickpocket/purse snatch sort of thing, although violent crime is on the increase. If you've lived in any U.S. city of pop. 100,000 or more, you'll handle SJO no problem. And shit man, you've lived in Indonesia. Don't worry.

    4. Go to Tico Times online and browse their classified. In general, anything imported is more expensive than in the U.S. I don't know about rentals, but I've read ads listing numerous vehicles for sale.

    5. According the the World Radio/TV handbook, CR uses the same NTSC standard for TV as the U.S. Again, no problem

    6. From what I've read on this Forum, numerous shopping opportunities abound, but again, if it's imported, it will be more expensive. Many posters to this topic have suggested bringing American-made makeup, shampoos, perfumes, even Skippy peanut butter to use as gifts. Why (IMHO) would the local gals want cheap trinkets from their own backyard?

    7. No idea. All my information is from research on the Internet, etc. I've never been to CR

    8. Yes of course they have many of the same U.S. brands you enjoy here. The groceries, if CR has anything in common with other places in Latin America I've visited will have 30% familiar foods, 70% local favorites. You'll find things to eat, no worries.9.

    NF Lives!

Last week I started my 5 days of mongering with an afternoon visit to NF. $40 for 1 hour with the cutest 21 yr. old Tica named Michele.

We showered, then I got a massage,BBBJ,wild thing w/c,then a steam bath, then did it again! Her tongue was so close to my BH-I loved it.

I really wanted to see her again but the girls at BM & KL kept me drained. That's another post.

BTW, afterwards, the cute receptionist asked if I had a good experience with the girl and was I totally satisfied. She offered me water or juice which I declined. She then handed me a mint!

    I'm going back Sept 1 and I can't wait!

    Blind Lust,

San Jose may not be in the same league of Rio or Buenos Aires, but it is also not as bad as described by CR Plum. IMHO, he was too drunk to experience anything objectively. If NF is a hospital for dying women, then they should have extra security available, since patients are dying to get in there. His report is mired with contradictions. He started and ended his report saying that he had a great time. However, except "feeding the crocs", I don't see anything exciting in his report. If you are preparing for so long for this trip, one person's questionable observations should not derail your dream. Most of the reports in this section are extremely positive. There will always be some isolated girls who will render poor services, but overall mongering in San Jose can be quite memorable. By the way, don't look for $30 deal in BM. Have fun and report back.

    Dear fellow mongers,

40 hours away from arrival and I have a few more questions and keep in mind that I am staying for 4 months, I hope this makes it up in time my computer got a virus and I just got back online.

1.) Do they have the same power setup as the US or do I have to bring or buy, a POWER CONVERTER?

2.) Can I get a safety deposit box at a bank as I booked an apartment (website info at bottom) and wont have a room safe. Maybe I could go to a market and buy a floor safe? I did that in Indonesia, it was about 500lbs and cost me $200.

3.) Are the criminals really bad there? Because I have been to Japan, Mexico, China, and Indonesia and never had a problem with my jewelry. :-( It is really freaking me out, What if I don't wear it while searching for P4P and only to the clubs and around town? Are there a lot of guns?

4.) I know car rentals are expensive; What about moped or small motorcycle rentals? or even, How much does it cost to just buy a small moped or small car.

5.) I love other countries for the cheap DVDs, I have a portable DVD player from Toshiba, are the TV hook-ups the same and should I bring it?

6.) Isn't there a street market there where I can buy little trinkets for girls CHEAP? That is what I always do in other countries. Plus I like buying cheap clothes for me especially considering I am staying for 4 months.

7.) When I exchange money and pay Airport Exit Tax at the Airport. Can I do this at 9pm when my flight gets in and what do I do with my bags(go to baggage claim get my bags then what)??? Also where in the Airport do I do all this?

8.) Do they have any of the same brands we do at any of the stores like Duracell, Kleenex, Right Guard, and what do the grocery store what kind of food is available?

Thank you in Advance Gentlemen and as a small token now, with many awesome pictures to come, I offer you a great website I found for Apartments for Rent in Costa Rica under $500 a month:

    http://www.strayreality.com/class_homes_for_rent.htm

    Thanks again,

    My fellow posters,

Are any of you friendly with Roberto at IDEM? I used to live in CR about 3 years ago and IDEM was like my second home I always went with a tall brunette named ANDREA. Does anybody have any info on her? Or at least ask Roberto about her? She was a very sweet gal.

    Thanks in advance,

    Beast74
