If you want to watch American football in Rio then there are several choices. The Marriott Lobby bar has a big screen TV with satelite, they play all the games and on game day the bar is packed with Americans. This is in Copacabana.

There is an Irish bar in Ipanema called Shenanagans they also have a sports bar type atmosphere and the famous Lord Jim Pub in Leblon has the games. You have 3 choices and there may be even more especially in Barra.

The Princess Copacabana and Premiere are two seperate properties. I'm actually headed down week after next and will be staying at the Princess which is a Apart-hotel. So I've been informed by Ipanema.com. they are relaxed when it comes to guests, especially now in the slower period. The Princess is right in walking distance to Help from what I understand. The Premiere was gonna be my second choice.

Not sure where you would find US style football, but I'm sure one of the bars has it showing

Wow. I thought I was headed to Thailand but my boss just called and told me my yearly bonus is a paid trip (air and hotel) to Rio. I'm blown away. I have some questions for the experienced Rio travelers. Are there any bars in Rio that will be showing American Football live on TV on Sunday and Monday Night? Will there be less girls around in the days right after Christmas? Is the hotel Princess Copacobana the same as the Premiere Copacobana? Anybody have any info on the Premiere Copacobana? I was in Rio for the Christamas of 2003. I remember that Mabs was open beginning in the afternoon as was No Name Bar (now Scotland Yard). Basically things are about normal except for that morning. Update on Monte Carlo,

I've reported fully on Monte Carlo a couple of times recently. I went back there last night with one of their "semana maluca" emails in hand. This is the discount that will be emailed to you periodically if you're on their email list and entitles you to a free cabine, which is a savings of R50. This is the only time I go to MC. I really don't like the place, but I'm never one to pass up a bargain.

I arrived expecting the worst because it was prime time, 8:00PM on a Thursday night. However, there were fewer men than I expected, and quite a few available girls. I hooked up with a very choice morena named Gabriella and booked her for 40 minutes in a cabine (which you must do if you use the "semana moluca" promotion, otherwise they won't honor it.)

JackDaniels, yes the main action is on Dec. 31st, but with people coming in from all over Brazil and the rest of the world starting around Christmas and some staying well into January, there is PLENTY of action here in Rio to occupy you for a lot longer then 3 or 5 days.
The working girls start arriving here in early December and stay here until well after Carnival…… so there is always a lot of action then.
