Hotel Paysandu.

This is a VERY basic type of hotel. Many of the rooms have no hot water on the basin faucet, the rooms are very old and the breakfast is horrible (substandard compared to even substandard hotel breakfasts!). There is also a lot of noise from mechanical equipment and the place looks like it is falling apart. Those are the negatives, now the positives; great Flamingo location on a quiet street near good restaurants and transportation, very friendly hotel staff, good A/C, very small addition for guests. All in all, I would not stay here as there are other better deals around town.

Besides that, you have other reasons why the overall price of ass in Brazil is not going to go up:

1) The poor in Brazil aren't getting any richer. One hundred Reis will still be a lot of money 5 years from now, and there will always be girls who will do anything for that amount of money.

2) The birthrate in Brazil is still high, especially in the country. The innocent 13 year olds of today are tomorrow's fresh crop of Rio putas.

3) Brazilian men are NOT going to overpay, no matter what us gringos do, and the amount spent by Brazilian men on prostitutes absolutely dwarfs the amount spent by foreigners. You can overpay all you like, but you won't move the overall market price much.

The only thing that is going up is the price of ass at HELP. Outside of HELP, and particularly outside of Rio/SP, Brazilian ass is selling for the same price it was years ago. So if you don't like the price of HELP girls, get the hell away from HELP.

Thanks for clarifying the guest policy of the Luxor Regente. After I read your post, I called them and they confirmed what you said and went on to say that they charge R$ 50 for your guest and the only way they will allow guest is if you are booked under a single room. Looks like a nice hotel that would definitely be worth considering. Thanks!

I will be back in Rio soon and I am trying to branch out a bit. I appreciate those posts on the smaller thermas in Copacabana and centro.

But I did hear from a friend that some of those places, even in Copacabana, are scary for a gringo. He said he felt uncomfortable in the Thermas Copacabana (I think this is the one located near Blockbuster Video/Citibank). Are these places safe, in general? Is the Therams Copacabana safe?

I for one would greatly appreciate it if you and others would refrain from preaching to other members about how much we should pay garotas. It's perfectly okay to tell us what you spend, and even the maximum that you would spend, but it's really not your business what others spend. After all, I am a grown man, it's my money, and I'll spend as much or as little as I please. If I especially like a girl, I will pay her a little more, and in some cases a lot more. In other words, I'll pay what it's worth to me.

Just for the record, I have often many times made outside appointments with termas girls that I have received excellent service from, and I have written elsewhere about how to get them into top quality hotels. My going rate for them is US$100 per hour, which I inform them of when I'm making the date over the phone. It has never failed to result in the girl keeping the date and giving me excellent service in an air conditioned room in a luxury hotel. Now that's paradise! I usually take them out to dinner as well, off the clock of course.

Bottom line: if you try to act like someone with some class, you'll have a great time and definitely have a GFE. It's never failed. And swear off HELP! Most of the girls there are skanks. Find a high quality girl at a termas or an escort service and strike up a private arrangement with her. You won't regret it.

This is like the Beverly Hills or Upper Manhattan of Rio, so lots of everything. One cheap and good restaurant right around the corner is CHAIKA. Just down from Chaika are two bookstores with coffee shops and Internet services.

Come on guys don't be sheep and follow the crowd to Copacabana! Ipanema is 10X cleaner nicer and safer and just a 10 minute cab-ride away. Just because you monger in Copacabana for 2 hours a day, why spend the other 22 hours a day in a dirty violent shithole????

For a really first class apartment in a great neigborhood, can't beat the Ipanema Tower. Full maid service and breakfast, 24 hour lobby and doorman. The published prices are high, but when I call them and mooch a little (corporate discount, stayed b4, etc.), they end up giving me the 2 BR suites for about $100-110 a night. This is where, e.g., IBM puts its execs who are there for a week or more. Completely girl-friendly, 1 block from Ipanema beach, Internet access in the lobby, great restaurants around the corner. Units have full kitchen, good A/C, 10 minute cab ride to Help. Much cleaner, safer than Copacabana, like night and day. Don't pay extra for the view suites on the higher foors, they have a view of the beach or algoon thru other blgs IF you stand on the balcony, not worth it and they will usually upgrade you anyway if these are open when you arrive. One bedroom in most units is King size, other has two twins and slightly smaller, so usually split the price 60/40 with my buddy.

Young & Restless: Other folks jumped in and answered your questions. Luxor Regente is at other end of beach. Same policy: sign the girl in, and they charge you extra.

Kenn has a lot of apartments, search forum for info about him. Some folks swear by apartments, but I think you understand it is a mixed bag. You do save money, no question about that. The maid service may or may not be available every day. One nice thing about a hotel is if there's a problem, you just move to another room. You can generally get a quiet and cool room to catch up on your sleep. An apartment may be very noisy, or the A/C may not cool that great. That sort of thing.

Looks like you had a good time in Rio. I have also had a similar experience with a girl from Help going through my pockets. She did it while I was passed out so I was madder at myself than at the girl. Thankfully she didn't get too much.

I have thought about getting an apartment in Rio. I want one that changes the sheets everyday and picks up a little bit. While I'm on vacation, the only chore that I want to focus on is having a good time. Also, I would want a decent one. I'm not saying the Ritz Carlton, but I have gone to a couple of garaota's apartments in Rio and although they were close to the beach, they were both pretty run down.

Recommend one to me (and their web-site, if possible) and I'll check into it. I'm going back in November and the current plan is to stay at the Rio Roiss. The pictures that I have seen look fair, but if I can get something better for the same price, I'm all over that!

Just got back from 10 fun filled days in Rio and had a blast again !! Just a word to the wise, watch your back. My buddy got mugged right around the corner from Help about a 1/2 block down Miguel Lemos. Three thugs got his empty wallet, he was smart and left credit cards etc. in his apartment. Roughed up a bit but no damage.....just be careful as always.

We hit Monte Carlo, L'uomo and Centauras.

Monte Carlo...used to be my favorite but talent level has been average for about a year now. Look for Luanna, 5'4" 100lbs, white complexion, short brown hair, great attitude and a pornstar in the sack. Loves to give rim jobs. Also, Lila, maybe 5' 90lbs, beautiful face and body and suck the chrome off a trailer hitch !!! Got me off twice in 40 minutes...nice !!!!

Luomo....keep hearing great things but didn't see it when there. Maybe we hit slow nights. Did a rookie, first week on the job and it showed. Very nice but kinda timid and gave covered BJ, only second time in 4 years, but finished nice. Can't recall her name, she was tall, thin blond with a cute face...

Cetauras.....hands down winner again. If you only get one girl here make it Melena !!! BEAUTIFUL with a killer body. Somewhere between mulatta and morena with a great smile and great black hair past her shoulders. Just alot of great looking women to chose from here. Slightly more expensive but worth it.

Still don't understand guys who get hotel rooms instead of apartments. You can get maid service in your apartment for a small charge and you have no hassels about guests. A room at the Marriott for $230 ??? That's 5 nights in a One bedroom apt. !!!! Think of all that extra cash for garotas !!!!


Termas girls do get fined for missed days and some termas, like Monte Carlo, will fire a girl if she is seen outside with a client from the club. Has happpened to me with respect to 2 girls from there....Marcio canned them both.

It's winter time a the crowds from Help are gone and the ratio of Mongers to garotas was great. Not to beat a dead horse but guys are still over paying. 300R + was the asking price for nearly every girl....tell them NO WAY !!! We held fast to a max. of 200R and had few turn away. Stay away from the "it's only an extra $33 US" bullshit....IT'S THE PRINCIPLE. A $100 US is a shit load of money, don't pay it !! OK, sermon over.

And watch your shit around these Help chicks cause some, not all but some, will steal you blind. Something like...."can I have a glass of water ??" sure and when you walk back in the bedroom she's going thru your pants pocket/wallet !! Once again, watch your ass. In my experience these chicks a in the minority but......

Young & Restless: That hotel right next to the Marriott is the California hotel, it has been there for years and is a good hotel, its now part of the Othon chain so you can check it out on their website. The luxor Regente is more down near Help one block from the Debret and the Miramar Palace, it is more in walking distance to Help.

The Luxor Copacabana is the one next to the Marriott. No worries about the ladies there, mate. They will ask her to register and keep her ID, though -- when she leaves, they'll call your room to make sure everything's good before they return her ID.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I do figure I have to experience it once in my life. There's no way I'd blow $ on a hotel again -- I've already booked an apartment in Ipanema (averages about $60/night, including Carnaval!) and I got a good deal on air from LAX (about $770 on fares-fair.com, including a stop in Iguazu Falls before I come home).

The last time I was there was in the middle of their winter, and while I had a blast, it was a bit sedate, and I'm itching to see the other extreme! Anyone else who will be there around that time is free to PM me.
