Have replied to your PM but for others and, knowing that African is not my flavour in any shape or form (me being Flipina only), guys wanting some dark flavours heere is my take on the matter.

You could try Blitx in the Novotel, the Bule Nile in the Saba Hotel (an interesting mix of clubs), even Gauloises in Le Meridien has Africans. All shapes, sizes and abilities am sure.

As for Blitz, it's my favorite spot and i'm obviously biased, but still, i am not convinced about the band. The previous singer was perhaps not as good as this singer, but at least he put on more of a show. The girls for sure are worse, unless you like ugly, fat Filipinas. Still, the music isn't half bad, if only they could do without:
- ABBA songs
- Gymnastics during Iron Maiden songs
- and worst of all, go "say eh-oh, say oh" and expect you to repeat after them during "Another Brick in the Wall". That really got me into a "WTF??" mode, and that seldom happens anymore...guess i should be grateful instead of annoyed for feeling someting close to a real emotion..ah well...life is a b1tch i guess

Sorry brothers that I'm reporting this in Abu Dhabi thread as I'm currently back in Abu Dhabi & made a trip down to Dubai today.

Most 5 star hotels have good gyms and most are open to non memebers but these are pricey. There was a Gold's gym on Hamdan Street. But I suspect this could like the gym you describe. Failing that many use the Corniche as their gym now as I see many doing all sorts of exercise there at weekend

Band in Blitz is nowhere near as good as it was 2 years ago. Better in 49ers and some of the Filipino places

BTW, just visited Blitz, early evening, expected it to be 'quiet', it was. The band was not THAT bad. I'm a jazz snob, so can be very fussy, but found the Pinay "troop" great fun. (I should say that I've spent much time in the far east, and always enjoyed filly bands.) [So called Jazz Band in the novotel bar a few weeks back. Well that WAS awful!]

Try the Jazz Bar at the AUH Hilton. That's the old Hilton out at the end of the Corniche. Haven't been there in a while but it used to have passable jazz.

sorry brothers that i'm reporting this in abu dhabi thread as i'm currently back in abu dhabi & made a trip down to dubai today.

after having a meeting with 1 of many potential customers in uae, we entrusted our trusty taxi driver to show us some scenes in dubai. we were kinda dry in abu dhabi without any contacts & sorry to some brothers here who tried to help as i do not have the pm service running.

" it was a chinese massage center & i am a chinese myself! i was also worried of my 2 buddies which were still in their rooms. after sitting in the dark, i decided to move into their rooms. met up with my buddies & whispered to them the situation. 3 of us where stucked in the small massage room. worried on what to come. looking out from the massage room window, i tried to peep to see if there was any enforcement agency cars downstairs but there wasn't any. shit, we wanted to leave the place but lady boss didn't allowed us to do so.

after 1. 5 hours later, lady boss came into our room & told us "you can leave now, they have left". immediately 3 of us rushed out of the center. we didn't' use the lift but left through the staircase just to be on the safe side. funny as it might seem, there wasn't a single patrol car or enforcement agency car downstairs! we thank our lucky stars & related the story to our taxi driver. he was a good chap & apologies for bringing us there. it was his problem but the massage center. then off we left back to abu dhabi while talking & laughing at the adventure that all 3 of us went through. we didn't flew thousands of miles here to get caught by the police or immigration officers!
