    Lee Bog,

I think you were taken. What does this guy look like? Maybe a description can help others avoid getting ripped off too. Anyway, it is always better to "take care of things" at the station. Never give money to these guys. There are tourist guidebooks available at various locations that tell you how to deal with exactly this kind of stuff and what are infraction and with they cost. One is located just past all the yellow taxis as you enter into Mexico by foot. Once you jump into the $5 taxis, you past right by it as you pull out of the driveway. It will be on your righthand side. Another is on Revo and 1st street.

Lee, I'm pretty sure that particular guy was not a cop either, altho who knows? I got a similar shakedown TWICE recently by uniformed cops. Don't think it coulda hurt to ask for his ID. There are a lot of plainclothes cops around there, but the first thing they do, every time I see them in operation, is flash the badge. Of course, anybody can buy a phony badge for $5... I have never seen anything remotely interesting in Tropa, so I stick to the AB/CC/Alley route, which seems pretty safe.

Research: Circumcision reduces HIV infection sevenfold
    By NINA GILBERT

Circumcision reduces by sevenfold the incidence of infection with the HIV virus, according to new research to be published this week in Uruguay, Dr. Yinon Shenkar informed the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women on Monday.

Shenkar warned, however, that Israel should not be complacent about risks of AIDS as a result of the research, noting that a certain percentage of new immigrants are not circumcised and do not undergo the procedure.

Shenkar, who returned to Israel recently after working for the World Health Organization, said the research conducted in Kenya, Uganda and South Africa, found a "close" and "dramatic connection" between circumcision and a lack of AIDS.

He was speaking at a session of the committee to mark AIDS Awareness Day, with a focus on the chances of women catching the disease.
According to the Health Ministry, 1,165 women in Israel have either HIV or AIDS, 633 of them Ethiopian immigrants, 236 foreign workers and the remaining 296 Israelis. Some 3,000 people are known to the Health Ministry to have the virus, although 4,000 are believed to be infected.

Inbal Gur-Aryeh, an HIV carrier who has been appointed as a United Nations AIDS ambassador, said the number of women who have contracted the disease has increased 10 percent since 1996.
Health Ministry official Nira Besudo-Manor said that since the 1990s nearly 50% of all new cases are among women. She attributed the change to immigration from Ethiopia.

Sixteen percent of HIV carriers are native Israeli women who contracted the disease through heterosexual sex, Manor said.

Shenkar said a new survey of secular schools has found that the average age that youth start having sex is 14.5 for boys and 15 for girls. He said that among sexually active boys 32.1 percent reported having five or more partners.

Shenkar also warned that there is a risk of contracting HIV from oral sex, whereas the use of condoms during such sex is "next to zero." He said the female condom, which is not sold in Israel, is an effective means for women to protect themselves from AIDS and not have to depend on men.

Holy shit! Do the girls across the street from the Miami bar disregard personal hygiene? I had to stay focus to avoid getting nauseous from stink pussy (possible std?) and pussy farts (first for me) I did both chicks doggie but the bunghole stench from one chica made me turn her over for missionary. It took intense concentration for me to get nuts. Im suprised I did it. Their were times I seriously thought of running out of the room. Is it me or do the girls across the street from the Miami bar don't wipe their asses well? This is troubling for me because I just started doing doggie and they make me want to abandon it. Next time I will keep this in mine. I'm going to stay away from that area unless I negotiate a really good deal or the chica is a knockout.

Be careful walking in the area near La Tropa. TJ Cop got some money out of me. Threatened to take me to station if I didn't give him bucks right there. Recent posts say there's a rise in police extorting money. I suppose the law of averages caught up with me.

I've analyzed the experience and maybe I can avoid repeating it if I:

    1. Dress down. I had a long sleeve collared shirt, slacks, and black shoes. Nothing fancy but in TJ maybe I looked like someone with some money to spend.

    2. Don't walk around alone in La Tropa area, especially after midnight. That was the first time I'd been around there that late alone. Cops may hang out around there to prey on mongers.

    3. Take taxis at night when alone in the Zona.

For those who haven't read Brockton O'Toole's latest TJ Guide I recommend it. It's in the Tijuana index. Even though I'm not a first timer to TJ I found his thoughts on Zona Norte Safety helpful. And this recent experience made me even more cautious in TJ.

Thanks a lot to Jackson for this forum. And thanks to all those who've made great posts.

    That's the gist of it.

If anyone is interested, here's what happened in more detail:

    October 2003, Saturday 12:30 am

I was walking along the street near AB when I heard someone yelling something. After a few seconds of the voice calling I turned around to see what was going on. There was a tall Mexican with a moustache about 15 feet behind me, leaning up against the wall outside La Tropa Bar. He had on civilian clothes. He motioned me to come over. "Yeah you," he says. I walk over, wondering what this is about, and I'm starting to feel a bit wary.

Guy: I'm an undercover cop. We got a report of a suspect. He looks like you. That's why I called you. Didn't you hear me calling you?

Me: No, sorry. (I smile trying to be friendly)

Guy: (looks around, he's all business) When I call you, you're supposed to come right away. Okay?

Me: Alright. (My smile fades. I don't like where this is going)

Guy: Since you didn't stop when I called you, that's an offense. I can take you down to the station right now. You understand? (looks around) Now you can pay the fine right here, or at the station. Your choice.

I start debating. Do I really want to call his bluff? Maybe spend some time at the station and lose sleep? Will I have to deal with the hassle of trying to phone someone to get me out of this mess?

    Me: How much is it?

Guy: Show me everything you got in your pockets.

Oh man, I think to myself. Then I start going thru my pockets.

    Guy: Come on. Everything.

I search around and slowly fish out a bill at a time.

Guy: Don't try to hide it. If I take you to the station I'm gonna get everything anyway.

My search came up with about $23. He takes it.

Guy: Okay. Where you headed now?

    Me: My hotel.

Guy: You know which way it is?

    Me: Yeah.

    Guy: Okay, you can go.

Walking to my hotel, I wonder if he was really a cop. Maybe I should've asked for his ID. But if he really Was a cop, would asking for his ID [CodeWord140] him off and make him give me a harder time? I tried to look on the bright side. He could've gotten more money from me, or I could've gone to the station, or something worse. I've been going to TJ almost every month for over a year and this is the first time this has happened.

    Hey Hurricane:

I'm going to TJ this week (probably Thursday) and plan to 3pop at AB. I have an early AM meeting and hope to hit AB around 1 o'clock. I need to be out by around 5PM to 6PM to make it back home at a decent hour.

Anyone else plannig a trip this week?

Just got back from TJ this weekend. Adelitas was super packed Sat night, Chicagos was busy but there was breathing room. I usually go to Adelitas during the day so this was new for me. I went to a bunch of the revolution strip clubs with a buddy who i used to go to Tj with almost 10 years ago. Noticed that the strippers have "pimps" (female) who try to get you to do lap dances with them. Thats new since I went there years ago. What's the deal with that? Sat night there were some mighty fine women stripping at peanuts n beer. But there was also a nasty TV running around the joint as well. I guess some things never change... HA
