A fun bro drove 3 others in a double date to Tijuana. On the way back, as the directions were confusing, he mistakenly drove into SENTRI lane. He thought he had only 1 prior warning, but he actually had 2 prior, so this third time they were sent to Secondary Inspection and fined $5,000. Payable on the spot of his car would get impounded. He had to pay with his credit card to get out. Impounded cars will incur additional storage and recovery costs.

People have worked with the court and get the fine reduced to $500. He should wait for the court notice and write to the court, plead innocence or poverty and try to get the fine reduced. I had traffic tickets, paid full bail amounts to County courts, contested the charges, got them dismissed and refunded.

Warnings about $5,000 fine have been posted along the SENTRI lanes for decades. His 3 passengers were also given first time warnings, recorded in CBP file for life. This is serious. They may be denied SENTRI or GLOBAL ENTRY if they apply in the future.

I also had a couple warnings in SENTRI lanes in the past 7 or 8 years. I applied to renew the card in 2018 and was approved quickly. So CBP can be lenient.

Last month I lost my wallet in HK, damn, drove back in SENTRI lanes with no IDs or money whatsoever. I explained to the CBP guy at the barrier, he let me drive to the car booth. Again explained to the CBP guy at the booth. He looked up my name and waved me through quickly, no problem. I applied for card replacement, got an email from CBP saying your card is approved, go ahead and use it. The next week I still had not received the card, printed out that letter and showed it to CBP to cross back. The CBP agent said I could use Global Entry lanes at airport without the card, but for land crossing, the card is required for them to pull up records. He looked up my record and and let me through without warning.

Like other cases in Federal law enforcement, the feds would give suspects one or two warnings. Once the suspects know they are in violation of the laws but keep violating, the Feds will enforce the laws with proof of intent.

They don't. Also, all OXXO and supermarkets and liquor stores must stop selling at midnight in Baja and other Mexican states, and IIRC can't resume until 10 am.

Got more details from the bro about this extortion incident by Tijuana policias.

2 young guys and 2 girls were in a taxi leaving HK after 1 AM, heading to club Alebrije in Zona Rio. They wanted more beers and complained OXXO closed after midnight. Cabbie took them to a liquor store 5 blocks away, encouraged them to drink in the cab, while busy talking a lot on the phone with someone, which they could understand only a few word. Cabbie drove them around the area, taking the long way, so it looked like this cabbie set these kids up to get ripped off by his policias buddies. There are a lot of greedy, shady and ugly people in the poor third world who would abuse visitors every chance they have.

While in Tijuana or any foreign countries, limit your exposures and take low profiles to avoid giving assholes opportunities to dick with you, like vendors, beggars, bullies, gang bangers, cartels, bar bouncers, policias. Stay nice and clean, avoid anything even remotely borderline illegal. Taking UBER or LYFT would be safer than taxis, as you at least have the drivers' IDs to take any measure against them later.

When stopped by policias, try to take down their IDs and car license #s. I have cameras front and back of the car recording videos and audios, stop only at well lighted areas with people. I mentioned that to policias so they never tried to pull any shit against me.

I saw him leaning on the DJ's booth the Friday night before the shoot out. He looked very down and out. I did not know what happened and did not have time to talk to him.

Like other indirect workers, he worked only on call, not full time, not permanent. I found him one night standing next to the front desk handling, but not counting, a stack of 200,500-peso bills about 10 inch thick.

If anyone wants to warn Hong Kong, they would have to aim at the owners' families, wives, GFs, children ect, not a low level worker like Augustin. So I tend to believe it was personal against him, not HK.

I wonder if this was a message to HK that they are paying the wrong Cartel for protection. Doubt if he owed money because debtors are usually kept alive so that they can work their ass off to meet interest payments. Dead bodies don't generate income very well. I knew him well, I was told by my ex mesero friend about the news of his death. I am truly sorry for his family, how evil the cartel violence is in Mexico and especially Tijuana. I will be honest, there are not any permanent happy endings in the zona.

I found him back to work in HK on Friday night March 18, standing dejectedly next to the DJ booth on the second floor. He looked aged and scared, different from a cool, easy-going gentleman before.

The article says he was driving to work in a yellow Nissan Xterra on Via Rapida. The assassin rode along on a motorbike, shot him twice through the glass. He was declared dead at the scene.

Looks like a professional hit. Don't know what he got himself into to be murdered.
