On Saturday, Tijuana was a ghost town as one of my favorite described it. It was similar to the Covid lockdown except for the sounds of sirens and car fires. As far as I know the zona norte was closed down. I cannot recall the last time the zona norte was closed down, even during the height of the cartel wars back in the day (about 10 years ago or so) when several hundred people were kidnapped and tortured to death, and triggered a mass exodus of middle class Mexicans to Chula Vista. Back then I had to take a 357 with me as a good luck charm. Fuck, now most of the major clubs have metal detectors.
Sunday morning, the shelter in place order is still in effect. But the curfew was supposed to end per the original Cartel warnings. So which of you guys are willing to do the recon and report back? Don't we have a couple of guys who like BBFS and a couple of Covid deniers who are willing to explore the zona norte and tell us what is like at ground zero?

It's interesting to read all of this news of the violence.
Just the last few weeks the LA Times the New York Times both were running stories on how so many Americans who are remote working digital nomads were living in Mexico and enjoying the lower costs of living.
This is a reminder that nothing is free. You just pay another way. Wonder how those articles would read today.
I feel so bad for the innocent people of Mexico having to deal with this nonsense. They deserve better.

Posts: 657I'm not worried because I for one, welcome our New Cartel Overlords! LOL
Remember, the activity in Tijuana setting cars or buildings on fire is Mostly Peaceful Protesting! Just like in Portland or Seattle or Minneapolis during the BLM riots. Oops Mostly Peaceful Protesting! Nothing to worry about!
If you feel danger from cartel dudes, yell out "Cartel Lives Matter!" Then you'll be in like Flynn! LOL.

TIJUANA (Border Report) — The two men who ran a Facebook page known as "Tijuana 664" were murdered Saturday night outside the home they shared in the Tijuana neighborhood of Cañóand El Rubí.
Both men were shot and killed, according to Baja California state investigators, who identified the victims only by their first names: Sergio, 40, and Mario, 43.
Their Facebook postings were anonymous, and the entries often included gossip, rumors and copies of stories from sources within mainstream media.
And they were known for posting gory details of violent crimes in Tijuana.
Neither Sergio nor Mario were considered journalists and reporters south of the border said they did not take their Facebook page seriously.
"These kinds of pages, and the people behind them, are putting us at risk," Sonia de Anda told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
De Anda is a veteran reporter in Tijuana who runs the news site Esquina 32.
Investigators believe the victims were murdered because they were publishing information about drug cartels.
They say no one has been arrested in connection with the murders.
Tijuana 664 had about 17,000 followers on Facebook; 664 is Tijuana's telephone area code in Mexico.

Posts: 2420Friday night, they torched a mini-SUV on the bridge that the HK limo usually takes to the border at about 7 pm. The smoldering thing was still sitting there on the bridge at 10 pm when I went by. They also torched another in a location where there was a street sign to Plaza Rio / border. This one was on Tijuana TV. The Sentri line back to the border was the longest I have ever seen. And I have never seen so many cars with Mexico plates crossing the border before. I think all Mexicans with a passport scrambled their asses to get out of Tijuana just in case this terrorism act blows up into a hot shooting war like in the past.
And they torched another car by the soccer stadium. So this morning, I contacted a couple of favorites but they were too scared to come to work. Anyone knows the status of the bars as of Saturday?
It is shitty writing, but it seems that the Cartel will lift the curfew 3 a Sunday. So that is Saturday-Sunday? Or is it Sunday-Monday?

Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, seem to make it work for them. Albeit with a few kinks along the way.
Why fight when you can join? I don't see other alternatives at this point. That opportunity (if there was one) has been long gone. The cartels are as ENDEMIC to Mexico as is Covid at this point.
Just thinking outside the box.
