I rarely see any CHP between on I-5 when I head down to Tijuana & back from Pt Loma. Sometimes I will see National city PD pull people over in between National City and Chula Vista. Also see some CHP by Chula Vista sometimes. I don't drink so they don't concern me much.

They go up and down looking for DUI they know lots of guys party late in Tijuana so expect to see them late night that's their job.

Sometimes you can also see the occasional CBP with the lights on pulling over a car.

I never encountered a check point on the 5 as far north OC.

Just don't DUI and you got nothing to worry its not worth it and is dangerous for the rest of us.

I don't drive on Fri / Sat night. That's why I am asking.

OC to Tijuana is a weekly trip.

Either day or night, there is more CHP activity on the 805 after the 5 split possibly due to more issues on the 805 (see link below). The average cost of a speeding ticket from start to finish is $535.00 to keep it off of your DMV record (that includes traffic school).

I am a fanboy of radar / laser detectors. They work. Having some type of electronics is a must for "Fury Road" drivers. I invested in the pastport 9500 ci. The return on investment was four months after install. This type of investment is not for everyone. The CHP operate mostly on Ka band. Street cops use laser. Some CHP use both. See link below.

    Refusing the breath alcohol test

    http://dui.drivinglaws.org/resources...california.htm#.

If cops suspect you for DUI and pull you over, it does not help, but could more likely harm, if you refuse to take the breath test.

The cops can just book you into jail and require blood or [CodeWord109] test. They can also go to court and tell the judge that you appeared drunk, based on their professional judgement, and you would likely be convicted.

In my case, the 2 cops were anxious to throw me in jail and impound my car, but the breath test proved I was not legally intoxicated. 3 beers of 36 Ozs or 1.1 L, with 12% alcohol, divided by my average blood volume of 4. 5 L, would be 0. 028%, way below the legal intoxication limit. I could have up to 8 beers and still stay legal. BTW I probably have a fast metabolism. Most of the beer just went through me fast and got peed out in the bar. CHP breath test showed 0. 036% 2 hours after drinking. So their test was biased against the suspect.

The lesson is, It's much safer and more responsible to spend the night in Tijuana, drinking, flirting and having sex with your sweethearts. Just leave the freeway for exclusive use by timid, church-going grand mas.

    Your distinct advantage

    Can't argue with you.

You have a distinct advantage. Your Oldsmobile Phord could never go faster than 60 MPH, and sometimes your dates / wingwomen had to help you push it off the freeway. I heard that was one of the reasons cited in your divorce case.

    CHP patrol areas

At night CHP patrols all along 5 and 805 from the border North, up to Camp Pendleton, with concentration around the merging area of the 2 freeways.

Just last month alone, I had a moto cop follow me for 5 miles at my 4 o'clock, waiting to bust me. Then when I stopped near camp Pendleton to take a leak, a CHP SUV immediately showed up with 2 cops in it. It may be the same 2 guys who busted me this time in Chula Vista.

They asked again and again where I came from, what bars I went to, how many drinks, where I was going to etc. I finally admitted to have come from Tijuana, visiting friends, going to bars, had 2 beers. They acted like they knew it all along. CHP and CBP guys do go to Tijuana bars. A HK girl with big fake boobs and fake butt, Jessica, married a CHP guy but left him after a year, and came back to work in HK. He was probably an abusive bully with erectile dysfunction and must have spent lots of money on fichas for her. I guess he stopped buying fichas after the wedding. That was why she went back to work in HK. Hehe.

They target all aggressive drivers, not just mongers. There are lots of bad drivers and it's easy to see at night. Traffic was medium. I was not even aggressive, just going fast. They said I flew past them so fast I blew the doors off their SUV. They were probably lying as I did not see their big black and white SUV. CHP probably employs spotters driving unmarked cars and call in targets on radios for bust. They said I was going at 86, then the ticket was written for 84.

I know an attorney in San Diego who can drag the case out in court, until both officers get fired for abusing teen-age prostitutes. Hehe.

This time Porkies claimed to smell alcohol and subjected him to a full-blown sobriety test. Porkies were lying out of their asses, as they decided to pull El Capitan into a huge parking lot off the freeway for the long, drawn-out 20-minute test, even before smelling his butt.

Looked like Porkies were very happy to catch and book the bandit, but El Capitan passed the test with flying colors, even though he was a little shaky standing on his left foot, counting forward and backward for 30 seconds, and slightly wobbly on the long toe to heel walk on a straight line. He had 3 beers in the preceding 3 hours; breath test registered 0. 036% alcohol content. Porkies were very disappointed but they had to let him go with just a speeding ticket.

Looks like Freeway 805 Northbound has a lot more CHPs than freeway 5. Almost never saw any CHP action on FWY 5. Meanwhile there were other boneheads driving extremely aggressively in their huge SUVs, JEEPS and pick up trucks, who went unmolested. There were 3 accidents on the freeway on the way back.

Driving back at night after drinking in the club has very high risk of DUI and other traffic tickets, not to mention severe injuries in accidents. It's very difficult to spot CHP and avoid them at night, but inversely very easy for them to spot fast, aggressive drivers. El Capitan was accused of blowing the doors off CHP's patrol car as he flew by and he did not even know it.

Just a heads up to the bros. After a night of drinking and cavorting, it may be more prudent to sleep off the alcohol and fatigue in Tijuana. Hotel Leyva is only $22 a night, nice, clean and quiet enough, with possibilities of more sex in the morning before heading North.
Shit that sucks too many LEO at night they are targetting mongers returning late from Tijuana like you said sleep in Tijuana get completly clean just grab a mint and keep your breath fresh and don't forget to smile good evening officer what a beautiful moon tonight!

The old SENTRI lane, which is now the exclusive bus lane, was open, but most time closed or jammed up with a line of buses waiting to cross the border. Taxis used to drive up that lane and drop off passengers at the foot bridge. Now it's closed for buses only. Sometimes there is a policia with a saw horse blocking the street.

That's the dark street on which you would walk with the park on your right hand side, BUS and SENTRI lanes on your left, under the taxi bridge, towards the giant TV screen, to PED EAST. It's dark, deserted and scary at night. There are homeless people living and sleeping in that park at night; a good place for rateros to ambush tourists.

The get on PED WEST, you have to walk into the friendship plaza behind the McDonalds on the WEST side of freeway 5, very dark and deserted at night, no less scary.

At night it may be safer to walk among the cars on ready lanes. There are always drivers waiting in line all night, less likely for assaults and robberies to happen. Tell the cabbies to drop you off at the medico lane used by ambulances with the small policia guard post, which is on the high point over the Tijuana river, mid way to the Caliente drop off point. Walk 500 feet down hill, head for that giant TV screen, and you are at the entrance to PED EAST. That's the shortest path and least work.
Captain are you trying to scare the living hell out of me because you did a good job at it LOL.

    Happy halloween to you too!
