Ya. Sometimes I drive over, sometimes I don't.

When I don't I park for a week for like $60 a bit north, and trolly down. And I've never had a problem with a taxi driver. I think that's a bit overblown.

If I bring 20 ivermectin and 20 hydroxycholorquine pills with me, what kind of treatment should I expect at the border?

    1) border agents will put me in jail.

    2) border agents can't care less.

If you need a script in the US, and don't have one from the US. Then yes.

You won't go to Jail, but. Future trips will get harder to return home cleanly.

    Got horse worms?

There's a link a few posts down that shows on maps where to get it.

I don't think you need to be staying at cascadas to take the shuttle--it has zona norte written on it with all the club logos so I think it probably drops people off at those hotels / clubs. Just tell the valet guy.

Declare this, and any other meds, and you'll be fine. You can bring something like a 30 day supply of any meds besides controlled substances, as long as they are declared.

Yup, the best thing to do as a first timer is to park on state side and walk across. There's plenty of parking on state side. Assuming you're a US citizen and you're going to stay less than 7 days, do yourself a favor and fill out the FMM online, print and take with you. Haven't been hassled for a fee for crossing doing it this method. Online form here:

Once you cross the border, HK's limo or uber is best. I've had crappy phone reception as soon as I cross the border, so I usually take the limo since I can't use my phone to get an uber. It's a "free" ride but a tip is expected from the driver. Should you be the only passenger, give them $5-7 bucks, if it's a group of people on the ride, you can give them less. Getting to the HK Limo queue here:

When you're checking out of Cascadas, ask for a ride back. They'll give you a business card size ticket to get a free ride back. Again, a tip is expected. Or you can do Uber back using the WiFi in the hotel. Up to you on preference. Hope this helps.
Do you need to have a room at cascades to take the limo?

    Tsfh14 ,

The Dood's below gave great advice. Plus I agree Gateway Parking (behind Jack and Box) is very reputable. I want to add:

Visualize The Arch (Arco) - that is the big aluminum Arch on Revolution that is near where the Zona is. IF YOU GET LOST or loose your sense of boundaries; use the Arch as your Home Base. Hong Kong bar is just down west of this Arch and also Revolution is the main safest street for tourists and non mongering stuff.

Choosing a Taxi Right in Front of the Big 3 clubs (HK, Adilitas and Chicago Club) is probably safest since they pay $$ to sit there. But I would take an Uber myself. I have never taken the HK Limo. But it is indeed reputable and safe. For Uber. Verizon has free Mexico coverage and at least for me reception is decent.

Since it is your first time please please please have a Sacrifice wad of Singles! $1. 00 bills! Tips (Propinas) or low denomination money goes a long way. You don't want to go through your wallet of $100's, $20's and $50's in front of most people down there. Take plenty of Singles for the ladies and street food. Don't flaunt see-notes.

Hope that is not too obvious! Have fun!

Parking is free at trolley stops along freeway 5, but only for 24 hours. After 24 hours your car may be towed.

Cheapest parking is behind jack in box, at the South end of Blvd San San Ysidro, $23 per 8 hours.

Follow the crowd to walk South behind the McDonald to cross into Mexico. Latest news Mex Imm no longer extorts $30 visitor permit. Just show them your passport and stay cool.

After exiting Mex Imm building, follow the crowd South to the taxi stand. Along this path is HK's small office with its limo. It's safest to sit there and wait for limo pickup. Next safest option is to walk beyond the taxi stand and book UBER. On the way back, ride HK's limousine back to that taxi stand and walk North to border.

Safety risks in Tijuana are exaggerated, Unless you piss off the cartels, they would not waste bullets on you and buy more heat for themselves. The bar block between Hong Kong, Adelita, Chicago, Tropical and the alley has lots of security cameras and people day and night, pretty safe. Just stay away from drug dealers near and across the alley from HK's back door, also on Ave. Constitucion in front of hotel Rapido, just in case they start shooting each other.

I've been around Mexico as well but never Tijuana. But that changes this weekend. However, reading the forum and the news the past couple weeks has made me a little uneasy. I plan on only partaking in drinks, food and hobbying, drugs do not interest me. I have a room at Cascadas already booked and plan to just spend time in HK and maybe Adelitas.

My question is: what is the safest way in and out? I want to minimize my time exposed to crazies or potentially unsavory cabbies or locals. My thought was:

-park near border / or take tram to border.

-walk across w / some extra cash on hand in case a border agent eyes me funny.

-grab an UBER or? Maybe the HK VIP limo?? Would this be the safest way? The thought of getting a cab makes me nervous to be honest.

-uber vs limo back to border to US.

Thanks in advance from this old gringo.
