You might want to look at houses on base at Subic as well. Very secure, close enough to AC for fun and the ocean makes it, for me anyway, a far better choice for full time living.

I will be there looking at homes in September. If this is not too late for you, I will be happy to share the info.

While AC has a decent nightlight, it is super boring during the day time. I would like to live close to the beach. While I was there I saw a show on properties that are around the PI, unfortunately I forgot the website name.

Sounds like AC is best for you. It is only 2 hours by bus from Manila now that the highway is complete. Also there are so many expats living in AC you should be quite safe. Further, AC is cheap and also has a great low cost nightlife! You should go there and talk to the expats who live there. They will give you the information inside track and will probably know what is available.

House Hunting! I want to look around the Manila area for a house or condo to rent. Not right in Manila but within maybe a half days drive. I think I would like a gated communiyt that caters to ex-pats. They don't have to be Americans but I do want the added security.

I will only have a couple weeks this next trip and I don't know anyone there so how do I get started? Should I be talking to real estate agents? If I don't find anything I like near Manila I will check out another area next trip - maybe Cebu or Daveo. I am at a loss how to proceed.

I am going to post this in four groups: Living in the Philippines, Manila, Makati and Angeles City.

Didnt mean to make your blood boil and it was probably not a good idea to post it here. This is the last I will ever say anything about politics here. The point is though, if your going to participate and send people to Iraq then you know there are risks and something like this could happen. What was the point in making the decision to go in the first place if you are going to cut and run at the first problem? Its sets a horrible precedent and its two victories the terrorists can claim now and they will be sure to blackmail other countries the same way. The world is either going to stand up to this crap totally or we are going to lose. The war was a bad idea, but whats done is done and we have to see it through and the Philippines should have stayed the course and not stab us in the back. Dont be surprised if Abu Sayef starts threatending to chop off heads in the future if demands are not met.

I'd like to propose to the MODS to have a ban on all politics-related posts. Politics detracts from the point of this board and the great info it provides to members in the pursuit of one thing: FUN.

Theres a recent political comment made below that makes my blood boil but it would serve no purpose to respond to it - and would only lead to a spiral of posts of opposing opinion. I think this could only detract from the board.

Not to belittle your post, because it is a valuable lesson for the newbies, but variations of this situation could be told dozens of times a day. You handled it perfectly. You showed your compassion, yet didn't get roped in.

Nov/Dec is perfect in terms of weather. It is high season. In years past this could mean lots of fellow mongers. But probably not an issue these days. The girls will be hungry for their "Christmas bonus". As the holiday draws near, many of the girls head back to their home provinces. So the longer into December you stay, the worse the selection will be.
