Had a feeling it was illegal. Do concur with PT that I was never even offered anything other than girls for bonking.

Sharka and I were in SR together and not once were we offered anything except trips to Angkor and girls. Must be which drivers you encounter. I've been to SR twice now and was never offered at anytime to me.
But I also never asked as I no longer smoke.

Outside of ordering a happy pizza at one of the pizza places along the street just around the corner from Pub Street, I wouldn't risk it. Just my opinion. The Happy Pizza may give you a buzz, though the time I tried it that's all it was and not a terribly good one. Certainly not good enough to want to do it again.

You can pay for things in US$. ATM machines dispense US $. Local currency, Riel, is used for transportation, local street food vendors, local markets, etc. 1000 Riel = $0.25 so if something is $4.50 and you pay $5, you'll get 2000 Riel back as change. If you're at a market and something is 3000 Riel and you give them $1, they'll give you 1000 Riel back.

You don't need to make change for Riel, you can get some when you go eat at restaurants or go shopping.

Try to break big bills ($20, $50, and even $10) at hotels, restaurants, bigger companies, etc, so you can use the $1 (and $5) for your transportation and buying food from street vendors.

Almost everything is paid (and listed) in US dollars. If you have some local riels, good for using mototaxi and tips then also could use but heard its being phased out and only US dollars will be used in near future.

    3 Nights in SR

Had a quick trip to SR to look at Angkor. The place is amazing, can't imagine what it would have been like to be bushwacking through the jungle and come across it. "Is this the train station?"

Stayed at the Mandalay Inn which was nice, AC, hot water and cable TV for $16 a night. Very friendly and helpful staff. The tuk-tuk guy they have, Mr Yan, was great too. Sign says "Don't encourage for joiners" but they don't stop them either. Good location, 5 mins to Pub Street, less to the food stalls that pop up at night and the market also.

First night there ate at Temple Bar, if you go there around 8.30 and sit near the door you can check out the goings on in the street and the ladies coming in. Noted for another night. As I had a 5am start for sunrise I decided to find Blue Wave and have an easy night, and followed the directions given here by Fergie1. Easy to find, head north of Sivatha until you reach Achar Mean St - there is a petrol station on the SW corner, Hotel De La Paix on the NW corner and a KFC up the street a little on the NE side. Turn left, walk about 50m and you'll see it. Empty bar, 4 ladies straight at me so retired to a cubicle with 1 either side kissing and grabbing. Not super hot but OK. They were massaging, I told them I'd already had massage today, and got told they have "massage room" in the back. Asked what kind of massage, they said "Khmer massage, no Vietnamese massage" so the "Khmer's don't do BJ" line seems to stand.

Decided on 1, didn't quite catch her name, not very much english, wearing some kind of hotpants with no knickers and asked the rest to leave us in peace. After more kissing and fondling, paid the bar man $20 + $4 for 2 beers and went to the room. Showered, more kissing and then gave her a bit of a tounge-lashing that had her pushing against my face and rubbing while she came. She returned the favour with a BBBJ (so I guess the no BJ is only the public line) then covered up and fucked with some AF for her, but only up to the first knuckle. Afterwards shower together again and get well soaped up, some more kissing, tipped her about $10 (I think, may have been a bit less) and went home to get a good sleep.

Next day templing all day left me knackered (it gets bloody hot out there) so just went for dinner and a few beers at the irish pub on the corner of Pub Street and Sivatha. Another good place to watch the world go by and check out the girls, you can't miss them if you have half an idea of what you're looking for and if you give them a wink I'm sure you could pick them up then and there. Chatted with a cute waitress then headed home.

3rd day slept late then headed out for a massage, tried to find the moto guy who'd been pestering me to go to a chicken farm the night before (kind of arranged to meet him where he hung out but he wasn't around at the designated time) so missed out on that one. Happy Khmer Pizza - don't get "happy" pizza unless you have no plans for the next few hours. That night went to Temple Bar again and sat a bit closer to the pool tables to see the girls coming in and they check you out too. 1 caught my eye and I mouthed hello as she headed to the bar, after getting a drink she came back and sat down. We chatted a bit then moved up to the bar to play some pool. Fun girl, name was "Chita" (Sichita?), 5ft and a bit, small and very hot, good English, said she was half Khmer half Thai. Had a great time with her playing pool and meeting her friends (I'm pretty sure I met RaNG's "Normass", she is dumb but not deaf from what I understand, and she was very bubbly and friendly and pretty cute). Plenty of other girls giving me the eye when Chita was taking her shot, she got a bit shitty later when I went to the toilet and bought "Normass" a coke on the way back, guess she thought she was losing me but she got over it quick enough. Anyway we left and walked back to the GH, stopping at Zanzybar on the way for another beer, which was pretty dead (it was late, maybe 2am or more). Got her back to the room, DATY and fingering for a long while (amazing stomach muscles when she comes, and noisy too, paid back the neighbours for slamming doors at 5am the morning before), BBBJ and covered sex plus again on waking up. $40 in the morning (she asked for a tip, so gave her the rest of my duty free cigarettes as I was flying out - she was a smoker), she left about 10am because I had to go but I'm sure would have stayed longer.

Sorry didn't get to do any exploring around Zone 1 etc, would have been good to find the chicken farm guy and see what he had to offer so I could report. Next time maybe.

All in all SR is a fun place, although I'm sure I'd get tourist overload in the high season, good cheap food and beer, and opportunities for mongering. The $1 kids could get on your nerves but if you be polite and chat with them a bit they can come up with some funny lines - a couple made me crack up. Massages are also good and cheap (Blue7 had a good Khmer massage, thought something might be on when she closed the door to the room after having it open for the first half hour but alas...). 1 massage lady asked me if I was married (no), have girlfriend (no), can I be your girlfriend (I am leaving tomorrow, want to come with me?) I don't have passport (you can be my girlfriend just for tonight if you want) giggle.

    Stew,

I also read the article very nice picture of the city, I hope that will bring more tourist and dollar to Siem Reap, I heard tourist is down because of the bad enconomy, the people here can only survive from the tourist dollar.

Also worth a download for those seriously interested is the official archeological guide. It's in pdf and when you print it out it's about 2 to 3 inches thick so you need a lot of paper. I find it a relaxing read, a chapter or so each night. It throws a lot of light on the stuff that looked so cool when you visited.

btw do you have a link for the NG article? I can't seem to get in without a subscription.

    Blue Wave bar

I recently returned from Siem Reap. I tried a few of the many massage parlors on the main drag but while the massage was good none offered any extras. I decided to tray out the Blue Wave Bar which is lcaoted on the side street to the lef tof the Hotel de la Paix. Easy to find. It was a Thursday night about 10pm and was definitely ready for some action. When I arrived at the bar there were no other customers. It was very dark inside so couldn't get a good feel for tghe palce but it was certainly spacious with a long bar with stools and some cosier cubicles along one wall.

I took a seat at the bar and was immediately joined by three women, two of whom should ahve thought about retiring and another younhger one with a great smile. She could have done with losing a couple of kilos but was dead sexy anyway. I bought her a drink and we moved to one of the cubicles. The conversation was pleasnt even though her English was nsot too good. She ttold me she was 24 and from Kompong Chang province. Before long she was caressing my thigh and kissing me lightly on the lips. After a few minutes she was kissingme deeply and had her hand buried beweeen my legs.

She asked if I wanted to take a room. The bar is connected to a guest house next door. I paid the barman $20 and we went to the room, which was clean, if simple. We both showered and with her clothes off she was extremely attractive with a lovely pair of breasts. She was highly enthusiastic and left no part of my body unexplored. A fabulous kisser. Very erotic. She raelly got into it. Afterwards we lay about a bit and it was a real GFE experience. I gave her a $10 tip which she seemed very happy with. We had another drink at the bar and then I left, I would certainly have returned the following night but had to leave for PP. There was one other customer in the bar as I headed for the street. I'd reccommend this place for its convenient location and the fact that it is attached to a guesthouse.
