Not sure if St. Maarten can sustain all of its clubs, but this venue always had potential to be really good. Maybe someone will refurbish and reopen. It was mostly DR girls and on the way to Sunset Retreat and Casablanca. Always bring your alpha dog game to the DR dominated clubs. You can have a great time with them.

Posts: 282Walking to / between Clubs
Years ago when I stayed at the Caribbean Hotel in downtown Philipsburg, I walked to LE Petit Chateau. And then on to Carolina's. It was main road, and although a bit dark I got through unscathed. Not sure if I would pull that off now. Regarding walking between clubs. Crystals is right across the street from Carolinas. I would always bop between the two. With a beer bought from either place. I believe now, you can't bring a beer into Crystals. Guess they got wise to guys leaving Carolinas and ducking in with beer in hand, and staying for a bit, without buying.
You can walk down the driveway / road from El Capitan to Hypnotic. Although you'll pass some fairly run down apartments on the left hand side (and the body of a Camaro or Vette that's been up on blocks for years) and the occasion stray dog. Best to drive from the lot of El Cap and pull into the dusty lot of Hypnotic.
Now the danger zone. And you can get a sense of it best, when you visit Hypnotic during the day from the parking lot. From the Hypnotic parking lot, you can see Carolinas from a distance. There is a path through high grass. Almost shoulder height high that wanders from Hypnotic to Arch Road. It's used by locals quite frequently, but here's the rub. There have been "ambush" scenarios that have occurred during the day on the path with bandits lurking in the grass that have robbed guys making the trek from Carolinas over to Hypnotic. Since it's off the beaten path (no pun intended) and pretty well hidden by the almost cornstalk high grass, you're fair prey for anyone looking to put a machete in front of your face.
Bottom line. Aside from crossing the street from Carolinas to Crystals and back and forth. Drive to all clubs and try to park as close as possible to the entrance. Avoid going deep down the side of Carolinas to park. Past the building toward the local neighborhood. Amazingly, the scariest parking lot of Sunset Retreat might be the safest, since the club is so remote. A would be problem would have to walk a long way to get there.
Also, sad to read that Defiance is closed. I had some memorable experiences there and met some gems back in the day. Maybe they'll breathe some life back into it some day. The club was more a favorite among the locals. But those of us intimate with SXM knew it well!

Posts: 2040It is safe to walk ON THE ROAD to the clubs in the daytime. However a car is so cheap for a couple of days, why not rent one?
The taxis are not cheap. Also do not take the shortcut from Carolinas across the path to Hypnotique in the grass at any time.

Posts: 9Smartphone Data service on island.
So, I depend on my Samsung Note, and not as much my AT&T (LOL) service here in the USA as I use maps and google searches a lot.
I'd like to be able to do so while riding around the island.
Any feedback on the best route to take?
Again, I'm not as much a "making phone calls" user but a data for maps and searches kind of guy.
I recall reading that being able to do so, on either side of the island, is spotty at best.
I'm sure I can "re-group" in a McDonald's during the day as hopefully they have free WiFi but would prefer to get my maps and do my searches while on the run.
Thanks again.

How is the safety in those clubs and around the Dutch side late night? Heard of some people getting beat up and robbed at gunpoint.
What are the rates to the girl home for the night?

Crystal's is just across Soualiga Road from Carolina's.
If you continue on Soualiga Road to Arch Rd. , make a right and then a left on Suckergarden Rd. - El Capitan is a block up on the left. It's behind a wall, but well marked, at the corner with Umbrella Cactus Rd. (light green roof on Google maps). If you continue down Umbrella Cactus Rd. , you'll dead-end at Hypnotique (formerly known as Seaman's). Dark blue roof on Google maps.
Taking Suckergarden Road out from Philipsburg is an alternate route.
With this and Google maps, you really can't go wrong. Everyone says not to try to walk from Carolina's and Hypnotique. I'd take their word for it.
I"m not aware of any of them having websites. I tend to like more European-looking Columbianas, so I'd rate them in the following order: Carolina's, Hypnotique, El Capitan, La Petite Chateau, Crystals (I've never seen more than 3-4 girls in there at a time, and never took one back). I've met some cute Dominicans at LPC, but the last time we were there it was packed with local guys. We didn't have any problems, but we stood out in a way that was uncomfortable.

Posts: 3Addresses and possibly websites?
Hello everyone,
I will be going right after New Years eve, could you please let us know which clubs are still in business, the address of those clubs and possibly websites if they have any? Could you also rate them? I have been reading your posts (extremely helpful BTW) but can't find any addresses anywhere on here or on Google.
