On my first trip to Sint Maarten I decided to find some of the brothels mentioned on this board. I was somewhat successful in locating most of the establishments, but became a little confused when trying to find certain places. This report will deal with the location of the brothels in relation to each other, and will hopefully help clarify any confusion other readers may have found. Or perhaps it will only add more confusion. All of the distances mention here are in kilometers (km), since that is what the odometer in my rental car measured. All of the brothels are located on the Dutch side in the southeastern part of the Island, and all are within about 6 or 7 km of each other. I am told that on the French side there are woman available in certain “discos”, but you will need to pay for a hotel room.

    Le Petit Château:
This place is located closest to the town of Phillipsburg. It is not on a main road, but on a manmade causeway that extends across the Salt Pond north of town. Directions: Find the traffic light (possibly the only one in Phillipsburg) on Pondfill Road where the Police Station and Government Administration Building are on the Phillipsburg side of the road and the University of St. Martin is on the causeway. Pondfill Road is the road on the north side of town adjacent to and running parallel to the Salt Pond. Your tourist map may list this road as Walter Nisbeth Road. From this light turn onto the causeway, toward the university. The word “UNIVERSITY” is spelled out in three-foot high letters on the ground, and can be seen on the right as you enter the causeway. The beginning of this road is paved, but will turn to dirt and gravel about half way to Le Petit. From the traffic light, Le Petit is 0.4 km. You will pass the Little League Stadium on your right, and you will find Le Petit on your left a little further ahead. I visited this place three times, but only found something I liked on my last trip. The rooms provided here are as clean as most of the other place that I visited. As mentioned elsewhere, mostly locals use this place.

    Seaman’s:
This is a very popular place and easy to locate. Directions: From the traffic light mentioned above continue east to the edge of the Salt Pond (about 0.4 km) where you can turn left (north). Although there is no street sign here, the road is commonly called “Suckergarden” Road. Travel north about 1.4 km to Seaman’s. On your way there you will pass a Shell gas station on your left, and pass by numerous houses and buildings. Continue pass the sign welcoming you to the town of Suckergarden and also drive past the signs pointing to St. Martin Park. Just beyond Arch Road, you will find Seaman’s on your left. As mentioned in someone else’s report, Seaman’s is set back from the road and enclosed in a ten foot high wire fence, and looks a little like a Used Car lot with its string of lights. Many tourist visit Seaman’s, and I found the girls here better looking than those in any of the other bars that I visited. The rooms are adequate, and there is some interesting artwork in the hallway leading to the rooms that you may want to view if you’re into that type of thing. It is unlikely, but you may hear some local refer to “The Japanese Place”. If you do, they are referring to Seaman’s. The story I heard was that sometime in the past the place was frequented by many Japanese, so the locals began calling it by that name. Today, crewmembers off the cruise ships come into Seaman’s while they’re in port. The place is decorated with nautical items that give it some character.

    Defiance/Kappers:
The next bar is locater 1.5 km north of Seaman’s on the same road. That is to say Suckergarden Road. On the way there you will be traveling mostly uphill, and will be passing by many houses and buildings. Be careful, the roads are fairly narrow and very winding. It would be a bad idea to drive these roads while under the influence. Defiance is located at the top of a hill and you will come upon it very rapidly because it is located around a right bend in the road. Just before you get to the top of the hill, you will see a self-service carwash on the left. At first I thought it was a gas station. You are then suddenly on the top of the hill and Defiance is on your right. On the outside there is not a sign saying “Defiance”; however, there is a small sign on the outside of the complex that reads “Kappers”. Kappers is actually a small café within the complex, but not attached to the bar. The complex is enclosed within a stonewall, and you must drive through the arched entrance. Park inside the courtyard, and you will see a two-story building where the club is located, and a building in the back left side that was once a hotel. The second floor above the club was used as dance hall called the “Crystal Club”, and the sign is still on the entranceway. You need to walk up a set of stairs on the right and enter through a set of double doors. Many non-locals visit this place and I found the selection of girls to be good. I believe that the Defiance was once a hotel where mongers could pay to stay on the premises. I wonder if this is still possible? The rooms here are quite clean.

    Sunset Retreat:
Leaving Defiance and turning left back onto the major road (Suckergarden) it will be another 1.5 km to the next brothel/bar. As soon as you leave Defiance heading north, you start to go down hill. You are traveling toward Oyster Pond and Dawn Beach, and should follow the signs leading in that direction. Stay on the main road. Do not turn off. After a short distance you will enter an area void of any buildings and you will pass through some pasturelands. When you have traveled the 1.5 km from Defiance you will see a yellow colored building sitting on a ridge adjacent to and on the right side of the road. There is a stonewall surrounding the ridge that the building sits on. You will also see a billboard with a woman and the words “Sunset Retreat”. You will also see what appears to be a narrow driveway leading up the right side of the building. Do not drive up this road. The parking lot for Sunset Retreat is located just past the billboard on the left side of the road, and when you are in the parking lot you will see a stairway leading up to the bar. I visited this place only once, and I found an attractive companion, but she had an attitude that I could have done without. The place also seems to be popular with locals. There is one more piece of important information regarding the name of this place. I understand that the owner’s name is Angel Priest, and I heard more than one local refer this place as “Angel Priest”.

    Casa Blanca/Border Bar
This seems to be the most talked about place on this island. It is located only 0.5 km further north on the road to Oyster Pond. This is still the same road you started out on in Phillipsburg. In fact, if you reach Oyster Pond you’ve gone too far. I think it was said that you couldn’t miss seeing this place. Well, I missed it. As reported, it’s a large white building that sits back from the road and also well above the road, with the words “Casa Blanca” written on it’s side in large red letters. I missed it because I was paying close attention to where I was going and not looking around. If you approached it from the French side (heading south) it would be difficult not to see. Casa Blanca and Border Bar have been reported as separate bars, but both a taxi driver and the security guard in the parking lot told me that Casa Blanco is also known as the Border Bar because it’s almost on the border with the French side. Standing in their parking lot you can see the border at the bottom of the hill. If someone knows otherwise, place inform us. I visited this place three or four times from late afternoon to midnight over a three-day period, but never found someone I desired. This surprised me due to all the good things I had read about the place. They do have a restaurant within, and it seems very clean. The only other thing I can report about Casa Blanca is that both locals and non-locals patronize this place.

    714
This is a small brothel/bar located very close to Seaman’s. A taxi driver showed this place to me. Directions from Seaman’s: When leaving Seaman’s turn right toward Phillipsburg and go to Arch road (0.1 km) and make a right turn. Go down Arch Road for about 0.3 km and make a left hand turn. There is a market and bar on the left corner called “New Era”. Just as you make the turn you should see the 714 about fifty feet ahead of you on the right side. 714 is a single story orange colored building with a green roof. The number 714 is on the side of the building in large numbers. Locals mostly patronize this place, but a few of the patrons were non-locals. I found a couple of cuties here and decided to allow one of them to take me into one of the back rooms. Unfortunately, the room was a disgusting dump. I’ve only seen such filth in a few Mexican border brothels. Because of the condition of the rooms, I do not recommend this place.

    Unknown Place
While investigating 714, I noticed what appeared to be an eatery in the building across the street. The right portion of the building is two stories, and the left portion is single story. The right side has glass windows on both floors, and the left has a stone finish. The restaurant is on the right side of the building that can be entered through a double glass door. I did not notice any signs in the window; however, it is a restaurant because they served me. On the left side of the building is a salon. In front of the building, in the center, you'll see another door and a water fountain with a child holding a water jar. To the left of the fountain you’ll see another door. Use this door to enter both the salon and the disco. In other words, the disco is inside the building between the restaurant and the salon. The only other clients in the restaurant while I was there were four Latin women that looked by the way they dressed like prostitutes. I then heard loud “disco” music coming from a room adjacent to the room I was in, and decided to see what was in there. I discovered that the room was a disco, and was told that things in there really did not start until after 11:00 PM. Later the evening I re-entered the disco, but found only about two girls and about four guys inside. It is your typical disco with the loud music, dance floor, and the rotating colored lights. There is also a small bar. The bouncer invited me to sit down, but I told him that I was only there to take a look around. Hearing that, he offered to take me on a tour of the place. After briefly showing me the small disco, he invited me to view the back rooms and explained that the girls here were available. In the back, there is another small bar with couches. A little further back in the building are the girl’s rooms. The one I saw was in somewhat better shape than those I had seen in other places. Because there were not many girls there when I visited, and because I got the impression by the nicely decorated disco, back bar, and rooms that the prices there would be “too” high, I decided not to stay. I then tipped the bouncer and went on my way. However, I do hope that some adventurous *****monger will investigate this place further and give us a report. By the way, the bouncer’s name was Tony. He told me that the name of the place is ”Crystal Club” and that it had only been opened for about a month. What the relationship between the place named “Club Crystal” located above the Defiance bar and this disco is unknown to me. Maybe it has just been relocated.
714 and Unknown are located at the northern end of the casueway that I mentioned above. If you drive south pass 714 and Unknown on to the dirt road and through the landfill, you will reach Le Petit in about three or four minutes. The first time you try this should be during daylight hours only.

Hi to any St Maarten visitors,

I have been marooned here for a few weeks on and off, and I have found the quality of the girls a the seaman's club has improved with a recent bunch of Columbian girls, mostly willing to please and certainly pretty, can say I have had a few pleasurable moments there, amazingly this place is open from about (9am to 2am) how anyone can face it at 9am amazes me, but there you go. a lot of the guys there are filipinos off the cruise ships with little or no maney so when they see a hafl decent looking guy who may have more that $10 in his pocket, you get a better choice.

$40 seems to get you a good time the place is Ok and reasonably clean.

If anyone has got updates on anyother spot in St Maarten or other islands please post, some of us are stuck in the caribbean all winter, and on the other islands the pussy is thin on the ground.

    Capt Nemo.
