I have mongered alone in St. Maarten many times. Afternoon and night. Never a problem until my last couple of trips. I wrote previously about the gang of teenagers that attempted to harrass me as I walked to my car beyond the Carolina parking lot on the right side of the building late one night (a new road and housing development in that area). And last time, when I was at Empire and confronted with "attitude" trying to exit the club. Also late. Having been to all of these clubs many times, I have drawn the conclusion that I should monger only in the daytime or early evening. I have ruled out going to Sunset Retreat or Casablanca because of remoteness and no daytime activity. I have not ruled out going to Empire entirely, but a definite no on Fri-Sat-Sun nights. Talk to the girls about what nights are calm, and go early. If the parking lot is packed, park outside the arch. If guys are loitering in the parking lot or in front of the doors, don't go in. I am neutral on Petite Chateau at this point. A dark parking lot, but I don't recall trouble there. But the girls there are usually not to my taste, so no big deal. El Capitan, Carolinas and Crystal during the day no problems. At night early, parking usually not a problem. With 50+/- girls between these three clubs, you can decide on a girl, fuck her, have a drink and be out the door in an hour or less. Holds true day or night. I have always done the day-night double header, but at night I will arrive when the clubs first get going around 9 pm Again, I can have my session and out the door by 10. Most trouble comes late at night. Locals start their nights at midnight or later. The locals that used to hang at the clubs were older and never a problem. Had beers with many of them. But in recent years, you are seeing a lot of young, disrespectful locals hanging in or around the clubs. So I think I can still plan to return to St. Maarten with this game plan. However, the disrespectful attitudes, economic hardships, and rising crime does affect the non-club activities as well. And for all the negatives affecting the Dutch side, the French side is worse. The club safety issues are known to me. The other activities around the island and safety going places that used to be non-issues are now issues. All of this has caused me to rethink where to monger this year. I may very well bypass St. Maarten this year. Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, other mongering destinations are seeing upticks in crime and safety concerns.

Although I've always been just like you with an afternoon pop and then an early evening 8:30 -10:30 pop gone are the days of hitting old Seamens at night stumbling out at midnight and partying at Casablanca or Defiance until 2 AM. All solo. Last time I got laid in Casablanca was June 2014. I always loved that place and always drive up every trip since but never get out of the car. If you wanted BBBJCIMNQ Casblanca without haggling or negotiation or only paying a $5 or $10 tip was the place.

Past few years and now definitely after the hurricane I am only hitting Capitan, Crystals and Carolinas. Always with a car and I'm always out of those places before 10:30 PM. Man I miss the old Seamans and Casablanca of yesteryear.

For mongering purposes, Bogota is the best by far. In Bogota you will have way more choice than in SXM of course and a wider range of prices mainly cheaper. However, SXM has it's pro also. SXM has great touristic facilites and great environment in the Caribbean, its also way safer. Another pro for SXM is that the girls are far from home, far from any famiy and relatives, so if you act right you might create the perfect chemistry and receive genuine GFE. In Bogota, the girls need to go back home early in the morning to take care of their kids, have a boyfriend around and so on.

Lived in Colombia since 2002 and have been going to SXM since 1988. For me the best place in the world to be is SXM. However I work over the internet and it drops frequently on the island even when there is not storm or hurricane. So Medellin is my home, no complaints and I monger and travel solo or with a Colombiana to SXM a few times a year.

That being said SXM is all about ease, pleasure and VARIETY. The variety of beaches the variety of food, the duty free booze, cigars, sportsbooks and casinos are all top notch. 6+ quality brothels does't hurt either. And it's safer and a paradise and speaking only English is not really an issue. You can rent a car and do your own thing more or less without constantly looking over your shoulder.

I agree with Routard in that having these girls far away from their homes and problems really loosens them up. In Colombia Bogota (chilly) has the best mongering but the weather is better in Cali (hot) or Medellin (Spring).

Girls from all over Colombia are beautiful but in my experience the girls from Cali are the most easy going, cool, chill and lie less. They go with the flow whereas Paisas and Constenas are more drama, headache and games. YMMV. In Bogota and more so Cartagena the girls travel from all over the country to work in those two places since there is more action to be had from tourists and locals. So In Bogota and Cartagena there are girls from Medellin, Cali and the coast working there. Costenas are more apt to take it up the pooper if that's your thing.

In SXM you get a good mix of Colombianans, Dominicanas a few Jamaicans and Venezuelans. Skinny, fat, natural, boob jobs the whole nine. The two higher end places have stunning European women but they cost more. Good luck.

Routard! It's been a while, hope you're doing well. Next time I'm in Bogota I'll give you a shout. Just a little note to add to Routard's and Mel's posts re: Colombia. I have found that in both Medellin and Bogota using Uber is super easy and safe (in my personal experience anyways). As for the safety of Medellin, I have not noticed it getting any worse lately, at least in my perception, but I haven't done any late night mongering in Colombia so my POV may not be as accurate. In any case, regarding safety anywhere, anything can happen to anyone in any place, but you greatly increase your odds of staying safe by leaving the bling at home, being aware of your surroundings, not being out alone, and generally not being a dick.

I have personally been harassed, walking from the entrance, to the adjacent sports field. The taxi drivers, coke dealers, and normal cast of characters which loiter the entrance will offer little support. Always swearing I'll never go alone again, only failing to heed my own advice. Same with the nighttime walks from Chesterfields in Aruba to the G Spot. Towards the end of the block. They too have have had shootings. Santo Domingo is even worse. Evan a short nighttime walk around the Marriott Jaragua or Crown Plaza is dangerous.

I don't understand why I place myself in these positions, and yet, I believe, many of do. This most recent shooting in SXM occurred in a super busy tourist area. If it can happen there, it can certainly happen near El Capitan, Defiance and Carolina's.

So thanks for the advice. I actually hiked it from downtown PB up Suckergarden. It wasn't bad and since I went just past noon, I felt pretty safe. I got to in front of El Captains and kept going, misreading the previous posts that Carolina's was the first right before El Captains but instead it was past. Walked and ended up at a little market where I bought a water and was going to ask directions however the person behind the counter was a younger staff member or family member. I did not think it was appropriate to ask her. However, across the street there was a little hair salon. I noticed a motorcycle parked there so I ask the owner of the bike we're Carolinas was. He said it's about 5 minutes away drive. Offered to give me a ride so I jumped on the bike. He got me there no problem and didn't want a cent but I have him $5 anyways.

I went into Carolina's and was immediately approached by an very well proportioned Columbian. A bit older but was right in me. After the walk, I just wanted a beer. So I bought one and surveyed the bar. Lots of cruise ship staff for sure, about 8 chicas. Finished my beer and went across to Crystals. Ordered another beer. Surveyed the action and there were about 6 free girls. Again, nothing that I thought would interest me. Finished the beer and went back to Carolina's. As DennisMP mentioned in his post titled "Walking" a tourist was shot and killed last week in the Beacon Hill / Maho Bay area. I did some digging. It was a 48 year old Canadian father leaving the Driftwood Bar with his daughter around 11 pm he was shot in the head, taken to St. Maarten Medical Center, and then evacuated to a hospital in Florida, where he died from the gunshot. And as I think Dennis stated, this is a very touristy part of the island, right adjacent to the runway of the airport, a bit past Sunset Beach bar, I do believe. Just when I thought the island was making a recovery from the Hurricane, this event gives SXM a real black eye, more so for tourists than mongers, but nevertheless for all thinking of a tropical getaway. You can google the key words and read some of the press releases coming out of St. Maarten and more details about the crime.

I always carry a "give up wallet" in my cargo shorts that has some ones and some of those fake cardboard type credit cards that the credit card companies used to send to entice you to sign up. Helps give the wallet some bulk and if shown a gun or knife to your face, you can hand it over with peace of mind! Also, always just carry a copy of your passport with you, and don't worry about carrying your license. The rental car company has seen it already and has given you the approval to drive the car. Leave the bling at home, even if you always wear that favorite gold chain. Get a 10 dollar throw away watch from Walmart before your trip, preferably a black one. Pseudo diver type, that won't shine or stand out.

Some pretty sick and desperate people out there, and to shoot someone in the head is pretty much as ballsy as you can get. If confronted, always comply and give up what's requested. Even the keys to a rental car aren't worth getting killed over.

After a short stop in Curacao and campo Alegre I was happy to get back to my fav place Carolinas. I was anxious to see Tatiana (glasses) again. I always like to hang for a few minutes have a drink and check out the scenery. But my friend pushed this chica on me named Luna before I had chance to scoop up 'my" girl. Wasn't a bad thing because this girl probably gave a top three ever Carolinas experience. Day or night like anywhere be aware of your surroundings, don't carry a lot of cash or valuables, and if you get confronted give it up! Tourist got shot in head last week at the "safest" part of the island fighting to save his daughters purse.

Appreciate your zest for a bit of a walk, but it is. More than a bit of a walk from the cruise ship terminal. And do you really want to arrive sweaty and unappealing at the clubs? Here's some options to consider.

1) After disembarking from your cruise ship. Follow the crowd, or just the signage to downtown Philipsburg. You will avoid the eager taxi drivers and get to take in some of P'Burg on your way to the boardwalk. Make your way to the square in front of the courthouse and it's loaded with taxi drivers. Strike a deal with a driver saying you want to be dropped off at say 12 noon and picked up at 3:30 pm at the same point. Agree on the price, and pay at the end. It's been done many times before. You won't pay any waiting rate. The driver will have plenty of time to do other fares. If you were to get stuck, there are plenty of local guys hanging out in front of Carolinas that would get you back to the cruise ship.

2) If you do decide to walk, you would end up on Juancho Yranusquin Blvd exiting the cruise ship port and hang a left heading inland. This road becomes Suckergarden Road and will take you to El Capitan. The club will be on your left, with high walls, after you travel by the Salt Pond and traverse Arch Road.

3) From El Capitan to Carolina's you head back towards the cruise ship and bang a right onto Arch Road. Walk toward the first main intersection that has a market on the corner and hang a left onto Soualiga Road. Carolina's and Crystals will be maybe 100 yards down.

The previous danger that lurked on the island was related to those that wanted to walk between Carolinas and the former Hypnotique Club, that offered a strong lineup of Colombianas, second only to Carolinas. Unsuspecting tourists would walk up the road and take a shortcut path through a vacant lot with grass the height of cornstalks. Locals would hide in the brush and rob tourists of jewelry, cash, and anything they could get there hands on. At not knife point, but machete point. I remember seeing the entrance to the path in the parking lot of Hypnotique while parking and seeing many local "utes" coming ang going from it. It would provide a shortcut to El Capitan as well, but do not do it.

4) Your other approach to the clubs on foot is to make it to Philipsburgh and then head out where the Salt Pickers roundabout is and head up Soualiga Road onto Pond Island, passing St. Maarten University and the baseball field. Then this area becomes sort of a wasteland with trailer park housing, junkyards and the unpleasant side of the waste of SXM. But LE Petite Chateau will be on your left. Or whatever they call it these days.

Bottom line, do yourself a favor and take a taxi or hook up with one of the crew members and make it to the clubs with him or them. In addition to tourists, you're going to have to compete with cruise ship crew that have liberty and they love to visit Carolinas! And if there are upwards of 6 ships in port, you're in for some tough competition!

I would think that particular walk, during the daytime, would be safe. You'd be on well-traveled streets. Also, Crystals is right across the street from Carolinas, if you're just looking for a second option.

Definitely stick to the streets. I think the problems people encountered were generally: 1) at night; and 2) taking shortcuts. Especially across the undeveloped area between Carolinas and the old Seamans / Hypnotic club.

My first trip, I didn't plan to rent a car, but dealing with getting a ride, and paying for it, was kind of a pain. I wound up renting one on my third day. Depending on where you're staying, parking can be a huge issue. Especially someplace safe (for you and the car). That's the biggest challenge with car rental on SXM.
