Just when some members have been breathing life into the SXM thread, and the island is making recovery from the tragic hurricane in baby steps, more bad news flows regarding some of our haunts. Thanks for sharing the info Funtimesxm. Not sure what's driving all this. Is the island still in such bad shape after the hurricane? El Capitan usually has a security guy. Aka mall cop, at the door and he hangs on the steps overseeing the parking lot. Again, I'd guess it's purely locals involved, but it sucks like someone said, if you're a tourist and caught up in the crossfire. Are drugs driving this? Hell, you can buy weed legally in a bunch of states now, so the novelty of that overseas, doesn't exist in my mind. Some local guy pitching a fit because his girl wasn't around or preoccupied? I like to come and go as I please on my terms and my hours. Hate to see SXM become just a daytime destination and off limits at night. The ultimate bad news will be if the government starts stepping in and shutting places down. Campo in Curacao is easily monitored, and the St. Nicholas area is self contained in Aruba. The SXM model with the clubs interspersed and stand alone, may face changes if things don't improve on "The Friendly Island."

ClubTed, the last time I went to Casa Blanca at night was well over 10 years ago. I didn't even stay past the midnight (even though the "shows" were just starting at that time) and every time I walked to my car I had people watching me from their parked cars. I always tried to arrive early and park close to the bar's entrance. Quick dash to the car, ignition, full speed out of there! Yes, the shows and the performances by some chicas were quite "interesting", but still weren't worth getting mugged or shot over. It's a stone's throw from the international border and quite a ways from the police headquarters in Philipsburg. The only time the cops venture out there, is in situations such as this.

Haven't been on the island since before the hurricane, but Casa Blanca used to be open until 5 am and then there would be spillover in the parking lot afterwards, which fits into the time frame mentioned here. I've been in the club at 5 am As the only tourist, and trust me, it can be a bit dicey. At this hour, it's nothing but locals, and I'm guessing that the assailant (s) and victims probably knew each other, and something bad went down and somebody got pissed off.

This isn't the first time there's been a murder at this club. I think Mel knows the details about another incident that went down in the parking lot years ago. Possibly involving someone that was a part owner of the club.
