Went to the Captains place to see how things were. I always stay in the Beacon Hill area behind Maho Beach, there is a nice boutique hotel there called Spotters Paradise, google it and book via airbnb. It is one of the safer neighborhoods on the island and the owners are brothers Edgar and Eric. Eric lives onsite refer questions in regard to chicas to Eric once you get there. He is a wealth of information if you have questions.

The apartments are secure, very clean, updated, full kitchens with all necessary appliances and dishware, cold A / see, good WIFI, etc.

I don't think you need to worry about that in St. Maarten. The bigger issue is finding a place to stay in light of the conditions on the island. Expedia.com has plenty of choices. Simpson Bay is the best location right now.

Went out cruisin this morning to see what the current situation looks like. Drove up to Casa Blanca and drove up the driveway. Has a dumpster in the parking lot and the lady stuck her head out and said that they will be open at 8 PM tonight. Took a couple of pics and drove back pass Sunset & Empire (looks like the front arch has removed the name "Defiance" with a make over). Poked my head into Carolines and the placed was packed, standing room only. Three cruise ships in town. Only three single chicas sitting at the bar on their phones. Maybe a BAD day for first outing. Car rentals are plentiful in St. Maarten, and inexpensive compared to many travel destinations. Several rental companies used to have booths in the airport as your exited baggage. Because the airport is still a train wreck, there were none operating there this year. That being said, those and other operators have shuttles to their small lots from an area just outside the airport baggage area. Most all lots are located along Airport Road, within a quarter mile of the airport on the way to Simpson Bay. Because of the current configuration of traffic lanes into and out of the airport, this area is heavily congested when flights arrive. So if you do not get the first shuttle, you may wait a long time for the shuttle to return because of traffic. You could walk to the rental lot faster, but hopping a taxi for a two minute ride is the better option. Plenty of taxis waiting outside of baggage.

This year I rented from Budget. Worked out to about $30 a day. I use my American Express card program that covers me for excess damage, including the ridiculous deductible, for about $25. A one time fee. Many credit card companies have this as an option. If you have a buddy or two traveling, each driver is an additional $8/ day. Stay small in the rental. No need for SUV or Jeeps, as there is nowhere to drive them for fun. A small, econo class is fine. I had a Toyota Corolla. 4-dr, A / see, almost new, great shape. Easy to park in the narrow spaces on the island and get you everywhere you want to go. I explore the island regularly, and this vehicle is perfectly adequate. I have been to the island at least 10 times. I have never had any issue with nitpicking scratches or dents when returning the car. And no hidden fees. Most airlines have add-ONS for car rentals if you want one, or a site like expedia.com will give you plenty of options.

In all the trips to St. Maarten, I have never seen an accident. Speed limits are generally low because of road conditions and traffic. You are much more likely to get a ding, than ever see a personal injury, so gauge your insurance needs accordingly. The most likely damage would come from tire or rim damage, or perhaps undercarriage damage. Lots of potholes on the Dutch side, so be careful tooling around. The locals have always been careful entering and exiting their cars, so dings are not as frequent in parking lots as you might think.

Your major companies are all good and prices are nearly all the same. I have always used Ace Rentals / Safari Rentals, great service, free shuttle to and from airport, they're not going to beat you up for every single scratch when you return. I rent a small 4 DR economy with radio and cold A / see, cost $11 a day, insurance is $19 day (recommended), keep in mind the insurance has a $800 deductible. Sometimes they have a special reduced ins rate so ask them, the one time I banged a rental up I had the special reduced rate insurance which was only $10 day and the deductible was $199. I wasn't even on the island 30 minutes before it happened LOL.

FYI friends I'll be in SXM Dec 13 thru Dec 27 so please hit me up, its always good to share a beer and a few stories with each other!

I never want to leave the island, but reality sets in that you have to get back to regular day-to-day life while looking forward to returning. These are the surprises for me this year.

1. All the chicas I met were Colombian. Expected at Carolina's, but a surprise at El Capitan and Empire. As usual, an assortment of skin colors and body builts, and their incredibly abilities in the room and awesome demeanors.

2. Lack of cruise ship patrons. As the number of ships in port pick up as high season rolls in, a single large cruise ship in the past was good for filling Carolina's and El Capitan. Why not this year? I do not know. Will be curious to hear how things develop over the winter months.

3. Everything I needed was available on the Dutch side. Enough places to stay, plenty of restaurants to eat, beaches were clean, rental cars were plentiful and cheap, airline was regular and arrival and departure smooth, casinos operating, day excursions operating. Prices were very reasonable for everything, as they had been in the past. I thought some of this would not be the case, so it was mongering as usual for me. The French side is a total disaster for almost everything. But the clean beaches are still there, and there are a handful of good places to eat in Marigot and Grand Case to satisfy anyone. Given no clubs on the French side, for me it is just an area to pass some time between club sessions.

So anyone thinking of coming, or not, to St. Maarten, I can tell you that you can have a great time even while the island continues to recover from the hurricane.

The massive Allure of the Seas was in on Wednesday. With capacity of almost 7000 passengers, plus crew, again assumed the clubs would be packed. But they were not. Hit Carolina's first around 1:30 pm Only a hand full of chicas and about 15 patrons scattered around the room, none of them looking like crew members and only a couple like tourists. Left immediately. Over to El Capitan. Loaded with at least 15-20 chicas, but only five local guys. Went to the bar to grab a beer and immediately surrounded by half dozen Colombian girls. At night, if you think you will be longer than 20 min, pay the extra session fee up front to avoid rude interruption by the door banger.

Later on Wednesday night, I went back to El Capitan for another session with Yoanna. Yes, she was my favorite this trip. Another great session in the room. Said my goodbye, and left. The club was hopping. Lots of girls and patrons. I did not meet a single girl at EC from the DR, a big change from the past. And many attractive girls in the house.

Was going back to my hotel, but turned around and decided to head up to Empire again to see if it was less than a zoo that I encountered Sunday night. Arrived at a partially filled parking lot. Able to park at the door. No loiterers on the parking lot. No cover fee this night. Bar was loaded with chicas, but almost all locals.
