Darn. I screwed this up. Intended for Phuket Hotels and I accidentally put in Pattaya Hotels. Sorry. Too late to move it now.

    Greetings all,

Making my first trip to Phuket in early Nov. I have been RTFF but unfortunately not a whole lot of recent info on Phuket hotels. I am looking for a fairly modern 4 star option close to the action in Patong, ideally under $75 a night. Something along the lines of Kee Resort or Hotel Clover but guest friendly which neither of them are. I considered Deevana Plaza but after reaching out to them, they were "pleased" to inform me of a 1500 b joiner fee. Bliss is another I am considering but it seems far away. Any suggestions? The main requirements are close to the action and a decent pool. Thanks in advance for any advice.

At $75 per night, you are marginally into the 4-star range. IMHO, "close to the action in Patong" means either OTOP area or Bangla Road area. Here are my thoughts:

R-Mar. I've stayed here, recommended. It's pronounced "Ah Mah", which means grandmother, I initially pronounced it per American style and my driver looked at me like I had 2 heads. Just a smidge north of Bangla Road, which means its a good hike to OTOP. This is 3-star, but still very nice. I recommend that you get something better than the "minimum" room because the "minimum" room is likely to have a view of the side of an ugly building. Other rooms have decent views of pool. The only negative of this place is that there are no walk in showers, you get a big tub with a shower and that's awkward for showering together (or getting in and out while drunk). Last visit there was no fee for joiner, but she is not allowed at breakfast with you. If you want her to join breakfast, you need to formally register her as a guest for the duration of the stay.

Beyond Patong. I've stayed here, but only 2 nights. I'm neutral on this place. Even further north than R-Mar, which means it is an even longer hike to OTOP but still easy to Bangla. It is 4-star, but I don't feel it was any nicer than R-Mar. I'm a fan of the "Beyond Resort XXX" group of hotels, but I don't think this is as nice as the others (I wonder if it is actually part of the same group). Still, it's a nice place. I don't know about joiner situation, I did BYO and registered her without problem.

Palmyra Patong Resort. I've stayed here, recommended. Even further north than Beyond Patong, which means it's a nasty hike to OTOP but still not too bad to Bangla. Decent 3-star. Not as nice as R-Mar, but has walk in shower. No problem with joiner (walk past reception and they don't even notice, they will collect girl's ID, but only upon my request). Suggest you get a pool view room (floors 2-7) but not the pool access room (floor 1); pool access means everybody in restaurant will be looking into your room and you pretty much need to keep curtains closed. There is another building that has no view of the pool at all, I didn't go in that building but it looks unappealing to me.

Burasari. I've never stayed there, but I've visited a friend there. I'll give a second hand "not recommended". Nice looking place with good service, but my friend had problems with other guests. This is near OTOP and should still be considered if you like the OTOP feel. It is guest friendly, but I don't know details. 4-star.

Holiday Inn Resort. I've never stayed here, but my friend who left Burasari said it's much better. I'll give a second hand "recommended" and it is 4-star. Close to OTOP, but substantial walk to Bangla. It is guest friendly, but I don't know details.

To me, the ideal location would be midway between OTOP and Bangla at a price of 2,700 to 3,500. I don't know what that place is.

Staying in View Talay 6 in a Cando owned apartment and got a good price of around 900 baht a night through Agoda.

Typical View Talay 6 condo but cheaper than with Honeys or Dancewatchers etc and comes with daily room cleaning.

    Great value.

To be clear, if you reserve a room for 2 people, you will not have to pay 1000 baht for your sweetie.

The 1000 baht only comes into play if your sweetie brings a friend.

    Sandy Spring Hotel, Soi 13

This place is girl-friendly. Leaving card at reception.

Good location for beach access. Less than 100 metres, and supermarket over road in opposite direction.

Next door to Sportsman pub for those needing a steak & kidney pie and a pint of Guinness.

Room was spacious, with a nice little balcony with table and chairs.

    Good bed, bathroom, TV.

Maybe just call / email and ask the hotel? It's an expensive hotel, if one commenter says it's guest friendly and you book it and upon arrival it's not, you're whole Pattaya trip is ruined.

Nalanta is low budget hotel with very small staff and is guest friendly.

The rooms are basic. It is OK hotel for few days IMO if you are on tight budget.
