Sawasdee Pattaya is also "purple" (light, faded purple) - didn't look at the others

All 5 of the Sawasdee hotels have the same deal - I usually get a fan room in a cheap charlie place (locals live there) but now that the price is 250 for fan or 350 for AC w/o TV or refrig, it just isn't worth it compared to the 400 at Sawasdee for the 15 night deal.

There is a slight advantage to Sawasdee Siam or Pattaya because they have LIFTS (and after last year's trudging up 12 flights of stairs to "chun hah" at the Court, I can do without climbing the mountain, thank you very much)

Areca looks nice but... <read my second paragraph> a little bit out of my desired price range - the location being almost up to Buakhao on Diana, it's a nice looking place and the "non-smoking" aspect is nice, too. <but I wonder if any of the girls don't want to "sa-moke" because of the "no smoking" policy > snicker

Sawasdee seems to be Thailand's version of "Motel 6"(this comparison will be lost on you "non-'Murcans" though)

    Phantom,

Had I checked my pix better, has I seen:
Purple hotel = Siam Sawasdee on Soi Buakhao
The Sawasdee Sea View on Beach Road Soi 10 also has a stay 15 pay 10 and a stay 7 pay 5 deal.

I think the purple hotel on Soi Bukow and Soi Honey is the Sawasdee hotel Dinghy is referring to as this is the only Purple building I could think of in this area.
I've stayed there last year and the overall quality is not worth the price, but then I stayed in Nov during high season so value could be better in off season (but this still wont change the poor quality of the place)

    Dinghy,

The purple hotel on Buakhao and Soi Honey Inn has a similar deal.
    The Flippers will surely follow.

To first time visitors: book just one or two nights in advance and do some search and find other hotels once on the ground. Works everytime in low season!

    Buzz,

all those you mentioned are girl-friendly, don't worry.
Areca is well maintained, nice and clean rooms with electronic in-room safe. Never used the gym at Areca, but it looked ok. Also don't know if they have Wi-Fi, since I don't bring my laptop anymore, cheap internet cafes are everywhere. All in all Areca is a very good choice.

    Right now Sawasdee is offering
    stay 5 pay 4,
    stay 7 pay 5, and
    stay 15 pay 10
    600B/night (you do the math)

There is an internet cafe corner of Buakhao and Diana where you can buy 840 minutes (14 hours pay 10 get 4 free) for 300B and USE YOUR OWN MACHINE (for those of us who LIKE travelling with the albatross around our necks)

Some other places are having specials as well. For those of you who want to do Roof Garden, they charge to RENT their ADSL modem (250 B/day) IF you have your own, bring it and use it - they won't know - no way to tell at all. I actually don't think their 700B rate is all that good with the other places available (closer in, walking distance) . Eastiny has several rooms with "free internet" for 1200B/night (right...). Unless you like the location, and the noise... well... "up to you".

    positive experience at Areca Lodge

I'd give Areca Lodge positive review and recommendation for what you are looking for. Two very nice pools, and gym that seems pretty good, though I've never used it.

Stayed there three different times over past couple of years. Always girl friendly, even in multiples. Good location. Only negative experience was last May/June when it was full of drunk US military types.

    Areca Lodge

    Traveler,

What is Areca like ? ....I am looking for a place with pool and also a gym...at a nominal fee.....Metropole looks great but a tad pricy.....The Roof Garden Inn at 700 baht a night with no pool and the surcharges like banking fees that this guy adds to the bill is a bit much. His ADSL is also 250.- baht per day where as other hotels are charging 100.- baht. Not a huge amount of money but its the principal. The Mansion at 600.- baht looks great. Are these places all GF or do they have add on fees ? The Roof Garden does not charge joiner fees.

    Cheers

    Bullseye,

I like the LK Metropole, just opposite Areca. Very nice rooms, good gym but pool is quite small.

The LK Mansion might also fit your needs

Stopped at four hotels Pattaya now, last weekend stayed in the Marriott. pricey but definately the best. Girl friendly, great pool, superb location and access to both Beach and Second Roads.

    The Areca

The Areca Lodge is Girl Friendly. Yes, they demand the girl's ID for security reasons and this is left with reception and she can claim it back with the "white chit" when she leaves. It says clearly on that white chit that it's FREE OF CHARGE.

There are two pools in the Areca Lodge.

One of the better hotels in that price range for sure.

    Bullseye,

yes it is girl-friendly. Sometimes - seems to depend on staff - they might ask for the ID of your "lady of the night", but this is just for your protection.
