I am going next week for a look. I haven't been in 8 years and my expectations are low. That way I won't be disappointed if it is as bad as some say! Interesting you mention Valencia. I too want to see if long term living would suit me but I fear the elevation is not enough to provide much relief from the heat. I want to see anyway. Stinking hot in AC right now, too much for me.

Very good, SE. I look forward to that. PM me if you want. Valencia may be five degrees cooler which is nice and shady. The geography around there is great with cool natural pools and hot springs. Go to Forest Camp, mate, and take a chick. Rent a motorbike if you like. Very cheap and fun. As for getting Duma chicks, they have probably all been warned about us but that doesn't mean there are not exceptions. As anywhere I am sure if you live there the possibilities are endless.

Arrived in Duma late-ish on New Years Eve. After the fireworks I walked into WhyNot. Again, very slow due to people being at home with families. It was a complete sausage fest: about 30 guys, 6 hot girlfriends, 2 hookers and a bakla to complete the mix. The NPA is not your only worry. Philippines, including Dumaguete has frequent assassinations of foreigners that are mostly uncaught and unsolved. Much more suspicious deaths than Thailand. Also the USA State Dept warns it's Citizens that unlawful, bogus arrests and detentions are common in the Philippines, usually to extort money from the poor sucker who falls their victim.

Many of the poriners here do exactly what you suggest, they BTOGirl. Dumbagetu is not an easy place to find a pretty, young girl to bed, even the pros are grossly lacking, unless you import an escort from Manila (over priced). Siquijor has nothing except nice beaches and overpriced accommodations. No shopping, even worse medical than Dumbaguetu. Bring your own girl there as well. All in all the Philippines is overate as a place to monger and even more overrated as a place to live long term.
