No Flight to DUM from CEB

Gotta take the boat. There is a flight to Bacolod from CEB on CP.

La Casa del Mar is the place to stay if you can afford $40. The other big place on the malecon, Bethel Guest House, is run by the church and NOT GF.

Bacolod is better if you are looking for company but DUM is nice for a few days if you have company.

Looks pretty good, anyone further info on this hotel? Dumaguete is now on my list as a must do next PI vacation, thanks.

Nightrider1, thanks for the good info about scenic travels across the island, must give it a go too.

    Cheers F/Fifty

    Dumaguete Hotel

One of the best hotel values in Dumaguete is Check Inn Hotel on Locsin Street. Only a block from Mac Donalds and very clean and new looking. Has an attached restraunt with good food as long as you don't want a western breakfast. ( Have not found ANY Filipino who has a clue what eggs over easy means . They all come sunny side up and hard ) Rates for a big bed called matrimonial is only 800 pesos per night. Guest friendly and free WIFI too. Coming to the city I took the bus route from Bacolod which was VERY scenic going through mountains and then back to the sea and passing acres of sugar cane fields as well as the typical rice fields. Leaving the city I again too the bus, to Cebu with a short ferry crossing thrown in. Not as scenic as the trip from Bacolod but still enjoyable.

    Dumaguete

I wonder if "stop to love" meant getting around in the Dumaguete area? I wish people would be more specific when they ask questions. I think the typical travel is by hubel hubel. Best to ask the locals for advice.

By all means find a way to get to Valencia, a well-kept little town which is the jumping off point for the 30m Casaroro Falls. Really beautiful.

Wow, it's been over a year since anyone posted here. You guys need to get out of Angeles more often!

What you see below was posted elsewhere, but after being reminded that THERE IS a Dumaguete thread, I decided to put a copy here.

You don't tell us what you have in mind, but from MNL you can fly to Dumaguete. I don't know if there is a flight from Cebu. From Cebu city you can take the "Ocean jet" ferry, which connects at Tagbiliran on the Island of Bohol. http://www.oceanjet.net/schedcebudumaguete.htm

Another option is bus the length of Cebu till you get to a scenic spot called Lilo-an on the southern tip. From there you can take a ferry across to Sibulan. It's only 20 or 30 minutes across the Tanon strait and then another 20 or 30 min trike ride into Dumaguete.

An option I haven't tried is crossing the spine of Cebu to Toledo and then taking a ferry across to San Carlos, Negros. Probably not what you have in mind since you'll end up about 150 km north of Dumaguet.

In Dumaguete, I stayed at La Residencia Al Mar on the waterfront 225 7100. Bay view rooms were small, but the place has a nice feel to it. Night security guys tend to stare ....kind of pissed me off since you have to walk up the staircase strait up from the front desk. Half way up the stairs turn around and ask, "Are you looking at my ass or hers?" Then laugh. They have nothing to do all nigt so you can't blame them for looking at your ass....or your girl's ass. I worked my first two years of college as a security guard so believe me, it is a boring job.

I also stayed at a place that had a floor to ceiling window overlooking the park. It could be noisy, but I don't remember sleeping much that night. Had roof top restaurant. I posted on this before, but maybe a year ago.

Maria Plaza Luisa 225 7994 cheap, on one side of the park. I checked it out, but didn't stay, would want to see the room before paying.

Bethel house is the largest building in town, waterfront, but conservative. 225 2000. If you check in with a girl, tell them you are married or some other bull. If you have a steady girl, this would be good. Probably nice views from the upper floors.

Try to get out to the waterfall. You will not regret it. I took a ride out to xyz city, very nicely kept town, and the hiked all the way (mostly on a road), but some people rent an ATV for the road, and then only have a staircase and short walk (15min) to get to the main event. I skinny dipped under the falls since there were only the two of us. She didn't join in.....but eventually got naked later that night, at the hotel, on our 2nd date.

Beach option would be Apo island. Good snorkeling and diving.

Hope you can post a bit about you online exp on the chat thread.

Hope you can post a bit about your Negros experiences after your trip.

I realize the main topic here is sx, but info on cities, hotels, beaches, ambience, etc, is also allowed and very much encouraged.

    X Man

    Plaza Maria Luisa and Honeycomb

Plaza Maria Luisa (see pic of five-story building) is not on the waterfront, but across from the attractive and busy Rizal Park (north side). I looked at a room, but didn't stay there. I don't remember why.

In this area you'll also find the church and the bell tower (west side of the park). I also remember seeing a money changer in the area to the south of the park.

Honeycomb Hotel (see pic with red sign) is on the waterfront and the girls at reception wear nice black miniskirts. I seem to remember a similar uniform in Why Not disco, so they many be jointly owned. I looked at two rooms at Honeycomb and they both struck me as VERY noisy. Be careful about this place.

    Bethel Guest House

Along the waterfront, you can see the large building which is Bethel guest house. Apparently this place is NOT guest friendly. There is a nice little cafeteria restaurant on the ground floor with cheap Filipino food.

    La Residencia Almar

Maybe I should have tried to break the ice, but I felt the staff here were a bit cold. I'd walk in, they'd look at me, but not say anything.

I had a room on the front looking out over the bay. The room was rather small.

Next door is a bar which had some ladies. They weren't very friendly either. I think the name is Happy Fred's.

    La Residencia Almar

I can confirm that this place is guest friendly. I've stayed there for my last 3 visits (most recently in August, 2005). I brought in all kinds, from bargirls to conservative students. I never had a problem. The night watchman was always very helpful.

    Bombs are all in Mindanoa.

Also, here is Dumaguete web site you may want to tinker with:

She is dating you because you are honest with yourself. Some women 'connect' and have a third sense which tells them that a particular guy is naughty outside, but actually a saint inside!!!
