This is a really bad generalization. I am dating a filipina bar girl and she has never slept with a Filipino. She has never even been interested in a filipino guy (at least, not since she was in elementary school).

She has also dated guys with a lot of money. Traveled for months at a time to Thailand, scuba trips in Subic and Boracay, all on barfines.

I'll second Mahku regarding Bethel guest house, they are very conservative Christians and under no circumstances will they allow you to bring a guest back to your room.

I was there a couple of years ago. Stayed at Plaza Maria Louisa, it's about a block off the main blvd just around the corner and up the road from Why Not. This place wasn't completely girl friendly, got some stares, but nobody actually tried to stop me from bringing various dates to my room. Recommend you book a double room and mention that your girlfriend will be meeting you here. (Might be a different gf every night).

Another hotel I know is girl friendly is Honeycomb Inn right on the Blvd. Met several guys who stayed there and they had no problems.

I stopped in to a few other hotels (C & L Suites is one I remember) and they also seemed to be NOT girl friendly. (Meaning large, obvious "No Guests after 10 p.m. signs, asked discreetly at the front desk and didn't get a positive response).

I had a great time there back in '04. X - I hope you'll post some new recon, I might like to get back here and have been wondering how the place is these days.

That would be Bethel Guesthouse X Man. It´s apparently owned by a very conservative family. So any attempts to bring back a street walker from in front of Why Not will be looked on very dimly indeed.

All philippino girls have become smart. If they work in the bars, they know the whole game plan, not just the game.
There is always mutual attraction. If the girl likes you will know instantly. You do not have to tip her all night or two nights in a row. In philippines there is no point chasing the girl like in western countries. I am sure other fellow mongers have learned the hard way. I had one girl who was only interested in shopping. I had to dump her right away.

Go easy with your judgements, please. Pinoys are pretty okay guys as long as they do not see you as a threat. Having lived there, I have had to extricate myself from many a drunken mess and the best way to calm down an upset Pinoy is to offer him a beer in friendship. It nearly always works wonders WITHIN 30 SECONDS !!!!!!!!!!!!
As to the hired help at Why Not being available, please remember that they are not paid much. Hence they would love an opportunity to make more form a customer who takes her out. May I recommend a proven formula. Make an offer to buy a drink while she is at work behind the bar - whatever she likes to drink. Believe me, she will not try to rip you with your offer of generosity. This is a good way to break the ice and after that it is up to you on how you play your cards.

Most of them are part-time students so if you are able to talk about her subjects, you are onto an absolute winner!

Sorry I didn´t make that clearer. It´s part of Why Not, which includes the disco, videoke bar, pool tables, a couple of restaurants and the bar which is open to the street. There´s also an internet cafe and travel agent.

There are 2 that I´ve visited. One is called Lipstick. Last year when I visited the owner was an Aussie guy that was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there weren´t any girls there that I could work up an interest in. After a drink I went next door to Chequers. That´s where the whole business happened with the bargirl and the jealous local guys. This girl was a stunner but as I recall she was the only one I would have considered taking out. I remember there was one other similar bar across the street. These places aren´t quite at the airport but they´re most of the way there on the road leading that way.

So there wasn´t much to be excited about but after all this time things could be different.

I´ve never been impressed by what´s on offer at Why Not. Only once in about 6 visits have I gotten anywhere with the hired help (girl working in the back videoke) and that took a follow up visit. I´ve found that the best bet is at the open air bar facing the street. A few pros usually hang out around where all the trikes are parked and they usually wander over to where the bar is to see if they can catch some business. But there are usually some trannies in the mix so you have to be on full, not San Mig impaired alert.

I´ve gotten by in Dumaguete either by internet chat friends or by what the trike drivers bring around. These drivers are a surprisingly good source of college sweeties that want to make some extra money without being seen hanging around bars and publicly selling themselves.

About the advisability of drinking with Pinoys, it just depends on the situation. But anything that combines alcohol and pussy hunting is a volatile mix for sure. One of my more sinister encounters in the country was last year in one of the bars out close to Dumaguete Airport. I was having a good time with (I thought) the best looking girl in the bar. In came this young tough with a couple of friends. He obviously thought that he owned the rights to this bargirl. I didn´t give up on the girl and at closing time I offered to take her home (probably a mistake). In order to keep the peace she offered to come to my room the next day, which she did and it was great. That night I just went home with that guy and his buddies staring daggers at me. So I was lucky...that time.

In Cebu, I saw a drunken pinoy pull a gun after a foreigner started chatting up some girls in the club. A shot was actually fired into the floor. Luckily, his friends rushed him out of the club.

I have been going to the philippines for almost double the time you have been and no pinoys have ever caused me any problems at a Disco , ever. there is no need to fear pinoys at disco's etc UNLESS you chat up their girl friend.

Why would you sit at a bar with boys ? I sat in amongst the girls at the tables. there were about ten girls for every guy on the night i was there.

for sure do not go there on sunday nights its dead as all hell.

for me Why Not Disco is the only happening place in Dumaguete. The rest of Dumaguete you can forget.

I spread my smile and some money around; it just was not a happening place that night.

I am especially careful when there are a lot of Filipino male customers around in a bar. That night all the customers at the bar (about 8), except for me, were Filipino men. I have been going to the Philippines for 18 years now and know for a fact it can be a bad scene all around when they get drunk and a foreigner is around.

Everyones experience is different. Why Not Bar/Disco is great. If you cant get a reasonable looking lay there , think there is trouble. I was there on an off night and within minutes had a respectable looking lady. I didnt even try , she made the moves , not aggressive , charming moves , and I am older than Billspu or Noahs Ark plus I am only average looking. Smile lads ,smile. It doesnt cost anything and works wonders.
