Posts: 27Yup that makes perfect sense. I just don't like that to get a whatsapp account and use it, I have to give it access to all of my existing contacts on my phone. Don't need my relatives and coworkers getting a heads up I'm on whatsapp and up to p good.

Posts: 27Yup. I don't like that whatsapp needs to access my contacts. No way around it seems like the only way to get whatsapp to work.
Oh well, guess I'll be heading to Golden time every day, LOL. Maybe I'll try habanos if I do end up going there for work this spring.

Posts: 86Yes, whatsapp is certainly necessary as most of the chicas use whatsapp as primary mode of communication. If you like to leave no traces, get a new local number and if possible take with you a older phone and use this phone for local number and whatsapp together. Once you are done, you could discard the sim and factory reset the phone back.
If you are completely against leaving any digital traces, then your options are limited.

Uber is the way to go. 25-30 dollars for a ride between airport and Hotel. Averaged 3-4 dollars a ride and 5 dollars on longer rides. Uber tipping is not expected either.

Posts: 27She is super attractive. Might still give it a go. If my trip does happen this spring this seems to be the first place where WhatsApp is necessary to set up some fun. I'd rather not leave any traces on my phone or back to my home number up here.
Might just end up taking a taxi to Golden.

Not saying these are the only places to get this done. Just how I went about it. In the multi plaza mall just North of Punta Pacifica there is a shop on the second floor called FCC innovations. This was the only shop in the whole mall that sold SIM cards. They sell SIM cards for one dollar. They had Movil SIMs which worked great.
On the wrapper is your phone number so don't throw that away. All phone numbers in Panama have to be registered. You will need to register your number using your passport or other form of identification. Helps to have someone who can read Spanish to navigate the menu options.
Once this is done you will need to load Data from a prepaid card. I went with the five dollar card which gives you unlimited data for seven days. There is a three dollar option but you only get a limited amount of data for a few days. Good I suppose if you don't plan on using it a lot. For me the extra two dollars was well spent.
Same here helps to have someone who can read Spanish navigate the menu options. The store clerks were very helpful. Data cards can be found at most market shops.

I'm realizing I may be in Panama City during Carnival (Feb 9-13). Has anyone pursued our hobby during Carnival or heard about its impact on the scene? Are Habanos / LE Palace / Golden Time likely to still be open or particularly packed?
