OK, cool, but the poster mentioned that Uber drivers can't find anything and gave Hyatt Place as example. Don't you, the customer, type Hyatt Place in the Uber app, finds it and choose that destination, order the ride. Then Uber driver have the app tell him where to go? Why a need for the driver to ask for directions? Do the girl don't know how to spell Hyatt or don't know how to copy / paste?

Always try to get the name of the building. Along with the landmark most taxi drivers and some of the Uber drivers can get you there.

Uber is built on the customer entering the right information in the app. If you continue to have problems, then increase the accuracy of the info you send to the girls so that they can input the address or GPS location correctly.

Locals do not use street names and numbers. Each street has at least one name and quite often two. House numbers rarely are visible on buildings. Every building has a name that is used instead of house number. For example, go to the PH MARIA LUISA on VIA Argentina near the FARMACY AROCHA.

Translation: PH means penthouse, but usually is a 40 year old crappy 6 story apartment building. On VIA Argentina means it might be on the actual street, but could be on any side street that intersects the street in question within a block or so either way. LANDMARKS are often used, Farmacia Arocha is a big chain and there is one in every neighborhood, unfortunately, some barrios have two. Supermarket names and banks are often used.

If you google the building name you usually will find a picture and a map.

The young students who deliver food for the fast food places who you see parked on their minibikes waiting for deliveries generally know all the building names in the area. Don't be afraid to ask for directions.

I have had to send directions to several Uber drivers escorting my lady other day......but an Uber driver in the same city hasn't got a clue.

I have read the forum (not a new member), but with Covid, a ton has changed and closed. Right now I'm planning on heading down for 8 nights, and going to mix some healthy sightseeing in with my work in the morning and girls at night. Outside of DJ and the Casino near the JW at night, does anyone else has any recommended spots for chicas?

Never have had a problem acquiring a taxi in Panama. Although I have had to send directions to several Uber drivers escorting my lady other day. That has always fascinated me. There is a 12 year old in South Africa with a stolen cell phone that in 30 seconds can tell you exactly where the Hyatt Place is in Panama City Panama but an Uber driver in the same city hasn't got a clue.

Sounds like you haven't had the best luck. My Uber experience has been limited to "Take me from where I am now to Destination X". With Destination X being a bar / restaurant or my hotel. I guess like everything in life, YMMV.

I feel you on taxi vs Uber. My compromise is taking taxis when there's a taxi stand (hotels, malls, etc.). But Uber is tough to beat when you are "out and about". Such a convenience to have someone come pick you up wherever you may be. And I don't have to tell them where I am either. Maybe it's time for you to join me in the 21st century!

Not questoning your "street cred" at all. This forum, ISG, is about sharing information to help each other as we travel the world. Sounds like you have much experience and knowledge in many countries that could help others. Hope you will start sharing that info just as you are trying to gain information from other guys here. That's all. And yes safe travel to you as well.

Married life has hampered my mongering activities. So most of the info I'd have to share is WAY out of date! But I will certainly share my experiences in Cartagena and Bogota end of September. The "work remote" trend has opened some doors for me. Rather than having 3-5 weeks of travel time per year, now it's almost unlimited. My wife (who is also my best friend) travels with me most of the time, but she has her limits! So I'm able to get away for some "personal" time.

Uber is much cheaper than cabs, but on longer rides make sure you get charged the right amount!

I was overcharged many times $10.00 or more, but as soon as I wrote to Uber they credited me, there hoping you don't pay attention!

The bar with the ever-changing names is open and there are women available for various activities but not in the same numbers as before. I was expecting that and made arrangements via the Internet to see several ladies. A couple of which were previous dates. That actually worked out really well as it was pretty easy to negotiate reasonable prices for long stays. Example one very attractive early 30's offered to spend A week with me 24 seven for $1500. Sounds like a lot but in Las Vegas she could've easily got that for the evening. No I did not do that. Wasn't that hard to find a six hour evening for A bit more than $200.

Since 2013 I've been a frequent visitor to Panama. Other than this last trip late June through July I have not been there since November 2019. Cancel a trip in early 2020 for obvious reasons.

It was a strange experience in many ways. Example:

Exiting customs you step into a very large long hallway that on all previous trips was packed with humanity all of which wanted to become your new very best friend. This trip I stepped onto that long wide hallway that was occupied by exactly 3 people. This was about 2 PM in the afternoon. Literally had to go into the parking lot to find a taxi. The first one I found I gave to a young lady who is very upset that she couldn't find one.

Speculation: lots of people flying into the airport few actually staying in Panama. I stayed at the Marriott AC. Estimate they may have had 20 guest. Many other hotels are closed. Restaurants are open but not a lot of customers. Reduced menus..
