So for anyone that cares what the half name change was all about, Don Julio is the name of the guy who runs / partially owns Habano's. He used to be a major importer of Cuban cigars to Panama. He still does, but he also has started his own cigar brand named after himself, Don Julio. Obviously you can buy his cigars at Don Julio's / Habano's.
Don Julio has found himself in such favor with the President of Panama that he recently was part of a few official international delegations (China among others).
I am not sure if the President likes the cigars or the women more.

Posts: 135Observations on Panama after an 11 day visit. Part 01
Observations:
The Veneto is dead. Throw dirt on it.
If you have any fond memories of Las Vegas Suites it's gone. Just a framework left quite literally.
Donjulio / Habano's is alive and well.
The Hyatt place hotel is a great place to stay with a crappie $30.00 guest fee.
Love it, hate it, couldn't care less about it, or whatever your opinion it cannot be avoided.
It's spreading across the city like a cancer. The price of love is gone up $30.00.
Tinder and other electronic pickup joints is growing as a reliable source of short time love.
Part two later after I figure out why I cannot attach photographs.
Lee.

For those that are not familiar with Latin America, (or those that have forgotten) Good Friday (March 30) means DRY (no alcohol) day.
Most of the venues will be closed.
Sorry to bring that up.
Mellow.

As for the Hyatt, it's ludicrous to claim it has 80,000 guests per year if 40,000+ of them are +1's in a room. If the Hyatt rents 30,000 room nights per year and 3,000 or 4,000 of them are to mongers, that's a lot of business. And I doubt they rent anywhere near 30,000 room nights per year, or else the rate wouldn't be half that of the Marriott.

I'm not going to debate this issue. However, I will make a few points of fact. Each room does not have one person in it most of the time. Many times its between 2-4 so no I am not saying its 100% occupied every day of the year but, given the average occupancy rate in Panama at approx 80% and given that most rooms have more than just one guest staying in it I am giving you an estimated number of guests per year who stay at the Hyatt. The couple thousand mongers (if even that many) staying there each year is not even a blip on the radar. Regardless of your opinion or mine if you don't buy my explanation that is fine. However, the fact is they charge it because they can and, they will continue to charge it and people will continue to pay it. (aside from a few). I can also assure you they will tolerate hookers and mongers staying at their hotel within reason but, they in no way want to be known as a Hooker hotel. In fact I bet Hyatt corporate would shut the franchisee down and de-brand the hotel if it got out of hand. That was part of the reason the Veneto was sold / filed bankruptcy / taken over. Wyndham forced them to de-brand the hotel.

There's also no way it took the Hyatt over three years to figure out Habanos was two blocks away. My last time at the Hyatt, if I sat in the lobby for an hour at night, I'd count at least ten escorts coming or going. That's a huge amount of business for the Hyatt.
If the Hyatt was truly trying to discourage this activity, it would advertise the fee so that such men would stay elsewhere. But that's not what's happening. The Hyatt doesn't even call it a guest fee on the folio. It calls it an "upgrade fee," whatever that's supposed to mean.
