    El Greco,
Yes, TIM has state and interstate refill cards.
The statecards you'll find easily in any Banca da revista ou Loteria.
The interstate cards can be a little bit harder to find.
I think the TIM interstate cards comes in two different types. One of them is valid for SIM-cards belonging to the states of AL, PE, PB, RN, PI AND CE. The other one is valid for almost all the other states.
In Fortaleza the interstate card including Ceará is easier to find than the other card that excludes Ceará but includes Rio.

Cleaning Your Own Shoes, Don't try this at home!

I first encountered crap on the shoe in 1981 on Avenida Atlantica just past what is now Balcony Bar. I think they were using some of the cement used to hold the sidewalk stones together back then. Anyhow, it made a sort of white lump on the shoes. So, I was drunk and happy to have the crap called to my attention. The shoe shine boy asked for one hundred dollars. I was so pissed I threw his shoeshine box across Avenida Atlantica, well half of it anyway. The boy went running after the box. A horse hair brush was left at my feet. I still have that brush.

Over the next few years I was frustrated that I never could catch the culprits who continued to make deposits on my shoes. One night at Bate Boca, a bar on Ave. Prado Junior near Mabs (formerly Ibiza, Bie Willie, No Name, and now Scotland Yard.), one of the boys entered to point out that I had crap on my shoe and must have it cleaned off. I agreed with him, removed my shoe, and whipped it clean on his natural hair. Of course I knew that the bartender, Ze, already had a steel pipe in his hand in case there was any problem.

I try to always include useful information in my posts. So, today, Sunday, I visited a cambio on Avenida Atlantica, Action Cambio, near Republica do Peru (about a block east from Monte Carlo). This is the first time I’ve seen a cambio open on Sunday. Their rate was 2.35 for a cash exchange.

    shoe scam in china

    Jaimito Cartero,

I had the same thing happen to me last year in China. I did not notice it until I got back to my hotel room and put two and two together. I was wondering when walking why did the shoeshine guy approach me. I had some sort of white liquid poured onto my loafers.

    First Terma - Monte Carlo

I went to Monte Carlo for the first time on Friday night. I wasn't sure how late they were open, as I was getting there about 11pm. At first I thought they were closing in an hour, but he door guy was telling me 1am (I guess you have to enter by 1am, it closes at 2am).

I got the free tour, and wasn't sure at first if I was going to go or not. The bar part was so smoky, and pretty full, but one blonde came up and welcomed me, so I decided I'd try it.

    Dollar exchange 2.40R=$1.

I'm pretty slow in new places, so the first hour, after I changed into my robe, and went into the bar area, I just checked out the girls. The original blonde who had welcomed me, came and tried to claim me, but she had heavy bags under her eyes, so I decided to keep checking others out.

I had an older chica come and attach herself to me, and she kissed very nicely, but was just a bit too worn out for my tastes. I had one other blonde that I was eyeing, but she went off to the private whiskeria room, never to return.

I finally settled on a small breasted chica, who was very nice. I'd rate her at 7.5 looks. Overall, I saw girls in the 5-9 range.

I got the normal room for 120R for the chica, 50R for room, 50R for entry.

Leiticia, 24 yo, was pretty passionate, nice DFK, small perky breasts. She has a one year old (but body looks very nice), and had small amount of leche in them.

She moved to BBBJ quickly, and was doing a marvelous job. I stopped her before I blew, and went down on her. I usually like to take longer doing this, but with only 40 minutes, what can you do?

She was multiorgasmic, and was really juicy. She put the condom on with her mouth, and then we moved to missionary. I had her finish me off with her nice BBBJ. We had a few minutes to spare, so she let me take some pics (no face showing), and some more kissing and general cuddling. Nice service. Looks 7.5, service 8.0. Recommended.

That area around Help is a rallying point for scammers. Nearby Ipanema beach should be better.

You're right about not drinking tap water. Locals would choose to buy bottled water or at least a filter for the tap water.

While in Brazil would recommend giving more than the usual attention to health and hygiene. Little things like washing your hands often, drinking water to rehydrate after a night on the booze. Helps you to avoid things like strep throat or a ten day course of antibiotics. Those things can quickly put a dampener on your holiday.

Shoe scam - Don't drink the water?

A few days ago, I got up early and took a city bus (I call this the cheap tour, just jump on one, and ride it until it stops, or they kick you off) tour. 1.8R for 2 hours of sightseeing. I always like to get a feel for the place I'm in. I took the 584.

I only only been on the edge of the beach on Copa, so decided to walk down and check it out. As I walked down an older local lady in a bathing suit warned me to watch out for thieves. I walked along the water for a couple of hundred yards, and then headed up to Rua Bolivar/Atlantico. As I was waiting for the light to cross, I felt something hit my shoe. I looked over, and there was a goofy looking teenager. And he was acting, well, weird. It looked like he had a small paper cup or something in his hand.

I started walking across the street, and a shoeshine guy (20yr old), who had run across the street 15 seconds before me, started yelling and pointing at my shoe. I saw a ugly yellow gloop on my right shoe. I now knew what the other guy was up to. He starts to indicate that he will clean it for me.

I know that he's working in concert with the other guy, and at best he's trying to make up business for himself, worst case if his buddy will come up while I'm getting them clean and try and pickpocket, or otherwise rip me off.

These type of things really [CodeWord140] me off. I tell the shoeshine guy, "No" rather loud, but he keeps following me and emphatically telling me that he has to clean them. I start yelling "No" at him, until he finally gets the message.

Luckily these were my old shoes, and I had a brand new pair waiting at my apartment. The stuff looked like baby shit to me, or perhaps pureed mango. I smelled it (yummmmm), and it was some sort of paint or petroleum based stuff. I tried to wipe if off on a fire hydrant, but it didn't come off well.

For those with a strong stomach, I've attached a pic. I've decided that I'll stay away from the beach, because of BS like this. I've had no problems otherwise.

Starting on Saturday, I did come down with some stomach ailment. It might be because I drank tap water, since I had run out of bottled water. Anyone else run into this? Seems to be getting better now.

    Phones

    Sperto,

I did not know the existence of interestadual phone cards.

Does it means that there are two types of reload cards? The state and the interstate ones?

TIM personell should know but they guided me to the lottery procedure instead.

Thank you anyway. That makes sence and things easier.

    El Greco,
Let say you buy a pre-paid SIM-card in Rio with Oi or Tim.
Then you go to Fortaleza and there you run out of credits.
What you have to do is buying a refill/recarga that works interestadual.
On the back of the card it will tell you if it works for the state of RJ.
(For example: Este cartão é válido apenas para os clientes pré-pagos da TIM no DF, AC, AM, AP, ES, GO, MA, MS, MT, PA, RJ...etc)
If the card isn´t interestadual, and includes RJ, it won´t work.

    Hey Jaimito Cartero!

You're going to be in Rio for a month? That's a long time -- you might get the P4P soul-sickness-blues. I get it in SP when I punt for like a week straight with 2-3 girls/night. The cure? More tail!

Anyway, if you get the chance can you check out "Florida Bar/Boite" (not sure) in downtown? It's on one of the main routes taxi drivers take from the Rio airport, as you're coming up on Copa. It looks huge, primitive, old-school and well worth a visit. I think there're also a few other smaller boites next to it.

I like these "natives-only" places. Outside of Copa, SP and Fortaleza, most of Brasil looks like these downtown-area clubs. Good, cheap action with lots of Brasilian bierhaus flavor. Don't be overly concerned about security.

    TIA,
    JWadd

P.S. Vila Mimosa is also a fun trip. It is a little skid-row, though. Bring a pistol, fly-swatter and dictionary (all for the ladies).

    Bubbaboy's guide

i printed out bb's report and have been using it extensively. if you're coming here, it's a good read. since i'm in rio for almost a month, i thought i'd try some of the less travelled places.

one place he mentioned was the miami peep show down the street from monte carlo. i went a few days ago, the name on the front is miami show club. it's your basic sex shop, with porno booths downstairs. $1r works for 3 minutes. nothing too exciting there, but they did have one video that peta would have objected to. each token is $1r, and the guy said you could refund them if you didn't use them.

upstairs you have about a dozen booths and one or two dancers on a rotating bed. $1r per minute. i saw three chicas, and two were pretty bad, and one was very nice. nothing too out of the ordinary here.

they have solo rooms, that you get a private show in. $5r for 2 minutes, again using the tokens. when i went, they had 10 girls there to choose from. i sat and watched the mop brigade go into action each time a guy came out. even used some air freshener too.

each of the chicas has a picture with a number. you go into the booth and put your tokens in, and then push the buttons selecting the chica. your time doesn't start until she comes into the room. there is a plexiglass window between you, with some holes for talking to her. there is also a 4 inch space at the very top, that you can just get your hand into.

the chica i got must have been working there for years, because the pic was ooooooold. she was nice enough, and proceeded to give my finger a bbbj, and then put her ass up to the top so i could finger whatever hole i wanted.

the sperm mopping guy told me that you could have a dupla in there if you put in $50r.

interesting if you're bored, you can even go around the corner to the church and light a candle when you're done.

Rio Food - Kilograma Churrascaria - Copacabana

I travel about 4 months of the year, and while I love the women, I really like to go to new places, and eat good food. (If you see my stomach, you'll know what I mean!).

Hopefully Jackson will add a food section, so I can put my reports there.

I've eaten in Churrascarias in north and south America, but the best so far was in Argentina (Rodizio's). John Thompson of Rio Rentals 4 Less, recommended a semi-local place that I'll write about later.

It seems that I'll eat one large meal and maybe a couple of sandwiches on a normal day. John had mentioned Kilogram a semi upscale place, so thought I'd try that last night.

They charge 2.79R per 100 grams. Or an all you can eat (except dessert/drinks) for 27.90R. Since I hadn't eaten for 16 hours, I went with the latter. While at first I wasn't sure if I made the right choice, I had them weigh one plate, so I know I got a decent deal (weight/price wise). You obviously need to eat more than a kilo for that deal to work out.

The restaurant is very nice, but only paper napkins. The salad/sushi bar is pretty huge. I took 4 or 5 pics just of it! I was however, a bit disappointed with the meat. While of a decent quality, it was actually below quality compared to the other Churrascaria I ate at 1/2 the price.

They do heavily salt all the meat. I'm not sure if that's just Brazilian style, or they want to sell you a lot of drinks. Bottled water is 2R.

If you want nice and fancy, this is a good place. Quality was good, but nothing exceptional. You get your own meat here, so that's a bit of a pain as well. Total damage R$29.90.

    Cellular phones

I always bring my cellular phone to Brazil. I'll buy a phonecard, for example in Rio. When I go to Manaus or Fortaleza I'll buy new a phonecard and get a new number. This is excellent as the caboclas can't call me when I´m back in Rio.

A choice is to buy a re-fill in Manus and reload my Rio-simcard. Buy it in a Banca da Revista. Ask for cartão interestadual. The problem is that this way the local calls become very expensive, and very few girls will call a Rio-number in Manaus.

    Cheers,
    Sperto

Just put 90902188xxxxxxx and you can too call collect. How to identify a collect call, when you hear this automated message. Now if you keep listening and yhe call gets through you'll pay.

To call other state is rather simple 90 + area code + number.

    Have fun.
