    Non-latex product

    Thanks Snooky,

Yes I was aware of that and made the suggestion in an earlier post.

However, my experience is that the non-latex brands are not as strong, and abandoned using them as a result. But, faced with the problem we have been discussing here, I may have to use them after all. Lesser evil kind of reasoning.

Maybe put on a new one in mid-stroke, to make sure of its strength. Isn't it funny, the lengths we are prepared to go to, just to get a little pussy?

    Sidhartha ,

If you are worried about condoms deteriating <sp?> using an oil based lube (with or without a "caine") switch to Avanti, they are made of polyurethane and can be used with any lube.

    Lidocaine - over the counter?

Is Lidocaine available over the counter in Brazil? If so, that could be another solution. Buy it yourself, make sure with a Brazilian chemist that it is a water-based cream, and use that if a girl wants something. Since it is a Brazilian product the girls will probably accept it.

On the other hand, it is not safe for someone to use it repeatedly, especially in a circumstance where it could be getting into the bloodstream through broken blood vessels. Lidocaine is also used as a drug for heart ailments ... but I guess Brazilian authorities will have to tell the girls that.

    medical questions

I am a physician assistant who specializes in dermatology. I will also be arriving this week in Rio for my 16th trip in 5 years. If anyone has medical questions, they can PM me, and I will do whatever I can to help out.

    Xylocaina

The Xylocaina that I have is definitely water based, this is the clear gel, 2%. From memory the ointment is a white substance, pretty sure this is water based as well, it comes off instantly in water.

    Re: Lidocaine

I think this debate over lidocaine should be held in another part of the forum (ie, WSG->Special Interests->Safe Sex).

Lidocaine is Xylocaine (xylocaina). It is a local anesthetic and is commonly found in anal lubricants even here in the USA. Although the bottle suggests it is for homosexual use (thus making it an awkward purchase at your area CVS and while passing through Brazilian customs checkpoints), I always bring some of this stuff (http://www.adultsupermart.com/adult-sex-toys-806.html) down to Rio de Janeiro with me along with KY and American condoms. The bottle says it is water-based and contains lidocaine.

Best not to raise unnecessary concerns about these kinds of things unless you have research to back up your own worries. Besides, the worrying type is not often the guy who is found ***** mongering and having anal sex with the putas in Rio.

    No worries- have fun.

    Other thoughts about "caines"

    Other thoughts about lidocaine:

    1) Lidocaine can cause oison by ingestion and subcutaneous routes (in large or FREQUENT) doses). Excitement, hallucinations, distorted perceptions, changes in heart rate, and dyspnea. It is an anesthetic rapidly absorbed by mucous membranes. Excessive doses may cause methemoglobinemia. Believe it or not, anal is a "route" of ingestion.

    2) Many are, or can develop an allergy to the "caine" family. If you use a product to delay orgasm, then you're probably using a "caine" product and it's probably lidocaine. If after using these (including the condoms that specifically advertise to delay orgasm, AND you've noted some increasing itching, don't be surprised if it's an allergy to the lidocaine (or the laytex).

    3) There are many specific products with lidocaine that are safe for sexual activity with a condom. However, many are also petroleum-based and will damage latex (a fact that should be very well known by anyone here). So, caveat emptor.

    About Atlantico Copacabana

When I stayed there about two years ago I had no hassle about girls visiting. They didn't even check IDs.

When I asked them a week ago they said the same thing, no guest fee. I was very specific about the matter. They do ask that girls be over 18.

When you are booking a room, make sure you ask for a double - the rates are the same for double and single. And, as added insurance, mention the girl issue and make sure everyone understands there is no guest fee involved.

About Karla Models, I tried Patricia and Bebel (small tits if you are a tit man) that I remember. I do not remember the other. Both had very nice attitudes and were willing to do anal - with their little tubes of lidocaine. You must have read my views on that.

    Follow up on Novocaine

It doesn't really matter whether they use novocaine or lidocaine, they are all topical local anesthetics. (Incidentally Novocaine was the original trade name for lidocaine - a substance synthesized from cocaine.) The critical information is whether the drug is contained in an oil-based substance, like vaseline, or water based. If it is water based it is probably safe for latex. If it is oil-based then there is serious potential danger. Can you tell, looking at a tube printed in Portuguese, and sporting an erection that is simply dying to get into some place?

Bubba Boy, you will not be able to tell if a condom has been affected. The 'holes' are minute - so tiny that even bacteria cannot get through. But a virus, being smaller, can. And it is the virus we are all worried about, right? Hepatitis, HIV, that kind of stuff.

I dont want to disturb anyone unnecessarily. But I am not going to try anything where the girl uses one of these ointments. And I take my own KY, just to make sure the girls are not using something they shouldn't. There's wats around it, like using the newer non-latex condoms. But they are not as strong, so be careful.

To answer Lorenzo's question, the Rio girls have started using novocaine before anal.
Incidentally, what I have said about oil-based lubricants and latex is not rare knowledge. You may even find it written on a box of condoms! Certainly if you search on the Internet. But it is surprising how many people do not know.

    Xylocaina (Xylocaine)

For the record most girls in Rio use Xylocaina and not novocain for preparation before anal sex. It is a local anesthetic and applied a couple of minutes before anal. The active incredient (lidocaine) is available in 2% & 5% strenghts.

I have used it a few times and it did not deteriate the condom in anyway. Usually when oil based products are used with condoms they basically break, never heard of this occuring with Xylocaina, well not in any numbers greater than normal.

    Sidharta,

Could you be a little more specific? For precisely which "especial [sic] services" and "acts" are these girls using novocaine? I have neither experienced nor heard of this. And do you mean that they apply it to the man or to themselves? The only thing I can think of is that she may rub it on her asshole in preparation for anal sex? Is that what you mean? Please elucidate!

    2) Avoid drinks made with ice as much as possible.

    3) Be selective where I eat salad and mixed fruits.

    4) Drink only bottled water. This one is tricky because in certain countries some are just bottled tap water or water straight from the river or well. Yes I am sure because I have seen it in some countries, and I also have some "knuckle head" cousins who are in this business in my native country, and they get away with it by paying off the government officials. I always ask local the best bottled water because they know bad ones.

    5) Always use a Hand Sanitizer.
Definitely some good advice. You may run into a few problems implementing this in Brazil.

First, drinking only from sealed bottles isn't always possible. A lot of the lower-end bars only serve beer in a "garrafa" -- a 600 ml recycled glass bottle. The custom is for two or more people to share the bottle using individual glasses. That way the table can order another ice cold garrafa when the last one runs out. (Brazilians are crazy for super-cold light beer) This is a nice social custom I would hate to miss. Its a very Brazilian thing.

Drinking straight from a garrafa would look impossibly gauche -- like some wino swilling down a cold quart of Colt 45 in an alley. If you insist on drinking from a sealed bottle, you need to find a more upscale place that serves longnecks (pronounced LONG-a-nek-eh in Brazil).

Second, hand sanitizer is rarely available. Hell, half the time the johns in bars don't even have soap and paper towel. Bring your own if you want to go this route.

Third, ice is often safer than you think. My bar buys its ice from a local ice vendor every night. Electricity is so damn expensive in Brazil that an ice machine doesn't always pay for itself. Plus we have bad water out of the tap. For all of our bar drinks we buy "gelo filtrado" -- ice made with purified water that is safe for using in drinks. I think most bars go the extra mile and buy the filtrado, but you could always ask.

Finally, bring the Imodium anyway. Despite your best efforts you will probably get the shits anyway. Brazil is a truly beautiful, and despicably filthy country.

    Novocaine and health issues

I apologize if this topic has come up before - I don't read this board religiously (sorry Board!).

In the last two years almost all girls in Rio seem to have taken to using Novocaine (or similar) ointments for certain especial services. I tried to read the label, but couldn't tell exactly what the ingredients were (they use different brands anyway).
The point is, most likely these are ointments made with petroleum jelly - vaseline, petrolatum, whatever. And that substance, being oil-based, degrades the integrity of latex condoms - it allows virus to pass through, including hepatitis and HIV.

Are people aware of it and doing something about it? My solution was to not do any act that would require the girls using the stuff - next time I will try to be better prepared. Not everyone knows about this, I have found, and it is a serious potential health issue.

    Response about Karla, etc.

Snooky, no I am not sure about R100 for an hour at Karla Models. There are always language issues, even if the other side speaks English.

I am basing it on the fact that one of the girls said after an hour and 15-20 minutes that time was running out. She was quite nice, and we were simply chatting at that point. Next time I will clarify it with the Madam - whether it is one hour or two. Maybe push for two hours.

About an apartment and critters, folks should keep in mind that in tropical countries it is hard to keep critters out, especially when you open windows etc. It should not get to the point of infestation, but a few critters, especially ants, crawling around is normal. The best solution is to buy (or take) a can of insecticide and spray it near doors, windows and openings (wires etc) when you are leaving for a few hours. And keep all foods in the fridge.

I still question whether a non-serviced room, with no telephone, is good value for 130 reais, when you can get a good hotel room, with breakfast, daily linen changes and no guest fee, in a central location, for 150-200 real. Maybe if you are staying for a month or so - but for a week or 10 days?

This includes breakfast and you dont have to rent a phone. So, apartments are not necessarily a good deal in Rio, and you dont always get your money's worth.

ESCORTS: Karla was consistent in asking 100 real an hour plus taxifare. Two of their girls were about 4-5, one was 6 or 7. So , worth taking a chance.
ahead and chomp down your antibiotics. But you may want to start with the older ones, like Amoxicillin. It is not necessary firing the heavy guns right away.
    Hi Sidhartha,

Thanks for the nice report. Do you think Atlantico Copacabana would let escorts in without much hassle or fee?

Who did you try from Karla's?

    Kaysar
