    D said,
"We can blame him for alot of things, but for the improved Dollar vs the Real?"

I was actually only joking. But as you see some of our other members bit the bait and started trying to argue against Bush.

The point is really that it is actually a bit silly to try to blame the Dollars value vs. the Real on the president. But for some reason as a couple of people here just proved, some try to do that!

Personally, I wish people would stick to the purpose of this forum.

And, yes, I brought up the point. But I was only a joking in an attempt to reference last year when we had a lot of problems with people using the forum as a place for political debates.

Im being quoted at least a 1000 for march!! anyone care to go down memory lane and quote what they were paying 2 years ago for airfare compared to now.I remember paying 650.00 with a 3 to 1 exchange rate. now its 1000 with a 2.35 rate.
    try this consolidator www.braziliantravel.com/indexx.htm

    or this one http://bacctravel.com/

Also as bubba said try going in april might have a better chance with ff miles or lower fares

    Joe

Try a website like this http://www.kayak.com

It searches alot of flights that you or a travel agent may not think of. If still no result try late March or April. DEC-MAR is the busiest period for Rio, hence you will get better luck just outside those dates. I am pretty sure you will get something around the USD$600 mark, just need to hunt around a bit.

I see a lot of fighting in some of the forums latley and I don't know why. It sounds like bickering women. Let's agree to disagree. Please start talking about pussy and stop acting like it.

The truth is that with all the additional spending by Bush's government, the US is sinking deeper and deeper into debt. Right? So therefore, in the longterm, eventually the US will have to raise interest rates to higher levels to compensate for the deficit. Higher interest rates will mean slower economy, but higher dollar value (ie, Brazil right now). Am I right, or am I right? In this regard, George Bush is doing us a favor in the longterm. Who says the US government isn't looking out for its own?

But other than that, Bush is a disaster.

I've always paid between US$600-700, from LAX. This was great around 2002, when the Real-USD ratio was 4:1. Now I've moved to a small city in the Southeastern US, so I have to pay more now that I no longer live in a major hub. However, the FF miles add up rather quickly. If your schedule is reasonable flexible, just wait until the fares go down, them grab the first low fare you can find; they usually don't last long. The airlines usually post new fares on Wednesday, effective at midnight (although the time zone may vary from airline to airline). So the best time to look for airfares is very early Wednesday morning.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you go to the websites of each of the major airlines and get on their e-mail list. They will mail you a list of their domestic and international promotional fares, which will often include Rio or Sao Paolo. American is the best, United and Continental so-so, Delta sucks. As far as using FF miles, I never had a problem finding seats as long as I was flexible regarding dates and length of stay. Maybe things have changed.

Keep at it; something will turn up.

You also believed that the dollar/real would close at 2.11 at the end of the year. Today it closed at 2.34 and the dollar is on the upswing. how does it feel to believe in things that are not so.

My, you are a cocky bastard, aren't you? That's four--four!--gratuitous digs you've taken at me. What, exactly, is your problem? Taking cheap shots at others is usually a way of covering up for one's own inadequacies. I'd say 'honi soi qui mal y pense,' if I thought you knew what it meant.

Well, I'm an experienced monger and I fell for it. Don't be so cocky; I'm sure similar things have happened to you, but you're just not honest enough to talk about them. I am mentioning these things to try to be helpful to other mongers, just as I appreciate having received such helpful tips myself in the past. So your sarcasm is unwarranted.

No, I wasn't wearing them in Help, because I don't go to Help. And when did I ever say that the girls were giving me a hard time in Help?

    Takeout service

I have previously publicly confessed to this: until my last trip I had not ever been inside a terma in Rio. (Yes, yes, I know, snicker all you want ) So my entire mongering experience collection had been with take-out.

I have picked up girls at Help! (amateurs and pros), some non-pros at Girl of Ipanema bar and Plataforma, some pros at Frank's, a couple of strippers at Franks and Barbarella (strangely never had to pay an exit fee), a couple of girls at Holiday (rippoff exit charge and $200 bar tab, but one of the girls was a real find), and a few working girls at Hooker Beach and in front of Mab. At a few other places, too, but I don't recall names any more.

Looking back, I feel that I was extremely lucky. I never had a real problem with any of the girls. I do not speak Portuguese worth a lick; so I always only picked girls with at least a little bit of English knowledge. And I never walked off with them right away, always first made sure that we had a bit of chemistry.

I always stayed at hotels. This gives you a bit of protection in that the girl has to register at the reception with her ID. So that's a bit better than an apartment.

Twice I got a bit worried. Once I took a girl back, right away she went to the bathroom, and then I hear this snorting noise, like she is doing coke. So I am freaked and rip open the bathroom door, ready to throw her druggie ass out. Ooops, she was just blowing her noise and clearing her throat. Very embarrissing! VERY!

The other time I took back what turned out to be a real freak. She wanted me to choke her during sex, told me that is the only way she comes. I told her I wouldn't do it. So she started choking herself with this piece of cloth around her throat. I threw her out.

All other times the girls were just great. However, no let's make this a capital HOWEVER: I never ever slept well with girls in my room. Yes, I had everything locked up in my safe. But that still left the safe key that I needed to put under my body during sleeping. And you never know what happens when you sleep. So these nights always tended to be a bit of stress for that reason.

Last trip to Rio I only did take-out with two girls from terma L'uomo (multiple nights, though; I reported on this extensively). And I slept fine (well, between sex acts, that is). Main reason: I was convinced that I was able to trust these girls, because they knew that I knew where to get a hold of them if there were problems. After all, I knew where they worked. And what girl wants to give up a great job at a terma just to rip a guy off for a few hundred bucks.

Brazilian bankers are buying dollars in order to strengthen it against the Real, hopefully soon the dollar will appreciate at least 20% from where it is and make our hobby more affordable.
