Moema is not far.

The Parthenon Times Square Colonnades, rua Jamaris in Moema (at the same location you'll find also the Times Square Diamond which is also good, yet a few clicks behind) is from what I know the most luxurious Parthenon in town. It's anyway the most expensive, this being relative, as the rates are only 20/30 reals higher than the other ones. The apartments are modern, bright and clean, with wooden floors, nice bathrooms, ect .... really nice. Yet swimming pool is so-so and shaded.

It's just in front of the Music Hall, where there's often good MPB concerts, and at walking distance to Ibirapuera Mall, which is very convenient for day-time strolls. Many restaurants in the area too. Neighbourhoods like Itaim, Vila Olimpia, Brooklin and Jardins are close. Yet Pinheiros (Bomboa) and Centro are quite far.

Also in Moema, rua Macuco, just on the other side of the av Ibirapuera yet closer to the Mall is the Parthenon Privilege, quite good too. There's in the hotel a convenient 24 hours Italian restaurant (they have a very popular feijoada on Saturdays, highly recommanded) with a pleasant little terrace overlooking the street.

The rates are a little cheaper than at the Parthenon Colonnades, because it's older. Yet the apartments remain very correct.

I wrote to at least one of the Parthenons and asked explicitly if I could have guests for no extra charge and the answer was "yes, no problem".

Also here are the Parthenons and their dates of construction. As you can see, only the St. Germain and the Les Jardins are long in tooth. The rest are all pretty recent vintage.

The last years I always stayed at the Hilton, Av. Ipiranga.

Since it is shut down somebody posted the Mercure Down Town is literally around the corner. Can anybody give me the exact name and address? On the www.accor.com it is confusing. The name Down Town never appears.

getting around sp safely and efficiently (forest and rovnak)

metro
upside: fast, clean and reliable. best option in daytime if your destination is near one of the stations. all travel guides confirm this

downside: many destinations are not near the stations.
nighttime metro: generally, not recommended for nighttime travel.

taxis
upside: pretty cheap. two rates, bandeira a (before 10pm) and bandeira b (after 10pm).

downside: traffic can be very bad and distances can be very large depending on point a and point b.

finding a safe taxi
hotels in sao paulo all have taxi stands right outside their doors. these stands are populated by drivers whom are approved by the hotel. the same is true of the boites (or at least the ones that i know, such as bomboa and millenium). however, waving down a taxi on the street is dicey. this is how people get robbed or worse. nevertheless, i have done it and have lived to tell the tale. i will say, however, that these are the cab drivers who have tried to charge me double.

if you are in need of a reliable taxi, it is usually a good idea to look for a major hotel and use the cabs lined up outside. remember, work is hard to find in sao paulo, and if you complain, these cab drivers could loose the right to line up outside of whatever location that they work.

taxi alternate suggestion: if you can find a reliable cabbie that actually knows his way around, book him in advance and keep him for four hours for approx 120r so that he can wait for you while you take care of business. if you are traveling with 2 or 3 friends this may make a lot of sense.

surface travel planing in sp
prepare by getting familiar with the locations of the places you want to go. the best resource for this is the yahoo.com.br "mapas" feature. there you can enter a source address (say your hotel) and a destination address (say bomboa's address), and it will show you the route and also the taxi fare. for instance most of the taxi fares from my base in jardim paulista look to be between 10r for the near places and up to 40r (one way) for the further places.

tip - prepare some index cards with the addresses you are considering visiting. then show the card to the taxi driver to avoid miscommunication. the street names are ridiculously unmemorable in sp. on the front of the card write "bomboa american bar" and on the back the full address. show the taxi driver the address first, and if he is still confused show him the establishment name. and if he is still confused, get another cab.

walking in sp
as for walking in the streets in sao paulo- it’s like any other big city. never recommended at night except in crowded areas. never. it’s just as dangerous as walking at night in rio. remember that if you travel alone you are an easier target for bad guys.

good places to stay

jardins, from all accounts, is one of the nicest areas of sp and one of the best places to stay. listed below are two moderately priced hotels in this are, but there are plenty of others that are probably more luxurious and a lot more money. if you will be having "guests", book a double and sign your guest in as required, the hotel should ask no additional fees. e-mail any hotel to confirm this before booking if you want absolute assurance of no guest fees.

jwadd recommends mercure downtown which is in centro and is adjacent to love story -- "the epicenter of sex in s.p. (more or less)". hilton morumbi also gets high marks. centro is a gritty neighborhood and not for the faint of heart.

pluto2 recommends any of the accor properties for price and performance, there are many luxurious alternatives that are more money. mercure jardins is a good start for a first trip, if you have more money stay at the renaissance one block away. any property in jardins is a 10r ride from centro attractions and jardins is central to the entire city. many of the best restaurants, stores, hotels and shopping centers are in jardins.

with any of these places, do not ask the staff to clean up after the party in your room or you will be completely frozen out by the hotel staff. brazilians are not prueds, but respect is everything. save your shopping bags for clean up, i started to pick up and was surprised to see the garotas crawling around on the floor picking up wrapers and various other articles lost in the heat of the moment.

Day 4 tour de clinicas

Since I relocated for business for a few days to Brooklin, I decided to check out the clinicas during the day. After it absolutely poured cats and dogs at noon, I set out at about 1:30 for a bit of a grand tour.

After getting a look at a local map I realized that Campo Belo and Brooklin are not too far from one another, I knew they were adjacent but I wasn't sure on the distances. So I decided to see as many lineups as possible in area first, only stopping if there seemed a sure thing.

Stop 1 - cab to Bermudas. I was curious about this place since it has a lot of good reviews on gpguia.net. No internet photos on site. So I wanted to see what they had. After taxi had difficult time finding place, I arrive and happily they present their lineup live, one after the other. They had 11 girls available. I met all 11, and I was only intrigued by about 2. So I said, thanks no thanks and went on my way.

Stop 2 - not raining now, so walk sevaral blocks from Bermudas to Clinica Brooklin. They have photos on wall but they also presented lineup live. I was not taken by any of the available girls, but I did see one come out to go off with the customer in front of me who I really liked the look of. That was Michelle. and I think she looks better in person than the photos on site. There were also photos on the wall of a beautiful blonde named Camilla who was in session (naturally).The early bird promocau was 100R complete, no tipping. Good deal, but I put it on back burner. I said "i may come back in an hour for either Camilla or Michelle. I didn't but this is close to my hotel so I may go there tomorrow.

Stop 3 - the Campo Belo - Congonhas cluster. I knew from my prior mapping effort that there were 4 clinicas withing several blocks of one another near Congonhas - Cherry, and Chantily, La Fleur de Jour, Francebel. I decided to circle in that order and see Francebel last since it supposedly had nicest and priciest girls. I figured I would see it last then decide to stay or return to one of the others. It was a cool day after the showers, so I walked nearly the whole way from Brooklin to Campo Belo, but took a cab for the last few blocks when I came to a big hill and realized I might not have much in the tank for the real sport.

Cherry - good price 130R no tipping. They had a live lineup. No great lookers. I knew from internet photos that I was really only interested in Sophia. She was not working today. So off I went to next stop down the road. Walked two short blocks from Cherry to Chantily.

Chantily - best pricing of all - 100R 1hr complete. Again, I knew I was looking for one in particular, morena Raquel based on internet photos and reviews. She was busy naturally. They had very small staff, book with only 7 girls and only 4 working that time. Raquel was supposed to free up at 4:00. So I said "Maybe, I'll come back at 4:00 for Raquel". I should have said "I definitely will come back" but I was not sure at the time. Walked about 6 short blocks to La Fleur de Jour.

La Fleur de Jour - pricing 160R complete. No live lineup, just pix on wall. I was interested in mulata Roseanne but she was busy for 40 more minutes. A Morena Sabrina also looked good and was free. Some others were pretty nice, but I forget names. I was tempted, but I figured, I came this far, I might as well see Francebel first. So I walked the five more blocks to Francebel. This was the only tricky walk as the required turns confused me at one point and I had to double back a block.

Francebel - definitely a different establisment from the others. Large staff of receptionists and security. Different facilities. Pricing - 120 to house, 50 to massagista, and then negotiate for extras - probable total 270-320. No live lineup, only picture gallery. Now, I have been to 5 lower end places that very day, so everything is fresh in my mind. And I went around that gallery and there was no single girl that was better than what I had already passed on. So I said, "so long". And since it was approaching 4:00 I went back to Chantily.

Chantily - 2nd visit 4:00. Unfortunately, while I was touring the neighborhood, someone called and reserved Raquel. So I thought it through, and said "Ok, I want a reservation for Raquel at 5:30". They said ok. And I headed back round the corner to La Fleur.

La Fleur de Jour -2nd visit 4:15 - I found that Roseanne had 10-15 more minute left so I decided to wait. This would me cutting it real close in orde to get back to Chantily for Raquel at 5:30. They let me into room, so I showered ahead of time, and at 4:30 precisely Roseanne walks in. She looks just like pictures. Probably mid 30s but body is well kept. Fantastic butt, probably best I'd seen in SP so far. Smouldering style, not bubbly. She is from Bahia. I said "I'm not interested in massage, so we went right to it. Some foreplay, good kissing, and then multiple positions. DS was outrageously good view. She was enthusiastic, and like I said, smouldering eyes throughout. At 5:15 I hit the mark. First thing that crosses my mind, is "I guess I don't see Raquel now." But after a quick shower, I thought, what the hell, for 100R I'll just take the massage. So I bolted, though I think Roseanne wanted me to stay the remaining 10 minutes, since she was just reclining there naked on the small bed when I left.

Now comes the fun part. I'm walking from La Fleur to Chantily. And I'm thinking, "man, I'm hungry. I have only had breakfast and now its 5:20" And voila, just like that I pass a small bar/restaraunt. I walk up to the bar, as for a big Skol beer. Then I ask the waiter if they have any immediate food. He brings an appetizer skewer of beef squares. I munch down two of those skeweres, sprinkeled with some manioc flour, down the beer, pay the bill and I'm out of there at 5:28. Meal pit stop in precisely 7-8 minutes.

Chantily - 3rd visit 5:32 - Yes, I'm two minutes late. No problem. They are expecting me And they give me another beer on the house. Send me into room. I shower and then Raquel pokes her head into shower. Wow, she has a beautiful face. Nicest face I have seen all day. She is early 20s but she is a little soft around the gut, probably from child. But body is still nice and I am not dissappointed in look at all. After all, I'm just there for the 100R massage. So i lay down, she rubs me down very professionally, very nice massage for about 10 minutes. Then she starts doing Thai massage on my back, and I start thinking "hmm, i may take more than the massage after all." Great Thai massage for about 5 minutes. Then I roll over and she gives me some of the best tongue kissing I have ever received. She says she loves to kiss me. I'm definitely in for more than the massage now. So we go off to the races and she is one hell of a performer. I don't know how loud she was because she was yelling right into my ear but she was enjoying it and she was even giving me directions on her favorite positions. With all the oil from the Thai massage were slipping and sliding just fabulously. And at 6:25, I said "bastante" and we lay still for a bit, then I showered and left with her number. All for 100R.

So that completed the tour. 6 establishments, 2 really good full hour sesions for a total of 260R. Not a bad day.
