You will be fine when you walk over to SM. It's not like the place is crawling with beggars. About 80 or 90 percent of them are women with kids roaming around Fields all day long. You will see the same faces over and over again. They can be quite persistant and you might have to learn how to deal with them but the best way is not to give them any money.
