Spoke with some Korean guys in Viking last night who pretty much shared the same sentiment as us regarding the AC decline. One guy had a 50% runner rate. They were under the impression the Koreans were more susceptible to this and the girls don't pull that shit with westerners. I set him straight.

The AC bars are struggling to find girls, so everything is stacked in the girls' favour. The whole business model is fucked. If you pay the full amount upfront, there is little incentive for the girl to perform. Besides, a PHP 3,000 all inclusive fee (or PHP 1,800 at the Perimeter) is considered too small to warrant any sincerity, honesty, contractual obligation or customer service from the girls. They just don't care.

P. Burgos, Makati girls provide a much better quality of service as the payment is split. The bar fine is paid before take out and the girls' payment is made afterwards. Also, we are talking about prices which are 2-3 times that of AC, so that in itself produces some sort of moral obligation to perform.

I doubt if there is a hard and fast rule. If so all the ugly girls would be out. These days bars are hard pressed to stock up the bars with girls. They need min three rotations of at least 8-10 girls to keep functioning.

In my experience of getting to know some BGs in SG, they do have weekly and monthly targets for LDs, they call it points and they do need to hit a certain target in a week. Otherwise the girls just sit there all night on their phones or chat!

We all know that some bars are doing it hard due to low levels of punters and due to less girls wanting to enter the business when compared to say 10-years ago. I have often thought that if I was a bar owner, what would I do differently to increase my only two sources of revenue drink sales and bar fines?

The number one thing punters expect in a bar is a line of up attractive, slim young woman. No one wants to enter a bar to see a line up of fat, unattractive woman on stage, which is presently the case in most of the bars in AC. If the bars were full of hot woman, the punters would come, drink and bar fine. The party atmosphere which people are seeking would quickly return. The tourists would go home and tell their friends about it and numbers would increase.

It's obvious the bars just can't get any hot looking woman. Maybe the best ones get snapped by the Korean run places. Maybe poor girls just don't want to work in a bar anymore. BKK introduced coyote dancers simply because the punters wanted some eye candy while they drank their beers. It was easier to get theses girls because they didn't have to bar fine. Perhaps the AC bar owners could go down this route.

The unemployment rate in the Philippines is 5%, so anyone with a pulse can get a job. The basic dancers' salary is around PHP 7,500 (before LD commissions and bar fines), so it's similar to the minimum wage for an unskilled worker in the Philippines. Any girl can get an ordinary, respectable job and then have the option of playing the dating game on the side with a cheap smart phone. With a couple of meet ups during the month, and maybe a sponsorship from someone abroad, she would be pulling close to what the bar girl is making any way, but with an easier life. Somewhere in the region of PHP 20,000 I would guess. Social media has opened up a lot more options for girls wanting to earn a reasonable wage.

Where's all this headed? The real competitor for the bars is economic progress. The country has a very low unemployment rate, overseas demand for Filipina workers remains high and social media can be exploited by adventurous girls. Girls don't have to dance on a podium in high heels for 6-nights a week and go with fat, smelly foreigners in order to survive.

In AC, I think the specialty Korean emperor golf model and other variations of it will continue to expand. Some bars for Westerners will remain, but you can see this is a decline which can't be stopped.
