I checked out of my hotel in Manila and asked at reception if they could book a taxi for me to Angeles. They told me it would cost 5000 but when I told them the same trip cost 3000 last year they told me the new price includes a 300 toll each way on the NLEX highway. We agreed on 4000 but I suspect I overpaid. In hindsight I regret not taking a taxi to Araneta Central Bus Terminal and one of the hourly Philippine Rabbit buses (180-440 pesos).

I was charged 2500 for a private taxi 3 months ago but got a higher quote of 3000 for a future trip I was trying to arrange. You can taxi to Araneta and wait for the Angeles bus with everyone else but an alternative is to taxi to Terminal 3 and hop on the Genesis Busses that are usually waiting there at the top of the hour for a direct ride to SM Clark. Those Genesis busses use the expressway so they are pretty quick to get through the city. Your looking at a 300 peso Grab ride to Terminal 3 and 400 pesos for the bus to Angeles (give or take a few pesos). I've done both but will say if your not familiar with the Araneta bus station you can easily miss it.

The journey took two hours and I checked in to my hotel, Penthouse, at 2. 15 pm. The deposit for the room is a whopping 4000 pesos, which seems odd to me as it means I'll have 4000 pesos burning a hole in my pocket as I head to the airport in a week's time. My room on the 11th floor is fabulous though, possibly the best I've ever stayed in. It's like a boutique hotel room with very stylish decor, a free standing bath and about hundred pillows and cushions on the bed. It cost 395 pounds for seven nights via Agoda, about 56 pounds (4000 pesos) per night.

I had a few chores to do in the afternoon. Firstly I dropped off a big bag of clothes at a small laundrette on Vian Road, opposite my hotel. Then I found a pharmacy to get some throat lozenges as all of the cigarette smoke in LA Cafe has given me a sore throat. After a plate of chicken chow mein at Kokomoz, I stopped off at a 7 Eleven and stocked up on snacks for my room.

After whiling away a lazy afternoon in my room, writing this diary and swiping right a lot on Tinder, it was time to go for my first night on Fields Avenue.

I opted to start at my favourite bar from my trip a year ago, Viking, which has a pirate ship theme. The stage was crowded with about 40 girls and there was a row of ten girls dancing in front of the stage too. The girls wear badges with their names on. Hello Janice, Pearl and Apple. It wasn't just apparent how many more girls there are than a year ago but the quality of girls has increased too. Last year the bench at the front of the stage was packed with customers, today it was empty apart from a member of bar staff taking a nap. What on earth has happened to this bar?

But my faith in Angeles was about to be restored in spectacular fashion.

There was an average collection of girls on stage at Genesis but they were having lots of fun, largely because there was a group of three Korean men throwing 20 peso note rain-showers at them. The Koreans had a few very pretty girls with them that were dressed casually so I assumed had been barfined from another bar earlier in the night. But ten minutes later one of them walked past and went to sit with some girls on the other side of the bar. I just want to escape Songkran. Means I want to spend some days in an easy place. So, Angeles, or Macati would be the place to go, since I have been in these places already.

Cebu I don't know. Maybe it's a good place. I could go there, but I could also go to the Nang, Phnom Penh, Saigon, or Hanoi. But, this would mean I need to dive in and find more info, to avoid beginner mistakes.

Angeles, is easy since the Airport Clark has good connection to Bangkok. I know the place from 15 years ago. I like the Tequila Reef, I like that everything is close by.

Makati has the prettier girls, but the Agogos are ridiculous expensive. I don't like the Traffic in Manila, I don't like the Manila Airport.

It's Angeles, or the Nang, or Phnom Penh. If I can get a good advice, about what Hotel is nowadays the place to go in AC and where can I screen the local Freelance online (Webpage)? It might be AC.

Otherwise I might go Vietnam, or Cambodia.
