Posts: 22First time to AC have a few questions
I'm thinking of staying at the Wild Orchid Hotel do to it's close proximity to Santos and I have heard the pool is nice. I was quoted a balcony room overlooking the pool for P4, 400 VAT included per night. Does anyone have any knowledge of this place? I thought hanging out at the pool during the day would cool. Also does anyone know if I can buy high heels at the mall for the BG's to wear for me or buy them here and bring them with me to be sure. If anyone is going to be around I would like to find a wingman. I'll be there for a week arriving August 20th.
Thanks

I will be in Ac on July 26th and leave the 5th. of August. This is trip #5 and I have never had a problem at all. Your cherry trip you will be very nervous but like many of said you will meet alot of guys that will give you pointers along the way. I only carry enough cash to get thu the night, I have had to come back to the hotel for more cash but thats not a problem. I am not a heavy drinker at all and I advise not being one either. I have seen drunk guys taken advantage of.

Posts: 213I am with Blink completely. THEY are the racist MFs trying to keep EVERYBODY else out of "their" places.
The Koreans think they have their own places in the PI where no one else can go. They need to be confronted and challenged about that; they can do it in Korea, but the Philippines is a sovereign nation and they do not own it. I'd like to see even more hassling of Korean businesses by the police, mayor's office, the association of bar owners you name it. Everybody should gang up on them to make them feel unwelcome in every non Korean owned bar or hotel until they stop the discriminatory BS. Banning smoking in bars would have the same effect as they ALL chain smoke and would not stay long in any place that bans smoking (well they would light up anyway ignoring the ban until they were forced to put out their death sticks or leave-it is a shame that smoking related illness is so slow to develop!)

Posts: 2Thanks everyone. Your posts were both very informative and extremely helpful. All my major hang-ups have been resolved and I'm going to book my flight/hotel now. Just have to wait patiently until November now.
Thanks again

Posts: 4567AT2, this is an excellent post.
I try to put myself in the newcomers shoes, and post accordingly, but I rarely get the mood as you do so well in this post.
If you've never been to a third world country, it is (or should be) a life altering experience.
As for Manila is starts as you leave the airport, walk out the door and see hundreds of people standing behind the barriers....it may see like they are all looking at you. They are, for the moment.
DISCLAIMER: My first Philippines adventure included a seaside view of Mt. Mayon and a walk across "Shit River Bridge". This was the time before air travel.
Some neighborhoods look really run down and many Westerners equate that with high-crime areas. Well, you never know what can happen when people are desperate, but generally Filipinos are curious about you, usually not dangerous. I'm a big ugly American, and I've walked down some strange Philippine paths, but have always prevailed with my best weapon -- a smile.
If you are scared out of your boots, you will increase your risk. Look calm, and talk calmly to people. Smile. Don't be rude.
Oh, and let's be real, lock the doors of the taxi.
AS2, we need more post like that. Thanks. Got me to thinking all kinds of shit from my many PI adventures.

Just a theory....
The earlier Western bar shake downs were because the K places gave up a bit too much booty, and those who can do shakedowns tried to get the same from the Western oriented bars.
When Western oriented bars were reluctant, started talking about moving to a more friendly beachside place, just down the new road ...the shakedowners had a moment of reflection.
But of course the K places probably got an earful about how things work in Angels city ...so they decided to fall in line and pay the going rate. Shakedowners probably weren't happy with that at all, so they did the thing they believe will best increase cash flow.
Koreans are proud and stubborn, and usually good business men. It'll be interesting to see how things turn out.

Never carry more cash around as what you like to spend for the day/evening.
Which means if you draw from ATM just only take the cash with you, you really wanted to spend for this day..Deposit the rest in your hotel safety box or elsewhere..I m going to SEA since many years and now living here..I never got anything stolen in the Philippines..thailand yes..thats another story :D
Why im telling you this?? Cause the more you drink, the more you will e encouraged from the gurls to spend and buy and later you will find urself somewhere in ur hotel room, big head and the money from last night is just gone :D Happens to me all the time....
Secound, get a wing man who watch you on ur first barhopping..Kokomoz is ok to get some contacts..guys will sureley help you.
Third, if you smell trouble, walk away, no need to play the hero. Phils aint ur country, if u mess with one guy , you mess with them all :D.....so be smart, walk away, smile, you be ok
Fourth, avoid streethookers,if you want a gurl, barfine in the bar, avoid anything which will be offerd you on the street..Cialis, viagra , etc..ask some papa sans from bar , they will help you to get the right stuff.Check out the bar named "The club" if you into those things..Its allready been told many times, but I will tell it once more in here. AVoid any invitation from locals to a cardgame..or maybe house cooking, drinkin session etc etc etc..Its unusal for a normal filipino that they will approach you with something, exception is they want some thing from you..YOUR money :D so, skip those "people"
I guess that be all for today ....PM me for more info.I be around also ;-)

I have heard that PB (Pacific Breeze) usually has a good wireless Internet signal on most days (remember the hotel cannot do anything if the Internet service provider sucks and most of them here do suck).
#3 Sound to me like you have two category choices - #1 would be the BIG bars (Such as Doll house, Atlantis, Crystal Palace) in the big bars, you are far away from the girls as these are 2 and 3 story/level buildings. #2 would be the smaller bars up on perimeter road that are known to be customer friendly and not aggressive (perimeter bars prices average P60 for local drinks, vs P85-P95 for fields drinks). Perimeter bars I would suggest are LIA (lost in Asia), Roadies, Stargate, Honey Ko's, Fire and Ice, Emotions, Cherry's club and Stampede.
#4 - I live here so that would not be a problem, when it gets closer to your arrival, shoot me a PM and we can try to hook up and party around the town.
I can also suggest that if you are a newbie in town to go to the BIG TABLE (is the large wooden table) inside of Kokomo's sit down and order a drink, there are usually many guys at the BIG TABLE (both tourists and expats), just introduce yourself, tell them you are new in town and ask anyone if they would like to bar hop.
