If that were true, it would happen to most everyone who ate it. Why don't I get sick from eating street foods?

In the blue corner we have EDs 200 p fried fish, rice and steamed salad from a mom and pop store. They have no money for bulk buys so they go to the market every morning and buy what ever is fresh and available. Their menu is only 4 or 5 items so they buy just those ingredients. They buy enough for the day and when the ingredients run out they shut up shop and go home. Tomorrow they will do the same. Mum has never been to culinary school but the same dish has been cooked by women in her family for generations. Her mum made sure to show her how to cook it so its both delicious and healthy. Nuclear fision hot woks and lots of spices seal in the taste and kill any bugs. ED arrives, eats a delicious meal, chats to some of the people astonished to see a white guy there, a couple of girls even give him their number, and recommend a place around the corner that specialises in delicious chicken dishes. Both will do for tomorrow's lunch. Next time he comes for a meal, mom remembers him and picks out one of the bigger pieces of fish reserved for repeat visitors and serves up a larger pile of salads. ED is happy.

    Enjoy. G.

I doubt if Scorebirds will post pics but write them and ask if you want. I went to the bikini contest September 21 and had a great time.

I assume this was said in jest so let's continue the joke and contrast the two options:

In the red corner we have the 1000 p hamburger with fries and mayonnaise. The meat patty looks delicious and is made from Australian beef, imported a couple of months ago having passed through various wholesalers, distributors, and transport companies. Most had (barely) adequate refrigeration equipment and the frequent brown outs didn't let storage temps rise too much. Intermodal transfer saw boxes sitting on tables or docks waiting for the next carrier to arrive. The meat is bought in bulk, divided and minced with unused portions rechilled at each step for later use. It's expensive so staff have orders not to waste or dispose of anything. Said staff have no training or knowledge of food hygiene standards. They have never eaten the foods they prepare and serve. The end restaurant has an extensive menu of western dishes so it keeps numerous different ingredients on hand. Total throughput is high but the turnover of individual ingredients is low. Again, because of high costs all are kept until they are used. G eats his medium rare burger and it tastes pretty good but he wonders why he feels like shit the next day.

The local eateries everywhere can offer some great fare at a cheap price.

In Afghanistan, I had to do a lot of route studies, basically driving around a very rural area of the country seeing where would be a good route for the road I was working on. We ate in village cafes in towns of less than a hundred people, we were most likely the first foreigners ever to eat in these places, a government health inspector would have been shot had he tried to enforce hygiene standards there, that is if he didn't die of shock first.

We were always treated well, seated in places of honour and often not even charged. (We left some cash "to buy candy for the children".

Never got sick at any of them, never got shot either.

A local eatery here has no issues for me, I look for cute smiling serving staff and start asking about what is good and how it's made and return any suggestive comments, twice got lucky.

Go and spend 500 or 1000 for mass produced food where the only advantage is air conditioning, I would rather spend 150 p and have a chance of getting laid or at least of talking to some real local girls for a while.

My local favourite is a hamburger and hot dog place, 69 p for a loaded hot dog with drink (79 p for the hamburgers too). Lots of really cute high school girls hang out there, I know I cannot touch but some very nice eye candy, I like to catch them looking at me, it is fun to watch them blush and giggle, perhaps once they get used to me and when they turn 18.

If you don't know what's in the pots, just ask if it's Pagpag. They'll be happy to tell you how it's made and why theirs is better. Try to get the recipe if you enjoy an especially good one. That's Pagpag.

It says Cosmetic surgery on their card.

    1. DO they offer Liposuction and skin jobs for the fat old farts that wobble and along the streets up there.

    2. 10 years ago I took the virginity of a 19 year old (not a working girl) Chinese back here at home and it lasted a couple of years. One day she went back to China to see her parents. She came back with this cute little scar at the top end of her butt crack and I kept asking what had happened but she would never say. Last night we were back in bed after a many year gap and I asked her again. She said doctors had cut a bit of meat (maybe cartlidge or something) from in there and put in in her nose in some kind of nosejob. Funny thing was I never noticed her nose was different after the op but I noticed the scar at the top of her perfect little bottom. Seems like this one way you can tell if I girl has had a nose job. Moral of the story is. Check for scars above your girls butt cheeks before having children with her. The children might come out with her pre-surgery looks and end up looking like you instead of the current her.

Yeah, just the whole of Angeles City LOL. Most new mongers start on Walking Street and then move to other areas later.

I think many of us are intrigued why you would travel all this way for 1 night in AC? Did you not read anything on Makati?

The best food I have ever eaten was from riverside fish farms. If you order 3 shrimp and a fish, they walk out the back and pull 3 shrimp and a fish out of the cages in the river and cook it up there and then. Poor things are still flapping around when they hit the wok. Tastes absolutely beautiful with salads out if grandma's garden and locally grown spices.

Waterborne mercury adds additional flavour but we won't talk about that.

Contrast that with Spag Bog in Phnom Penh that nearly killed me. Never again.

    Enjoy. G.

KG, that's for sure. The two servers in this shack were totally intrigued as to why a foreigner would eat their food in their dump. They assume all fat or skinny mongers just eat meat and chips and pay 700 pesos for the privilege. They were flirting all along and kept asking me all sorts of questions. How many times have you been to Angeles, do you have a filipina girlfriend, how long you stay etc. The usual questions to check if a man is free. The trouble with that stupid PL shit is that it forces you to stick to a schedule and any spontaneous action is ruled out.

Lots of great local eats everywhere, I am usually a big eater and seldom am not full for 200 p or less, including the SML to wash it down with. Never been sick from it in 2 years here and lots of years in other third world countries where I ate street foods. Just like at home you look for a local dinner with a full parking lot, look for a street vendor with people waiting to get served.

If you don't know what it is in the pots, just ask they are usually happy to tell you what it is, how it is made and why theirs is better than the same stuff across the street.
