I have taken sand to the beach couple of times just because my girlfriends at that time wanted to experience AC which they heard of. It turned out to be fun but not for more than 3 days. Smoking is allowed in most hotels. Royal Amsterdam, Pacific Breeze, and Fields (great 7 room) hotels are my favorites.
