OK! The fact that this is the second post in 5 years on Sucre might make you think Sucre is not a place for mongering. You're right.

I don't have much to add to the legendary J. Wadd's report. Just to clarify, the clubs are all close to each other, a little bit out of downtown: you take Av. Alberto Ostria Gutierrez out past the bus terminal, it turns into Av. Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz.

There are about a half dozen clubs on a two block stretch, Palmeiras, Sidarta, Buda, Americana are the names I jotted down. There are all dingy, shabby joints and after a couple of them I just gave up.

Double Dos and Corrales are still in existence. They are located on sides streets not far from the Santa Cruz strip. Double Dos was cold, dark, dingy, seedy, and the girls were decidedly unerotic. Well, they were dressed in jeans and sweaters! There were only about 6 of them.

Corrales was closed, whether permanently of just that night I don't know and I don't care.

I would have to agree that checking out the privados in town would be the way to go. There must be at least one high class place in Sucre, after all the Bolivian Supreme Court is located there.

That said, Sucre is a wonderful, picturesque, friendly, and cheap little city and I would highly recommend a stop there for a little R&R. It's high at 2,500 meters but nowhere as bad as LaPaz..

I bet I will prove you wrong tomorrow. I've already found a promising spa on Skokka.

Some suggestions:

Hotels: Hotel Kolping is amazing: new, well appointed, terrific views of the city both from your room or the restaurant, and only 30 or 40 US dollars for a room. It's a few blocks from the city center at Plaza Pedro de Anzares, near the Convent-Museum La Recoleta.

Villa Antigua is new, really posh, 56 US dollars for a single, two blocks from the central Plaza 25 de Mayo, the address is Calle Calvo 237. A little sterile for my tastes, but if you want luxury that's the place.

I stayed at Hostal de la Merced, Calle Azurduy 16. Mid-range, comfortable, 40 US.

Restaurants: El Huerto for lunch is absolutely great. You sit outside under umbrellas and shade trees, the menu is first rate, probably the most expensive place in Sucre but 200 Bolivianos for soup, delicious pejerrey stuffed with shrimp, a nice bottle of Bolivian wine, and coffee ain't that hard on the wallet. It's number 86 Cabrera, out past the Supreme Court building. To bad it's not a privado.

Drinks: Every tourist and ex-pat converges at Florin, Calle Bolivar 567. Run by a Dutch guy, it has good food and music. The other hangout is Joy Ride, Calle Ortiz 14. The two are close to each other and close to Plaza 25 de Mayo.

Aside from that, the mummies at the Museos Universitarios, Calle Bolivar 698 will either remove your appetite for lunch if you go in the morning, or make you throw up your lunch if you go in the afternoon. They do make an impression.

O.k. guys, got some good info here on Sucre.

I was here, unfortunately, on the Thurs. and Fri. of Easter week (which should be read as the "deader" and "deadest" days for sex outside of Christmas day). Anyway, I did my duty to the site and scrounged up some goods.

There're about 7 or so clubs around town. The best is apparently Double Dos, charging around 150-200B (set by the girl). It was closed when I was there, but it looked like a "compound-type" of bar/bordel with everything available on site. It's off the main road that leads out of town going up.

The rest of the clubs are along this same route. They are Escara Mucho, Corrales (I might have this club mixed up with Double Dos -- in other words Corrales might be the best club in town, set up like a compound, etc.; my notes are unclear and I can't remember), Tudi Pan, Night Club Budu, Mararu and Isla Noche. Most of these clubs are within a few blocks of each other.

All of these clubs are low end, primarily Bolivianos only. They're cheap and safe enough not to raise any red flags.

Sadly, there weren't any girls above a 5 in any of the clubs that were open. Perhaps it was due to Easter week. Dunno.

As an aside, Versus is probably the best disco in town for non-pro pick-up action.

If I were to go back (and this is what I recommend doing), check out Double Dos/Corrales and see if they're any good (and post it on the site!).

Next, I'd get a taxi driver I trust, and have him give me a tour of the private houses in town (casas privados). I'm sure these are probably better bets than many of these seedy clubs. I'd have done it, but they were all closed.

The local paper is always an awesome resource, but my Spanish is Tarzan, and it can be tough to negotiate on the phone for Tarzan sometimes. If nothing else, the paper will give addresses of houses/clubs.

This should be a good start. As always, trust in your local trustworthy cabbies. Don't be afraid to ask!
