Huh? Are you saying that being ABC and speaking good Mandarin is an invitation to criminals, or mongering in general. Actually, I have no idea what it is you are saying.

All Chinese want stability, and so the more stable you are in China the more freebies I believe will be offered to you. Living here is a big plus, instead of just coming over a few times a year on business. Speaking Mandarin is a huge plus, but isn't absolutely necessary. Of course many freebies turn out to be less than free after a very short time.

There was a good story in the SZ paper this week about a German businessman who was taken for almost $100, 000USD. He met the girl online, then he came to China and met her in person. After the third day they slept together and he was hooked. She got him to spend about $10, 000 in shopping, and then later on said that she couldn't marry him and go to the west unless she paid off her SZ apartment. He wired her the money, and guess what? She vanished. Can you believe that? Just disappeared. I don't know what is more pathetic. The Chinese girl for taking him for a ride or the German for being so stupid.

Remember. Mongering good. Freebies really good. Getting scammed out of large sums of cash; Really Bad!

7. speak fluent mandarin and be abc (american born chinese) or chinese-american (mixed blood). imho, being an abc or mixed blood chinese-american in mainland china is the equivalent of being british in america. the sexy accent and foreign intrigue will definately get the girls interest. to young chinese girls this type of man is both dashing and exotic, with the promise of money and travel (or at least some interesting conversation), while at the same time being both familiar and comfortable. most western laowai should not expect it to be quite as easy as tian ba shows us in picking up waitresses, although the better your mandarin gets the more the walls will come down. it’s a confusian society, and it helps to blend into it as much as possible, in attitude, dress and speech.
