    1ball,

I hope you're not suggesting an 11 hour barstool ride at the Beer Garden !

    Joe Zop,

Let me jump in also with a "welcome back".

It is a day time / early evening time place. There are a few diamonds in the rough there, you have to look and be patient. It is also a fun place to meet up with a bunch of guys, and shoot the shit.

At 10.00 PM, you will have the dregs. Drunk guys sitting at the bar, with their face in their beer, having their leg massaged by a TG, who is actually so desperate for some business that she is willing to go with this smelly drunk old fart. All the worthwhile TGs are long gone, having been chosen, or having moved on to CM2, or Angel's.

    King wins, Shina backs down...!

just to follow up on hm the king's address:

    >>>>>thai pm to drop media lawsuits

thai prime minister thaksin shinawatra is to withdraw lawsuits against a media mogul who has become one of his fiercest critics, his lawyers say.
the surprise move by mr thaksin follows a gentle public reprimand by the country's king during his birthday speech on sunday.

mr thaksin had filed six lawsuits against sondhi limthongkul, who has held weekly rallies denouncing him.

thailand's media has accused mr thaksin of trying to muzzle all criticism.

"the prime minister is forgiving everyone in order to create conciliation by withdrawing all the lawsuits against sondhi," thana benjathikul, chief of mr thaksin's legal team, told reporters on tuesday.

"i will go to court and withdraw the suits this afternoon," mr thana said.

thailand's king bhumibol adulyadej, who is widely revered in the country, appeared to press mr thaksin in his birthday speech to be less sensitive to criticism.

"the pm is not wrong. the pm can do anything. there is no need to go on air on the tv [to complain]... it has been 10 times going on air. so the people are getting fed up. they want to see soap dramas instead," he said.

government spokesman suraphong suebwonglee said mr thaksin respected the king's opinion.

"the government will fully listen to the king's advice, and from now on this government will accept both praise and criticism from the public and the opposition," he said.

mr sondhi's lawyer said his client was pleased with the outcome but would still go ahead with this week's rally on friday.<<<<

thanks to :d for this article!

    Thanks - no more please!

Hi 1ball plus all the PMers responding to my query - thanks for all the great info. No more tips needed thanks. I've lost hours of work time researching for such a short stay, and I'll be a happy wreck by the time I leave BKK.

    cheers

Piper, you are going to be landing in the middle of the "pink zone".Within spitting distance is Gulliver's on soi 5, a beer bar with pool tables. FLs are a bit more aloof than other places.
head toward Sukhumvit, you will see an alleyway on the left before you hit the main road. Hang a left, pop out on the next street, called soi 7, hang a left, and within 5 yards, is the famous beergarden, FLs start arriving at 11.00 AM or so. if you don't have what you want by 10.00 PM, it won't happen there.

Also 3 minutes from you is NEP, head down your soi toward Sukhumvit, make a right, cross the street at the light going left, and walk 50 metres. Lots of beer bars, and gogo bars. Some have good shows, some not. Watch out for the LB bars.

Accross the street, if you are stilll in search, or searching again , is the hotel Nana. inside there, is Angel's disco, plenty of choice there, and if you are still looking, walk outside of the hotel, and look in the parking lot.

Since you are arriving at 9.30 PM, i would head straight to NEP, and have a couple of cold ones there. From there i would head into Angels.

I would go to beergarden the next day for another "pre flight" pop.

if you want a thai traditional maasage, I can suggest a very good place on soi 8, which is directly accross the street from soi 5, where beergarden is located. it is on the right, 10 yards into the soi, and it also doubles as a travel agent. 2 hour massage is best, as they rush to do all of you in 1. No happy ending with traditional thai massage, but a buddy got an oil massage with a nice HJ afterwards They don't make much, so a tip is always nice.

Have fun, and let's see how you do.

JZ, we were all worried about you. I hope everything works out with your family. I understand the health problems thing. I've had to hang out in the hospital waiting for news more times than I would like to remember. Take care.

    First BKK visit

Hi Guys - I'll be staying in Fortuna Hotel on a one night, one day lay-over in a few weeks. It's my first visit to BKK, so any info re where to go and how to get around in such a limited time would be much appreciated - will arrive 9:30PM, leave next day 530PM - want to get at least two sessions in.

I like to take pics (and I don't mean of shrines), so clubs like Eden are out. I prefer freelancers or maybe take-out from a club (two at a time, LT for the first night, then a short-time next day around midday - such a tight schedule!).

I don't want to spend all my time in traffic, so places walking distance from Fortuna would be great.

Here's an extract from their website. (And how about their "Thai Traditional massage rooms"????)

    Cheers

    Piper
    _________

Fortuna Hotel 19 Soi 5, Sukhumvit Road, Klongtoey... in the center of Bangkok city; close to sky train station,... Thai traditional massage rooms.

Nearby Foodland supermarket, Nana night plaza,... Nana sky train station is 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The expressway entry-exist point is only 2 blocks away.

3 years? it was Samus, John Hart 69, a russian guy who disappeared shortly after that night...........

you have the same crappy sleeping habits I have......

  10. #913
Well, they're not resolved, but they're momentarily quiet.

Hard to believe it's now three years since we all went carousing!

  11. #912
JZ, welcome back to the fold, old buddy. I actually enquired about you a couple of months ago, as your silence at exactly 2,000 posts seemed very odd.
Hope you have been able to resolve your family issues, and we look forward to your wisdom.

  12. #911
Greetings to all in the Thai forums, and my apologies for being so long silent these last months -- family issues (which have involved and still involve lots of mostly pointless time hanging around hospitals) and absurd work pressures have unfortunately kept me from this forum and, worse, from LOS.

I wish to all of you the best the rest of the year can bring, and look forward to catching up here to lots of pertinent info in anticipation of my next as-yet-unscheduled trip!

(Oh, yes, and me disappearing once I got 2000 posts was truly entirely coincidence, since I've actually reached that number several times, each time having the number reduced as Jackson eliminated posts involved in flame wars or off-topic posts, despite the fact I generally try not to engage in such behaviors...)

  13. #910

Who needs BBC, CNN, Bangkok Post....

... when we can find all we need on Thailand's current affairs in the Thailand section of WSG. If Jackson is not careful media mogul Takshin will soon be eyeing a hostile take over of the Forum in an attempt to silence his most hostile critics.

Keep up the good work. Thailand's current affairs have never sounded so simple

the best thing was watching taksin's face as the king made each point.

if my thai was correct then the king also spoke a lot about how he himself should be more open to criticism and how the public shouldn't see criticising thai royalty as taboo.

lexus got some excellent free advertising at the end of the speech when the king drove off in one. their bangkok reps must've popped a few corks that night.

    Hail To The King

    happy kings birthday to all,

i hope sir pm thaksin busts a nut and stubs his left toe while climbing upon his bully pulpit (his one-way-communication device) to forbid his royal majesty the king from future public addresses that contain any critical and/or contradictory remarks toward sir thaksin: prime minister almighty.

a public demonstration is being planned for dec. 9th at lumpini park designed to air the issues and concerns held by the commonfolk of thailand regarding thaksin's policies and agenda.

maybe the almighty one will save thailand once again by recreating yet another victory over the war-on-drugs. on the day of the demonstration he will deliver a public address at 10am. during this meeting he will reveal certain top-secret documents condemning any and all anti-thaksin
demonstrators to be executed on sight. it will not be noticed until much later that the military arrived at lumpini park at 6am the same day, a full four hours before thaksin's speech.

this fact will be waved off after it has been noticed and brought forth by the feeble (nearly conquered) press. thaksin will declare that the military was informed before the press release due to national security and that the previously restricted documents had been withheld from public view for the same reason.

it will never be noticed that the once top-secret documents were never before revealed because they were forged and printed a mere two hours before thaksin's fatal address. thaksin will state that the condemned never had the (need) for a hearing because the evidence against them was (in his opinion) overwhelming and unquestionable.

a special edition of the bangkok post will be available at 4pm explaining why the "lumpini park massacre" was necessary and legitimate. please read the following excerpts.

"the conspirators were apprehended and executed by the military on december 9th, 2548 at lumpini park shortly after prime minister thaksin declared marshall law."

"the co-conspirators formed a terrorist organization known as mairakthai shortly after thaksin was elected for his second term. the organization was first identified by the thai secret police (tsp) in december of 2547. the tsp successfully infiltrated mairakthai with undercover operatives in february 2548. the information that led to the apprehension and execution of the war criminals was in no small part due to the heroic efforts of the tsp task force. the tsp commissioner commented shortly after the executions were concluded, "i can't have any pride for myself because i am nothing as one person, but i am proud of my team. they became a perfect example of our parties' motto, of the people for the people.""

colonel sayransunisit was overheard talking to two of his officers after the event, "they are better off dead and we have done well to have helped them because we have spared their present incarnation from additional wrongs against karma."

a young high school boy was heard talking to himself in thoughtful reflection while watching the military load dead bodies into a pickup, "mairakthai's crimes are nothing short of traitoress. i mean... they were selling yaba to fund terrorism in the south."
