I agree with you, Ctg is nothing special for mongering with pros (comparitivly speaking), compared with locations like Rio or Pattaya, never has been since I first started going there in 2000, the semi pros are the way to go there, presuming you like the local look, there are 10,000s of them to be had though.

Plus the other non female related reasons you and tomtom state.

TomTom. Well its good to hear that they caught the little cutthroat that shot the tourist. Considering the potental impact on the local tourist economy I am guessing the Colombian justice system will not be to merciful (rightfully so)

RE: the demise of Cartagena. Well I think it is part of human nature to pine nostaligic on how great things use to be. And Mule 69 you are correct in stating that there are far more Itallions than americansas tourists in CTG. But compared to say 1999-2001 there are FAR more americans now in Cartagena.

I use to go on a 2 week junket to CTG and never meet another american, now they are buying apartments and opnening business there. It seems that 1/4 of the guys in LDV are from the States as well. IMHO.

If you simply look at empiracle evidence I. E. (price of LDV chica TLN) as a barometer of the "state of the "scene" in CTG.

LDV in the old Building (in centro) chicas were asking 40, 000 TLN. But settling for 20, 000 to 30, 000. Now (to reiterate) they Often quote you and hourly rate of 250, 000 p! But will settle for less depending on several variables I. E. Your looks, and game, language skills etc etc.

Thats an increase of almost 1000% in almost 5-6 years! Thats FRICKIN ridiculous! . Considering the shallow pool of talent available, and mercinary nature of many of the woman!

Don't get me wrong I still love Cartagena. It just is a horrible place to monger (comparitivly speaking)

So essentially we are in agreement TOMTOM. CTG is a cool town for a lot of reasons. However as a good venue for chasing woman, it ranks VERY low on the overall list IMHO.

Great info as usual Tom33. This guy lives right in the heart of the tourist zone so he should know the deal. Laguito will have the brunt of most American tourist (ie: mongers) and it is a drop in the bucket compared to Colombian tourists on vacation. I saw more Italians there than gringos and hordes of Colombian families with kids at the beach. We are not alone in raising the p4p in Cartagena. Ctg is not cheap, check the rates at the Hilton and see all the colombians that are staying there, they got money!

Guys Cartagena is done, and has been for about 3 years. Why? You say?

Yes, there will still be reports on this "Board" and others touting how AWSOME Cartagena is. IMHO it is analagous to giving a starving man a Bigmac. He will tell you it was the best meal he has ever had. These reports IMHO are authored by people with little comparative experience.

IMHO, and having "Hobbied" in scores of countries, your money would be better spent in Angeles city (Philippines) or Thailand. BKK or Pattaya.

Why? . Its cheaper and safer and less mercinary in nature. Only drawback is the long flight from North America and Europe. This problem is easily solved by taking 1 Xanax.

If you must go to Colombia, save your money and go to Medellin or Armenia. Cuter girls, cheaper, GFE, but a bit dodgy.

Just my Opinion. From a rather large comparatve sampling. And a FORMER Cartagena Hobbiest.

There was one Italian tourist killed in a mugging attempt gone bad. Her husband may not live, but I had not heard that he passed. The 16-year-old kid who did this was arrested shortly after the crime.

The Frenchman was not a tourist, and he was hit - as in assassinated.

The tourist zone is very safe. But shit can still happen.

CTG is the most expensive city in Colombia. It has been that way the entire 4 years I have lived here.

As far as sex tourism, Colombia doesn't even rank with SEA or Brazil. CTG markets primarily to Colombian families.

The loud North Americans don't compare to the much louder Colombians. All the Land Rovers here do not belong to North American tourists.

CTG is awesome, but it's not a great sex destination. It never was.

Two things though. First, fillipo does get a fee for hooking you up with the girls, just like tony and all the other guys on the beach. The girl you hook up with will pay him out of the money you give her. If they don't, they don't get called again when rich gringos are on the beach, so they pay. It's like 10,000 pesos on a 60,000 peso trick mas o menos. If you pay tony or fillipo a fee for getting the girl they will be getting paid twice. Nice work if you can get it.

Second, tony actually can be a good resource on the beach. All you have to do is use the same negotiating skills you describe with the chicas. I chuckle at how many people claim he rips them off. Just tell him (don't ask) how much you pay per beer, per chair, for the cabana. Then keep track. That simple. I don't utilize him for chicas anymore, but I have seen him get some of the hottest pieces of ass in cartagena for 60,000 pesos. Same method, tell him what you want, if an ugly girl shows up, no gracias, send her away.

In fact if I'm not mistaken, the girl in surfers post below is a beach chica tony can arrange for you, goes by the name of alejandra, might be more than 60,000 now though.

I'd still recommend using her as an A-1 resource for apartment rentals. My two main recommendations, based on 100% past positive experiences, are Juan Ventura and Mery Salence. I would always start with those two agents then work down from there.

I e-mailed Juan V. a week before my trip (yeah, I procrastinated), but he was unable to fill my rental request. He did, as always, promptly respond and offer to keep looking, even though he is currently in Spain. I declined the attempt, but thanked him for the offer.

I e-mailed Mery Salence right after this. Within a few hours, she had an apartment for me. Not just any apartment, but a brand new apartment (less than 3 months) in the newest building in Laguito, Mirador del Laguito. It was a one bedroom studio, well-furnished, hot water, a/c, prepaid wireless access, large bed, spacious enough bathroom with shower space for 2-3 people. The owner even provided a 1 page info sheet to get people acclimated. The building has a nice pool area and small gym on the 3rd floor, as well as washers and dryers on the 2nd floor, and plenty of parking. Plenty of families appear to live there.

Building security was conservative, but tolerant with chicas. One chica that I got off the beach had to put a real shirt on, instead of her bikini top prior to entering past security. Also, each chica had to make a copy of her cedula and leave the copy at the desk prior to entering. Real novias weren't put through this, and treated with discretion and respect.

Cost me $60/nite plus $6/day for complete maid service incl. your personal laundry. I also met the owner of this apartment, and he was a very cool guy, very helpful, and insistently interested in improving whatever needed to be improved. I couldn't come up with anything.

To those who were put off of Mery by recent actions on this board, Mery is back in business, and appears better than before. She has several apartments in this new building, plus a few in the new complex ("Torres del Laguito" maybe, I forget exactly) currently being developed directly in front of Riquisimos.

She told me her version of things (which of course differed from what was previously stated), offered to provide confirmation through various people mentioned, none of which I would take her up on.

With my experience renting from her in the past, to this recent experience, as well as that of everyone that I've ever recommended her way, I continue to trust her 100% with renting an apartment. It's fucked-up that I have to stump for someone on this board, but I feel like she got a raw deal.

She started at 200K and settled for 75K so she saw some repeat business for TLN. I talked to another LDV girl on another night and she would not budge off $100.00 USD. I must appologize and clarify. Last year my month here brought me 60k girls all but once from the ldv. But as time goes on, so does the amount of crazy guys here paying up to 200, 000 pesos. One girl that is a regular, not for me cause she is 34 and a bit too much fat. Always went for 40, 000 pesos. Truth. But a few days ago she showed me a $100. 00 usa bill from an old canadian. Now she is ruined. But I am now at 80, 000 without too much of a struggle. This week aton of people went back to italy and the price will once again settle down. In order to get cheap. You must be cheap. If you hold out. They will crumble. Simple as that. Now obviously not the hottest of the hots. Cause they score regardless. But a little lesser. You can bargain. I had a very hottie the other day. She met me at the beach and hung from noon till 7pm. She got 100, 000 from me cause I was feeling generious for the amount of time she spent. And I didn't even ask how much I owed untill it was over. Why. Cause even if she said some ridiculous number like 200, 000 I would have laughed at her and told her to take what I am giving her and be happy. You must not be intimadated by them. If you are. Then pay.

Next. Beach-girls info if anyone wants to know. Playa hollywood, which is the lagito main beach area, infront of the hotel dan, is a busy spot and I will give out a great contact. I reccomend walking there even if you are in bocagrande cause its all close. For those who don't know. There are a million beach hustlers trying to get you to sit at their cabanas, chairs etc. I have been here 4 years and always trust fillippo. He can hook you up with everything. And he is very fair. He will set you up. With no fee. Nothing. And then you are on your own. The quality is great. To find him just ask they guys on the beach infront of hotel dan. He runs a big spot there. And he can connect you with any little thing required. I know the other guys. And next to him is a full thief named tony juan. He will rip you a new a-hole and girls are brutelly ugly. Stay away from this creep. So good luck. Don't be shy. Be tough and keep the cost of the oldest proffession down where it belongs.

Call me paranoid, but I'd rather stay somewhere else. I've walked through that area during daytime and felt safe, but suspect from some of the characters hanging around that the neighborhood might be a little dangerous at night.
