No need to buy a phone, unless you are totally paranoid about losing yours when on holiday. But if you decide to carry a burner phone in lieu of your regular phone, surf over to the Bay of E and search for "unlocked GSM cell phone. " You'll find hundreds for sale in all price ranges. Then install a Thai SIM card when you arrive.

No need to use the phone service from your home country either. The roaming fees will be outrageous.

Most guys install a Thai SIM card in their regular phones for the duration of their holiday. Once you clear customs at the airport a few steps away you'll see counters for all the cell phone carriers. Read the signs and pick a plan that works best for you. They staff will swap out our regular SIM card for a Thai SIM card and configure the help menus to English. Take care not to lose your original SIM card. On your way home, re-install it into your phone.

Callers to your regular cell phone number will roll over to voice mail. If you need to pick up those messages while on holiday, figure out how to do that remotely. Usually that requires calling yourself and entering a PIN to get into the voice mail menu.

Wi-Fi is everywhere in Thailand and usually free. So any VOIP app will work. I have the Skype app on my cell phone, and on my lap top. The LINE messaging app is also popular in Thailand.

This is a very anti social forum for meeting fellow members. There are better forums for information sharing and actually meeting fellow mongers. I have only met one guy from here for a drink. I will usually get a local SIM.

I'm looking for a like-minded wing man to plan a trip sometime maybe around January or February for two weeks in Bangkok and pataya. We don't have to travel together, and we definitely could have her own space but it would be nice to have someone there in case some kind of shit went down or you needed someone for emergency. Also to have drinks and share some war stories with. Maybe setup some double date swapping etc.

Flexible on dates, I reside US east coast, perhaps we could meet up and iron out a solid plan.
