imo Thailand is doing the responsible thing. They want to know where to find you for the 14 day period after your arrival so they can contact you in case there may have been a chance you were infected like on your plane or an outbreak that happened at a connecting airport.
This is from the BKK Post March 5:

"Six places defined as dangerous zones".

"The government has defined four countries and two territories as dangerous zones and restrictions may follow to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus.

The announcement, dated Monday and published in the Royal Gazette on Thursday, classified South Korea, China, Macao, Hong Kong, Italy and Iran as "dangerous communicable disease areas".

No quarantine measure has been officially announced, but Public Health Ministry spokesman Rungrueng Kitphati told Reuters on Thursday it would come into effect on Friday.

"Thais and foreigners who came from these places would have to go through self-quarantine for 14 days at home or in a hotel room, where they have to report themselves to the authorities every day or officials will come to check on them," Dr Rungrueng said.

The message here is ominous. No one is going to visit Thailand if a self quarantine is put into effect that means you can't leave your hotel or move around freely and the Thai Government knows this. Fortunately, my flight is through Narita, but this announcement makes me nervous, not the friggin' virus, which is just a bat flu. The odds of my visiting LOS this April just went down a tad, just like the stock market. 555. The odds of my visiting Sao Paulo just went up a tad.

Interestingly, I had dinner tonight with a couple friends at a favorite Italian restaurant in south Florida, USA. There must have been 100 customers in the restaurant drinking, dining, and having a nice night. No panic here. The weather was balmy.

    Virus thread?

Is it time for a separate thread concerning the newest and subsequent viruses?

A few Asian countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Philippines are doing a "poor job" at reporting the virus but I don't think Thailand is one of them. Thai all wear their masks if they can get their hands on one so not to spread the virus but how many Europeans or Americans walk around everywhere with a mask on? I was in Chicago last week and not a single non-Asian was wearing a mask. Germany's active cases doubled overnight to 545.

Pretty important post if you are from one of the following countries

List of countries and territories at high risk of the Covid-19 infection: Japan, Germany, South Korea, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Taiwan, France, Singapore, Italy, and Iran.

All returnees from these nations and territories must self-quarantine for 14 days, he said.

Ministerial announcements specify the following four measures for enforcement:

Visitors and Thai citizens returning from the high risk areas will be subject to 14-days home quarantine, even if they are cleared of the disease, unless they have permission from health officials.

Those who do not have a permanent residence or lodging in Thailand are required to show officials, upon arrival, evidence of where officials can locate them during the 14-day period.
The final sentence is the big one for tourists. Read the link posted below if you are from one of the listed countries. Would suck to fly to Thailand only to be turned away to fly all the way back home.

Tourists will be required to show where they will be staying for 14 days after arrival. That would mean you will need to book your hotel for 14 days and not book an AirBNB since AirBNB is illegal in Thailand. If you really must use AirBNB in Thailand which I don't, you can book a hotel which has free cancellation, show Thai Immigration you are staying there, and then cancel your hotel. You do take the chance that somehow Thai immigration finds out you are not staying where you said you were and deports you with no return for 5 years on your record. Remember hotels are required to tell Thai Immigration when you check in and check out of their hotel. Imo best to be safe and stay in a hotel your next visit.

These new rules will affect myself since I was planning to do a FKK tour in Germany on my way to Bangkok. Now to get to Bangkok I will have to fly Germany to Jakarta, hobby in Jakarta for a week, then to Bangkok. Since Indonesia does not record the number of coronavirus cases it is a safe destination that will not be subject to the newly imposed Thailand quarantine. Vietnam, Philippines, and Cambodia appear to not report all their cases as well so those would be other options to fly in from. I'll predict that the USA will eventually make it on a Thailand quarantine list with their recent outbreak.

Damn virus is still at large, and I guess I will again be rescheduling my trip to April first week.

However, I'm still not sure whether by Apr timeline the virus would be contained.

I believe more in mathematical models of cornovirus than Thai government words and it says the number of infected people to be much higher than the reported 33 people.

In Thailand is the second most vulnerable country next to China with regards to coronavirus infections.

Maybe I should just postpone the Thai trip indefinitely and head over PP / Jarkarta.
I had booked my trip on Feb 20. After watching a lot of youtube videos of the scenario in Thailand o decided to postpone it. I am planning a trip in April. Hopefully due to the climate by then things should be back to normal. I just can't understand when the whole world is concerned about the virus how come tourists I Thailand are still enjoying freely in pubs and bars and discotheques. Also what scared me was what would happen if I get a freelancer to my room unknowing that she was infected. I'm damn sure the virus would spread thru contact.

I too am hoping for the best till April. Till then I am keeping a close watch of the situation thru posts and YouTube videos.

I guess we are on the same boat. If you would like to chat we me add me on wazzap.

Anyone disagreeing works for Xi or is psychotic apparently. People should do their own research from legitimate sources and make their own minds up as to the risk. I was in Bangkok mid January and am back again for a week now. Far less face masks than I expected (except at the airport). I'm due to be in KL mid March if work allows me to fly as they are excessively HSE conscious due to the nature of the industry but only China is a definite no travel with no exception zone.

    Smooci Payment

    Hey lads,

Do you know if it is possible to get a prepaid debit or similar in Thailand to spring for a Smooci Premium membership? I'm heading to Thailand in a couple days and want to get a membership (can't actually sign up for premium until I have a phone over there), but I don't want to pay with my regular debit or credit cards.

If anyone can offer me advice on how to sign up without using my real cards, I'd appreciate it.

There is even someone from the NASA explaining how the forecasting model works and how its not based on live data.

Stop taking us for idiots by spamming false news here. Not even sure how its related to Bangkok General reports to start with.

The CNBC story is substantive and the question raised at the CDC press conference is on the record by a valid news organization granted press credentials by the CDC, so I don't think any of the statements made were false or lies as you chose to accuse me of.

A simple search reveals Euronews to be a legitimate organisation with NBC and European public broadcasters amongst the shareholders. You also used a daily express article as part of your claims. A news organisation about as reliable as the daily mail and if you read the express article it doesn't really say anything but rather poses bullshit questions which is par for the course for that rag of a publication.
