About two or three years ago, you could buy a brand new tuk-tuk or more exactly a "samlor kruang" (สามล้อเครื่อง) in Udon Thani (Northeastern Thailand) for a little bit more than 50 thousand baht (entry price for the least powerful and least sophisticated models). Most models being for sale in this local shop were in the 53-125K baht price range then.

That explains your eloquent ramblings in "paasa Thai!"

Hope someone comes up with an app for "paasa Isaan," and it's many local dialects!

    Iphone Thai. English Dictionary?

If you are learning Thai and want a superb talking dictionary on your iphone, I recommend (and have no affiliation with authors whatsoever) :

Dictionary is also available for windows! It isn't so cheap $29, but well worth the cost.

I have looked at various other iphone Thai Dictionaries, so believe me, this new arrival is the one, if you are Farang wanting to learn more Thai. You can listen to how the words are pronounced too!

Although I speak Thai, I still have many new words to learn all the time.
Flashcards Deluxe is another good iphone App for learning vocab.

At the moment, you get approximately 30 baht for one US dollar at Thai banks.

Yes, a little bit more: one Canadian dollar is worth US$ 1.01226, according to Oanda.

Must have used a rigged meter for sure. Anyways, was very tired and didn't want to argue over a few bucks. Yesterday, on my 2nd visit to BKK after returning from the Phils to do my 1st visa run, upon arriving in BKK, went to the 4th floor in the departure area and took a cab from there to Soi 3 for 250 (including tip). So keep that in mind guys, when you arrive at the international airport in BKK, after clearing immigration and getting your luggage, go straight to the departure area (4th floor) , ignore all the touts offering taxis and wave one that is dropping people at the airport. You shouldn't pay more than 300 if you're going to sukhumvit.

Wish I had that info when I first came to BKK.
Nice of you to share this but the newsflash about going up to the departure level to get a cab dropping off customers has been share here countless times before and after October.

Usually I get the best rates through.

    www.zuji.com

If you check "flight saver date search" the rates will show up including taxes.

I'd rather spend a few bucks more and take Cathay over China Airlines.

I've often thought the same thing. But never quite found the right words to express it. Eloquent and articulate.

I was just playing around the other day with a friend and we were checking airfares on Eva, maybe it's old age but I have been telling friends for years since I work for a carrier prior to retiring that disregard some of the general belief like weekends and spend some time playing around with dates when searching for airfares. The end result you need to be flexiable like I told him and if you are retired and you can't then you got a hair up your ass and if that is the case " don't waste my time ".

I put in a date for him for example: April 15th, departure SFO / BKK returing date June 5th? Price was $1207 before taxes etc. Then we work backwards some April 6th. May 30th, and the price dropped to $1037. 00 before taxes etc, then again we tried April 4th and the price dropped to $937. 00 before taxes. You got to be reflexiable to save. If not then you're stucked?
