Not only that, she is showing up the weak ass piss ant middle aged male politicians we are burdened with in Australia in how to deal with this bloody virus. Japan is taking a totally different approach. They will be announcing a program where they pay tourists to visit Japan by subsidizing part of the trip. .

At first I thought that only Japanese people could have such an idea.

But I just learned that certain regions in France offer money too to tourists on 3 conditions:

1 - you must take a room at the hotel.
2 - You have to go to a restaurant.
3 - You have to go to a museum in the region.

Banana Boi it's an opportunity for you to visit France ! I'll take you to visit Le Louvre ! (and Eiffel Tower).

You can come with your Thai, Japanese and Korean girlfriends if you lend me one or 2 (thanks in advance).

And you can invite me to the restaurant

My feeling is all countries line up on each other.

That was my point.

Not sure exactly who Thailand's major competitors are in the tourism sector but probably Vietnam Cambodia Malaysia Laos Indonesia maybe Myanmar down the line but when these countries welcome visitors without putting them through the nonsense rigmarole here they either wise up or forfeit 10 to 20 % of the economy.

Thailand has tremendous brand appeal but tourists have to feel welcome and taken care of. After the chaos of being fined for overstaying and having to queue for hours to get extensions through no fault of their own because there were no flights out of the country is not the way to make that happen. They eventually realized the extra baht they were getting in fines wasn't worth the goodwill they were losing and extended all visa's to the end of July.

We can only hope future policy on expats retirees and tourist is more enlightened than heretofore.

Second, except for the politics of France, I NEVER speak about the internal politics of the countries, even in private. I have friends all over the world, in China, in Cuba, in Africa, in some Arab countries and other countries and I don't want them to be in trouble for having raised a political opinion.

Then I respect all the political forms of all the countries even when they seem strange to me like having a king in Great Britain (noooooo I am joking, it's a wink for my British friends that only they will understand. I love Great Britain

This is what I thought at the beginning but there is so much contradictory informations that I no longer understand anything about their intentions and the dates of opening of their borders to tourists.

My feeling is all countries line up on each other. Thailand will not free its borders on its own while the other countries are in quarantine. And they want to obtain a "certificate" of good behavior and safety in front of covid-19 to reassure tourists and people.
