I've been meaning to ask this. I know prostitution is tolerated in many countries but which SEA countries is prostitution actually legal?

On a related note, anyone know if a web cam girl can legally cam from any SE Asian country?

It is legal in Thailand and in Singapore.

As far as I know it is illegal in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia and I guess it is also illegal in Myanmar.

Of course, that doesn't mean it is not available in those countries.

In Laos, it is even illegal for not married people (one of which is Laotian) to stay together in the same hotel room.

All these girls come from the streets and bars and absolutely none of them are professionals. In fact, you can see a 10+ year veteran street girl that made it into an Asian Street Meat video still working in front of Robinson's McDo at Soi 19.

In the past getting pics and video was no problem whatsoever and I have a real collection of homemade porn amassed. Now with social media, girls are much more wary about even having their pic taken, much less of having pornographic video shot. In my days of shooting pics and vids, I never once offered to pay anything extra nor did I negotiate anything up front. It was all spur of the moment and nothing hidden. For a start there are no "porn actresses" in Thailand, at least not officially since porn is actually banned in the Kingdom. Yes, that's strange: prostitution is legal but showing your naked butt in a movie can land you in jail.

So I'm not too certain that these "Thai" videos are indeed Thai, either filmed in Thailand or employing Thai actresses. And finally, from the few videos I watched in the Creampie Asian or Asia Street Meat series, I found the actresses not looking very happy, almost coerced or doing these things against their will. Some even had this weird look, as if drugged or otherwise incapacitated. These movies all had a sense of despair. LIke "unless I do this, I'll be dead of hunger tomorrow, if not earlier". Nothing that compares with the P4 P scene I experienced in Thailand, where even my worst encounters where still at least of the "I may not enjoy this overmuch, but its an honest job and the money is better than working in a factory" type.

I can't say I found these movies exciting, quite the contrary.

You offer them the right amount of money. You obviously weren't offering them enough. I don't think anyone who does commercial porn does so for pocket change, anywhere in the world. They will want their cut up front. Trying to tell them it is for personal usage only is not going to be too convincing.

Several years ago, taking photos or short video clips was not much of an issue. Almost all girls were be OK with a number of normal photos, often semi-naked (with a towel or bra / panties). A sizeable number, perhaps 30% were OK even with the harder stuff. As an amateur photographer (never was into video) I never had to pay extra for it, though I would tip if they were more patient than usual. It was more of an issue of annoyance / going with the flow, with no vehement fear of being photographed or filmed. Sure, some girls were aware punters might share pics on the internet, but it was rarely on top of their mind. No trying to hide faces, no worrying at all, taking pics was just another mild fetish a punter had.

Smartphones and Facebook have change this dramatically. Now all the girls know you can send a picture to anyone instantly, and are concerned about privacy. Often, they wouldn't even be comfortable even with fully clothed pic. Moreover, Thai working girls are far less patient these days, so even if you manage 5-10 photos, they'll start giving you the annoyed vibe and ask to move on. It's definitely much harder. Outright asking "can I take photos" will arise suspicions and discomfort (it wasn't the best approach before, but now it's especially bad). What I generally do these days is take a few casual snaps (fully clothed). And usually that's where it ends. 5-10 years ago it was easy to start this way, then take more pics and transition into more revealing stuff. But it just doesn't happen often anymore.

Sorry if this is a disappointing answer. Many of the websites you mentioned are 10+ years old.

Perhaps explicitly stating what you want upfront might be the best way. But be prepared for a lot of rejections. In addition, know that filming any sort of porn in Thailand is illegal, so make sure to protect yourself (i.e. don't leave those files out in the open, encrypt your data etc).

2 nded, I love my schwab account. I also have a state farm bank account as well as they refund fees as long as you use direct deposit. I only put like $100 a month in that way which is enough and they refund fees.

This is an easy one. Get a Charles Schwab bank account. There is no ATM fees ever!

Try the "Asia Books" chain. There are a few on Sukhumvit (even side) between Nana and Asoke and in Terminal 21. There is a very big bookstore (with a Japanese sounding name) in Emquartier mall and Siam Paragon. They have a huge selection of English language books and if my memory serves me right there were some of the books you're looking for ("No money, no honey" and "Private Dancer").

There seems to be some confusion among some board members on the exchange rates. The following applies to the US dollar and US banks.

If you subtract the Foreign ATM transaction fees of 200 Baht and do not have any other fees from your bank, you will not beat the exchange rate you get from your ATM debit card. Same thing applies to Visa and Mastercard.

At the currency exchange shops, there is a buy and sell rate. Better shops will have smaller spreads. The ATM debit card will give you the best possible buy rate. Last week, this exchange rate was the same as the TT currency exchange shop rate in Pattaya. The exchange shops need to make money; there should not be a place with a better rate.

When you arrive at BKK airport, there is collusion with all the currency exchange shops. They all have the same bad rates. For example, last week, the buy/sell cash rates at the airport were 32.XX/35.XX when it was 34.XX/35.XX outside the airport..

The currency exchange shops cannot affect the exchange rates on the ATM which is on that international banking system. The ATM exchange rate at the airport was the same as the TT currency exchange shop in Pattaya. That chain seems to have the best rates in Pattaya.

Some people reported bad rates using the ATM. Those people probably are accounting for the foreign ATM transaction fee of 200 Baht, possible foreign transaction fees, and possible junk fees from their own banks. As reported many times, if you get the best ATM cards, these fees are avoided.

Here is the equation you need to use to get the exchange rate (assuming you are refunded the 200 baht fee and assuming you have no other fees from your bank):

(Baht amount you take out + 200 baht fee) divided by (amount you are charged from your bank).

The above also applies to the Angeles ATMs.
