Any suggestions as to which banks are favorable for farangs. I plan on relocating to Tland early next year. Advise from the seniors will be appreciated.

Most Banks are currently not allowing you to open an account unless you have a work permit or other business credentials. So the short answer is you might have to take any bank that is willing. Many years ago it was easier. I opened several accounts back then. A few years ago Kasigorn was a possible but rules changed again with latest military government.

You may find that with some banks, there is a special branch where they will take you but most branches will say no. If you have the work permit, is much easier then. It is not easy to find out what is going on sometimes. Hear conflicting stories. I don't know for certain.

I currently only have a Bangkok Bank account. That may be the easiest bank to deal with in a large branch.

Are you coming in on a Tourist Visa? If so, the banks are a pain. Generally you need a lease and if you have one, you can get a Foreigner account at Krungsri, or one at Bangkok Bank if you have the embassy verify your passport.

If you have a long term visa, Bangkok Bank is probably the best for foreigners, however, you get Union Pay Debit instead of Visa. Thats why I use Krungsri.

You managed to mash up of making a quote of what I wrote too, to make my English look even worse. There is no need to announce which country someone comes from on the forum, especially for minority groups. Farang is good enough. It can give any female readers extra clues. You can't hear my accent. LOL I could well be a kiwi.

Which accent sounds funniest when speaking Thai language? I think American drawl wins there. LOL Other Asians like Japanese can sound the best sometimes. Yesterday was trying to speak with house room maid about cleaning the room, and noticed her Thai was strange and hard to follow. Turns out staff are Cambodian. Hired extra cheap perhaps.

The forum auto corrector mashes English more than anything else by making unnecessary and wrong changes. Respells words to make completely wrong words.

I guess I ate food that was not fresh enough from the Shawerma (Kebab) stand. So the guts had a bad reaction, like due to bad bacteria, the next morning.

Normally eat street food no problem but this was not quite the case in a shop at entrance to Soi 5.

"Thong sia" is the typical Thai phrase (heard a lot), and even Thais seem to get this problem a lot, by eating something no good.

"Thong" is ambiguous as can mean either stomach or abdominal, and "sia" means "fucked up" basically.

So get the "runs" so to speak. The body knows it has to flush all the bad stuff out of the intestine. Not only that we may feel a bit of a slight fever, and have no desire to eat. I was off most food for 2 days. This is body's way to avoid feeding the bad bacteria during the flushing process. Seemed to work very well. On 3rd day all seems to be back to normal. So not the very worse case of Gastro. Did not need any "Imodium" today.

Pharmacy gave me a broad spectrum anti-biotic to take too, but I resisted taking it, waiting to see if would fix itself. The reason is the anti-biotic would kill off good bacteria in the gut as well. This normally leads to rapid weight gain as upsets the metabolism, and I know this from past experience. Instead I lost 2 kilos from low food for 2 days and probable reduced total hydration level. I prefer to keep this weight off if possible.

Now eating is back to normal today although not exceptionally hungry, I am guessing sexual function should be back to normal as well.

Interestingly not many Thais understood "Indigestion" many years ago (maybe not even today) so I had a lot of trouble asking for medicine to fix that, when my Thai was a bit too basic. These days we can find a bottle of the flavored Calcium Hydroxide chalky liquid in a 7 store (Maloxolon or something like that name) or maybe quickeze, but in old days they did not have it.

Thai phrases: "Khleun sai" means nausea (literally an intestinal wave) , and "Grot laai yorn" means acid reflux or "heartburn". I did not learn this last phrase till maybe 2 years ago. So before that had little clue what to say. Maybe Thais just don't say it much. Could be useful to someone who speaks a bit of Thai, since these phrases are not heard much. Looking up Indigestion in a dictionary just yields a sentence saying "food can't be digested". LOL Can get Omeprazole in pharmacy, for those needing regular medication, or Ranitidine for occasional use. Latest advances may not be cheap yet. Staying away from junky food and over eating is a big help, and make sure you don't suffer from Helicobacter Pylori since easily treated and causes bad breath.

"thong ruang" - loose bowels (or leaky LOL).

Finally "thong" is long and high tone. Perhaps "thaung" would be a better spelling with au like in the word taught or thawng with aw as in raw.

Having this isn't funny especially if you aren't in a free area to move around. Today I keep all the medication when I travel just in case.

Like you I eat a lot of street food get my stuff at the local market rarely a problem. Last year I took a trip back home use Evaair regularly a stopover in Taipei, I was hungry so made a stop at a noodle shop located in the waiting terminal see, done this a number of times everything after was going fine. A few hours later on the flight after takeoff I notice my stomach was starting to hurt a feeling one needed to go to the bathroom I was praying it would go away but it didn't I got up went to the back for the restroom lucky no one waiting and hoping no one was going to be lining up. The pain was increasing and I didn't want to say anything to the F / A didn't want the plan to turn back or make an emergency landing but finally, I had to say something. The F / A was understanding and told me to go back in and she would put the bathroom out of order. When I went back to my seat I slept in pain, fever, cold put on my jacket and two blankets mentally long long long flight when I got home next day missed family reunion dinner I was out two days and drained.

Omitting words in a sentence is dangerous with Thais. They might assume the missing words are something quite different from what we are thinking is obvious. I got misunderstood, and its always my fault. Fortunately sometimes they will say they don't understand.

I was really "crook" yesterday. Not sure if that word is used in your country, so I wrote "poorly" (perhaps English slang). Actually that was pretty much normal for my "near" English. I show laziness to leave out words like "a" and "the" and hence make abbreviated sentences. Thai can be a bad influence, where understood words are omitted.

Thai: "pai nai" literally means "go where?" where in English we would write "Where are you going?

Hence I wrote "Today bad belly", where yes I should write proper English "Today I have a bad belly". The missing words are pretty obvious though, I would have thought, but I realise that it could irritate some readers.
