I fly EVA once never again bad service it is one of the cheapest from the US, most Taiwanese that fly this airline are low class people I only fly Cathay pacific or Singapore now from SFO stop in HKG there are more connection to Bangkok or Manila it is more expensive but not by much.

Funny, I have been using Eva for over ten years out of SFO, guess I'm low class? As a standby and paying passenger, consider them to be one of the best airline in the world and they were voted 5 class airline just this last year. Never had a bad experience going standby as a airline staff. Although you feel the passengers are low class I've never seen a flight attendant upset or a unusual dirty airplane after 12 plus hours. Their aircraft are top notch and the connection and staff in Taipei is also top notch.

I've also used Cathay a number of times throughout the years and I know it is consider one of the best. But everyone has their opinion as we know but I try to stay away from Cathay, for several reasons. One the connection I used BKK / HK / SFO, not bashing just generalizing like you is full of Indians, talking about low class.

A number of years ago, I got on a flight from BKK, connecting out of HK to SFO, the flight was late from a City in India, when I boarded to the back it was already packed with Indians, pretty much the one's that you see on Walking Street that walk around in packs and aren't allow in clubs (again generalizing) I was unable to find a spot for my small check-in lucky was able to put it under the seat in front after locating the owner a few rolls back who happen to use the spot. After seated, sat for a long period which worry me due to my connection. Everyone was still roaming around standing so I got up went to the back to talk to the flight attendant. I saw everyone standing around drinking beer, when I walk by the bathroom I saw [CodeWord109] all over the floor with guys standing inside and outside bare feet.

I ask the F / A when we were leaving? Told her about the connection, they all seem disinterested and beaten down and indicated basically to me don't worry. Never seen this in a Asian owned airline although CP is owned by the Hong Kong government. I go back to my seat and after a while the plane was on the runaway taking off but the passenger were still standing around especially in the back drinking. Being in the airline industry for over 25 plus years and years of flying back and forth Asia have never seen this ever happen. That was one of the toughest 11 hours flight thereafter I avoid CP for years. Last year, due to a emergency I had to used CP, as a non-revenue passenger and treated like shit. I decided to return out of SFO, using Eva.

Shit happens on any airline but you might have gotten Eva mix up with China Airline now that is a bad one.

Total newbie, and actually my first post. After years of wanting to visit Thailand I finally am able to make it happen. I did a great deal of research here as well and thought I had all my bases covered. And then I find out that it just so happens that my trip is scheduled during the Songkran. I did not even know this existed and had apparently not seen anything of it in my research.

I can deal with the getting wet part, but I am concerned that some of the bars may be closed or very short staffed. Is this something I should be concerned with? Or is this a blessing and something that may be fun and end up being a positive?

My days are April 9 to 13 in Phuket and April 13 to 17 in Bangkok.

I could also flex my days if it is better to avoid one place vs the other.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the advice. Google translate seems to be working for me so long as I keep things very simple. Not so much to chat, but just basic communication outside of the general scene questions (where from, how long stay, how old, etc.).

In Bangkok I had no problem communicating with girls in English, in Pattaya it can be a different story. Maybe not necessarily just due to age as I have met girls (21) with decent English, but some have almost none outside of the standard questions I mention above.

This may not be worth the bother for many, but I find that even a little back and forth can lead to a more fun session with the girl. Certainly not a guarantee of great service, but at least something to do while we are finishing drinks.

It takes some time, but learning basic Thai is quite helpful. Reading is, of course, another story entirely. But at least it is better than the pictograph based languages (like Chinese or Japanese).

Yes. Good "Asian" airline, which means you won't have surly linebacker-type stewardesses or haughty sensitive stewards like the US carriers. Have flown long haul in economy class. Service is good. In-flight entertainment is good. I prefer ANA for the ORD flights, but it generally costs more. Enjoy, AsianRain.

One reason EVA costs less is that for the bargain basement fares, THEY DON'T GIVE MILES.

None of those points come into play with what I mean by "sexual liberation. " I can illustrate this best with a personal example. Was taking a gal from G-Spot on a very frequent basis years ago. There are hundreds of fetishes such as those related to clothing & perhaps nowhere else on earth are there more sex workers dressed in uniforms, such as school girl outfits, than Thailand.

I'd suggest that by the example of being "sexually liberated" you described in paragraph one, a girl not being into "fetish play, nasty talk, and women being aggressive in bed", every country in the world is generally full of women who are not "sexually liberated". The vast majority of women worldwide are conservative when it comes to sex.

My sexual experiences are with sex workers, not non working women. Having been with dozens of ladies of the street in each of Thailand, Canada and Singapore, I didn't see much difference between the first two countries re things you mentioned. Neither nationality were aggressive or took the initiative in sex. Although in Singapore quite a few of the dozens of Vietnamese gals showed more acting or enthusiasm in the sack. They were also as a group whiter & to my taste more stunning than those who entertained me in Bangkok. BTW word has it that Indonesian females are great in the sack, but I have only been with one of them. They also, along with many PRC, can be found on the streets of SG.

Perhaps the fact she of G-Spot, a long term sex provider to Westerners I guess, wasn't into such things as you mention, speaks more to the type of customers she had, or your lack of willingness to press the issue. If anything Buddhists are less hung up about sex. Perhaps communists & atheists like in Vietnam are more free from the shackles of religion in regards to sexual attitudes.

Is there any doubt that Thai men are more sexually liberated than Western men in some significant ways? Young men in LOS often experience their first sex with a prostitute & this is considered perfectly normal. Married Thai men are more free than Westerners to have a mistress or visit a brothel.

Regarding Thai people's dress code, how is it any different from elsewhere in the world? In Canada business men don't dress in shorts and tank tops, even when it hits 30 degrees. If I dressed like that in LOS I'd freeze to death from the universal air conditioning.

If Thais are dressing more conservatively now, my guess is it has nothing to do with sex & everything to do with the King dying a few months ago. Or with the ever changing styles of fashion which have historically occurred all over the world. It makes more money for businesses to push regular style changes, just as the latest new cell phone of the year is the rage. All your friends have it, so you have to also.

The translation Apps between English and Thai do a pretty bad job, IMHO. As I can read Thai as well, I do know this....

Currently in Pattaya but figured this is more of a general area question. I've installed Line and WeChat to contact girls but have some questions.

Line doesn't seem to have an English-Thai translation service. All I could find was a dictionary, but it only does word by word translation (you have to look each one up) so is kinda useless for me. Girl I met sent me some weird stickers and I don't know what they mean.

Haven't used WeChat yet, but seems to be mostly used for finding FL girls by using the find people nearby function? I've filtered for girls only, but still seem to see dudes in the results. Some girls seem to openly advertise, for others not so clear. In any case, I'm a bit afraid to try as don't feel like the pictures available are enough to go by.

Just installed the English Thai translation app by GK apps so will give that a try tonight. I guess I'll have to get the girl to install it if she already doesn't have it.

The translation Apps between English and Thai do a pretty bad job, IMHO. As I can read Thai as well, I do know this. Translate between English and German as an example, is much better. So if you translate your message from English to Thai script before you send it, you could be saying either nonsense, or something different to what you intended. If she sends you Thai script, you can try translating it, but again, risk of wrong translation and misunderstanding is high. Thai language leaves out a lot of assumed words, so resulting English is not likely to make a good sentence at all.

I recommend to ask the girl to send English messages to you, still a risk of misunderstanding, but if she does not, then maybe best to forget it. Even though I can read Thai, most of my LINE girls, still send me English messages unless they are in a "Thai" mood. I do have one or two exceptions who really do not speak English at all (or don't wish too. LOL including my GF). However maybe you should be avoiding this type of girls.

Yes. Nice ROC airline with pretty flight attendants. Better than the PRC ones. Not the latest equipment but it is nice and lower priced and clean. Most flights require a TPE hub transit.

I flew from IAH to BKK via TPE last fall. It was a decent, airline or at least better than most. I found it a bit uncomfortable because the flight was full. But, the price was right. TPE is their hub and they seem to be the dominant airline. BTW, the TPE Taoyuan airport is really nice and the duty free liquor is a bargain! I bought a fifth of Chivas for $14 US but for people who like the single malt Scotch you have a good selection.

I recently priced a flight from IAH to MNL and found it was very reasonable. But, when I priced the same flight just to TPE is was substantially higher! One of the odd airfare paradoxes where a longer connecting flight is much cheaper. I've seen that happen in the US, too.

Thai / English translation technology is garbage. It's not like german to english or whatever. Don't worry about it. They speak English if they are looking to provide a good time for money. Easily enough English to facilitate the meeting.
