I am a True Fitness VIP "Black Card" Member and only pay 900 thb per month (ok, it's part of a Contract plan) but as I live in Bangkok, no sweat.

For those who are visiting, pick a hotel or service apartment that has a Gym.

So I had a look at some gyms.

True Fitness. 5000 / month without a contract.

Aspire. 5900. Crappiest of the lot and the most expensive.

Fitness First Terminal 21. No short term contracts. 5 months minimum.

And the winner is:

Fitness First Landmark Hotel (4th floor) : 3100 per month when you pay per month. You have to sign a contract and give them your credit card digits but you can cancel at any time.

If you know something better, speak out.

Crazy prices. Try calling the Fitness First at Central Plaza Rama 9, the girl quoted me 2K per month with no contract, just month to month. Interestingly enough, when my GF went there to check on prices, they quoted her a higher price, so I don't know where they pull these figures from, I guess out their ass? (BTW- you can use all the Fitness First except for premium branches and I think there's only 1 or 2 of those types)

OTOH, they could be trying to capitalize on members fleeing from the California Wow fiasco.

What the fuck. Were they serious when they told you those prices or were they laughing? I don't know gyms in the US that cost that much. At Tony's in Pattaya a lifetime membership is only 24000 and you get to use all their locations.

And Tony's on Walking Street charges just 120 Baht per visit. Which is perfect for fellows like me that are only here for a month or so.

Would it have A / C?

Is there a gym that allows month-by-month payments in BKK? Most try to get your credit card number and charge you for one year. That doesn't work for non permanent residents.

Satyr, a friend has done it, it costs him 25000, I don't know if he had to pay more every 3 months. But it worked, he could stay here for a year, no problem.

I've read a few articles about this and checked a couple of the Thai language schools offering this but haven't talked with anyone who's tried it. One Schools website mentioned that in addition to the 20K you also have to pay 2K every 3 months to the Thai embassy and 1, 900 to immigration every 3 months, in baht of course. Anyone gone this route? How did it work out?

Researching this, I've found some for 12, 000 baht and one school offers the 1 year visa for as little as 9000 baht!

If you are flying west do a layover in Hong Kong and buy your shit there. Much cheaper since all of it comes from China anyway.

You don't need to come to BKK to purchase them. You can do that from your home, but leave them there unless you want them for a lady or two. This is "the living flesh market". Just breath deeply and you will find.
